To all of the PS3 fans who swore that the only reason the XBOX was outselling the PS3 was the fact that it was "cheaper". What do you say now? If its a better value why are more people still buying the XBOX after the PS3 price cut? I'm aware of the $199 xbox model, but as Gamasutra recently pointed out, the xbox is outselling the Ps3 at a higher average price in the US right now. Whats going on?

the US isn't the world, in japan the xbox is almost non existent and in Europe I believe the ps3 is out selling the 360, so you really can't claim ownage here.

Not really news worthy, everyone knows this. It's being outsold because everyone and their mates have an xbox and don't want to go spending $300 on another system that might not be as good as the xbox or their mates might not have.

Not trying to "claim ownage". I'm aware of Japan, but this thread is about the US. Infact Ispecifically put US in the title to avoid this "rest of the world" argument. There were PS3 fans who specifically stated that here in the United States (Not Greece or Poland or Mars) the only reason that the xbox was winning was because it was cheaper. Now the PS3 is cheaper and it still is being outsold. My question is why? As for Europe im tired of all these claims that PS3 is outselling in those territories. There is no trackingmechanism for those regions. If there is show me the proof.

US is the biggest market and one of the few we get reliable hardware figures for - so let's look at what we do know rather than sit here and assume things. Also believe the 360 is a better seller here in the UK (another massive market).

Yes its a US corporation. It is now, and it was back then, when the original xbox was being trounced by the PS2 on a monthly basis. How is that relevant?

You brought up the issue of sales, in America... Sales from a US corporation in relation to a Japanese Corporation and you're asking why it's relevant????

And the Xbox 360 has been outselling the Wii for a while now in North America; marketing is key here. It's not always about who has the lower price, but more over who has the more attractive offering. And Microsoft has been extremely effective in their marketing.

Well you can pick up a 160GB PS3 with FIfa 12 and LBP 2 for £199 at Sainsburys in the UK. They have a 250GB 360 with Fifa 12 and Forza 4 for the same price as well.

Considering the Wii sales this gen and PS2 sales last gen I do not think it is relevant that the 360 is made by a American business and the PS3 is not.

I do find it comical. To be fair, USA seems to prefer the Xbox, and its only fair as the biased consumer base of Japan has ignored the 360 which offered them more and better games for about 2 years as the PS3 developed a library.

I say to you again that it was a US corporation last Gen when the PS2 (a japanese corporation) was trouncing them on a monthly basis here is the US. How is this relevant to sales? Are you really trying to play the Nationalism card?? In a country where the Playstation Brand was the front runner for two generations? All of a sudden Americans woke up and heard some rally cry to buy US only game machines as apposed to Japanese?? I dont believe that and quite frankly neither do you. So now its not price, its that MS is a US company.........amazing

also 360's are like 200 bucks brand new, so thats still cheaper than a PS3, It will obviously still outsell it lol. The Wii cost as much as a family KFC meal.

No matter what Sony does, I just think North America is Microsoft's palace. It will continue to be that way because more people in America would much rather be asscioated with Xbox than Playstation.

Sony has put out a ton of great games catered for a North American audience and even that can't change much. I don't see things changing next gen either. But Sony owns Europe and Japan now, which is why the PS3 is outselling the 360 worldwide.

The only reason people buy more 360's is because they have to. If you buy one you are more than likely going to buy 4 more to stock you shelf. So when the first one gets a red ring of death, you have more in reserve.

Millions of consumers are not going to just up and buy a second console, especially when the issue is widespread. The red ring of death is a thing of the past, MS increqsed the warranty to 3 years and kept making revisions to the hardware until the problem was solved. Ms stepped up to the plate in 2007 and did what most companies would never do, they said " sorry, we f***** up, we are going to extend the warrantee and fix the problem we created.) Sony never did this with any of their consoles, thus I have a respect for MS, even with some of their questionable actions. My PS1, PS2, and my roomate's PS3 had disc drive errors/YLoD What did Sony do? Nothing. They said, sure, we'll fix the problem we made, for $125. They did the same thing with my TV in 2003, thus I will never buy Sony products.

BTW, can you link us to a chart reavealing that premium 360 (300 dollar one) is outselling the ps3?

The 360 has a $200 model so it still "looks" cheaper. Also if you look at what has happened with the Wii and how it sells only a fraction of what it used to, it's not impossible to think that 360 has stolen more marketshare from Nintendo then they have Sony. Still PS3 sales have improved. I have a feeling that if Sony hadn't lost millions on the PSN hack the PS3 would be $200 right now.

M$ didn't extend the warranty out of pity you know, they were forced to do it by the law if not they had to remove their product off the market. To make things worseMS knew about the defects of the console since day one and they went on with the launch anyway and then hey tried to deny it (and this is the company you respect?).It doesn't matter how much you cry there's hasn't been an electronic equipment with such a high failure rate ever and you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting a company like that. I think this pretty much shows your bias...You can prefer the Xbox because of its game and online component but the RRoD fiasco has no advocacy.

http://www.vgchartz.com/ When you look at these worldwide hardware totals, the difference is really insignificant, it's only a mere 3 million that 360 has over PS3 in worldwide hardware sales. Okay so 360's selling more in the U.S. not because it's a better console, but because they got that original years head start to the market, and people seem to prefer Xbox Live for whatever reason. As for me i prefer the PS3, it is the more powerful of the 2 systems, and it has the better exclusives, without having to pay to play online, not to mention the huge capacity blu-ray discs that are near impossible to scratch. So when you weigh all those pro's and con's i think the PS3 wins hands down.

I understand. Im not defending MS for the Rrod, im just stating that they fixed their problem. MS might have released the console knowing that it would be faulty but they had to get it out early to bring Sony down. I just hate Sony customer support with a passion due to the fact that they have sold me faulty hardware 3 times and expected me to pay for it.

If the reason is the Kinect then Sony should come up with something that has move-ment controls that can compete.

im srry but im not going assume or judge all of japan because square says so

i agree, there a fine line between predjudice and patriotism, i just think the japanese are proud and have more faith in there own products, more power to them i say.

The Japanese are prejudiced against western... everything. Get some japanese friends... or any asian friends for that matter... then ask them what their parents think of you. It'll give you a hint.

But before anyone defends the Japanese about this it's not exactly a secret or something they are ashamed of. They're pretty open about it, and not all countries seperate prejudice and pride the same way we do.

According toVGChartz the PS3 has been the best selling console of 2011 by a long shot in terms of units sold Worldwide, as for the US, you are indeed correct the 360 is by far in the lead but it won't be enough to catch it up to the PS3, I'm afraid.

Microsoft knows how to manipulate the American public. Its not like most are researching what they are buying. They are looking for that one or two games they want to play. Why do you think MS doesn;t bother developing a lot of exclusives? They want the few big hits that'll be popular and sell the consoles to the simple minder buyers across the world (paticularly prevelant in the US).
