Valve doesn't do PS3. The company's co-founder Gabe Newell isn't a fan, and hasn't been afraid to say so. But Valve's Doug Lombardi has told CVG today that PS3 support could be on the cards as the platforms recent success has raised some eyebrows.

"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes," said Lombardi.

"So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they've got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously."

He went on: "They're in the race now, so we've got to re-evaluate that for what it is."

PC is still its primary format, reaffirmed Lombardi, explaining that hardware similarities makes 360 its second choice.

But what are the chances of Valve opening its arms to PS3 and showing it some Left 4 Dead love? "50-50 right now," said Lombardi.

"There's zero chance of it happening this year. It's something that's being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it's going to be a hit."

A 50 percent chance one of the most highly respected PC developers will work on PS3? We'll take those odds.

any dev would be foolish to not consider a console which is gaining ground.

which is why square enix chose to support xbox360 regardless of the rumours of why ppl claim the reason behind it

360 is loosing ground to Nintendo and Sony.

But this ain't about Square so please stop derailing the thread.

I really hope Valve starts supporting PS3 :P no more ports from an EA dev.

no system is loosing ground, each system is just selling more customers and more people have been finally buying all system, and as it seems they all are pretty much equal in sales except the wii being far ahead.

From a buisness stand point i feel that every developer needs to evaluate their options. With the rising cost of game development these days, developers and publishes cant miss out on generating the most revenue by making the game multiplatform. We just saw Square do this with FF13, in hopes of taping into the western market.I think developers like Valve and Blizzard will follow suit. It only makes sence. I'm of course sorta stating the obvious here. It just seems folish for a developer to support less than what they could be supporting. Just look at EA...

This really is the gen of the multiplat. That is why I can't understand why 360 owners would want a PS3, or PS3 owners would want a 360. Imo, neither consoles exclusives warrant buying other, if you already own either one.
