What the heck I wasnt expecting an update tonight, anyone have a clue what it is?

lol i do and its the truth not every 10 minutes but damn the ps3 has more updates then the 360, and wii combined they are doing much better but it used to be an update pretty much once or twice a month, and it was usually pittling updates security fixes and fixes for stuff they screwed up in the last update.

Very true. I got my hands on a PS3 today. It's the 40 gig version and to be honest I'm really disappointed with it. Downloads take hours. I signed on tonight and it wanted to do that update. Also The browser works but it's a piece of junk due to the 256 mb of ram that's dedicated to it. It pops up all the time with a memory issue. I'm taking it back at-least by this time next week. After that I'm really thankful for my 360. I mean I spent 2 hours downloading the Uncharted demo and then I had to wait 10 minutes to install it. What the heck man???? What the crap is all that?? I mean comon I wanna play games not install them all day. Oh yeah if anyone thinks I'm a fake-boy then you can send me a message over PSN. Screen name is the same.

The updates aren't as bad as people say they are. Plus there hasn't been a major update for months now. People seriously complain about the craziest things :?

I remember when the 360 had the Fall update last year it was really slow and buggy for some people (some on my friends list too). Some gamers on Live even lost their information. Things like this happens to make the systsem perform better overall... so who cares.

Hmm... I don't know man. I'm not going to say I don't believe you, but to have to wait that long for a d/l you must have a slow connection. The only way d/l's are usually slow on PS3 and 360 is when a demo just releases.

As for the web browser... I'm sorry to hear that the memory exceeds everytime you use it. I hardly ever have that problem. Maybe you are opening too many windows at a time?

Why trade it back already? Play some games first. MGS 4 is just around the corner and multiplayer games like WarHawk and UT3 should keep you busy :). If you don't like the PS3 just because of the updates and some web browser issues then I guess you are being way too picky my friend.

Wow man, those are really awful reasons to return your ps3. Find the browser slow? Just use your computer. Find the demos long? Just wait for it to download and do something in the meantime, like watch TV. Your loss..youll regret it after the 08' exclusives are released.. :?

Yeah... it'll be like returning a 360 just before Bioshock, Mass Effect, Forza 2, and Halo 3 released last year. Not such a good idea if you want to have fun.

This year should be even bigger with MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, KZ2, HOME, MS2, and Tekken 6. ( I doubt FF13 and GT5 make it this year) If so then... *head explodes*

You are right, the PSN internet browser blows. I couldn't open ign and another website at the same time. So i leave the web browsing to my PC

This is the first update since December....times have changed.

There is something weird about downloading stuff on PS3 because sometimes it works fairly quick and sometimes it take hours to download 3% and it doesn't have a thing to do with the USER'S connection. I have seen this happen so don't say it doesn't.

I have had my PS3 for almost a year now and have never had a update take over about a half hour total including install. And that is over a wireless network with more than one or two PC's shareing the same network. Sometimes I will be surfing the net on a laptop on the same wireless network and never see any problems of any kind. I am using a DSL service that isn't the best or fastest service according to so many web sites.jimm895

probably some small firmware update making it harder for people to do illegal things with/on there ps3'slinkin_guy109

That would be pretty useless if you ask me, hackers will have ps3s with old firmware on them anyway. And once they get in, no matter what security Sony uses, they will get around it. The reason being, once hackers understand how the system works, no security can stop them.

Lol I do check my other posts in this thread. Every major console game normally comes with an update. SMG,Brawl,Halo.. not sure about ps3s though. I also put pics of my setup somewhere around here.

Apparently the update improves the stability of games online and offline.

At first I thought it was the PS3 wifi that was causing the lag with downloads, then I plugged the ethernet and I realize it wasn't the wifi at all, it really is that slow. So I wouldn't mind if Sony have updates every week, just to fix their ish and get it faster. They still have a lot to do. This is why I keep my PS3 away in a different room, so when I'm downloading something for it, I could enjoy playings games on the Wii and 360.

Umm, I can believe a demo taking a long time to download. I find PSN to be very erratic, sometimes taking over an hour to download a demo, to 20 minutes (this was for GT: HD). But 10 minutes to install? The longest a demo took for me to install was barely over two minutes.

Ill admit I have crappy DSL and it takes me a good 2 and a half hours to download something thats over 800MBs but my friend with Cable was able to download the DMC4 demo in like 15 minutes....

So maybe its just most of your guys connections.

This just in. Apparently the new update also now allows you to conduct PS2 installs onto your PS3 hard drive. What this means is, if you have a PS2 game that required a hard drive install, like Final Fantasy XI, you can now play it............

true...and yes i do own a PS3, my PSN ID is Merek, same as my Gamertag, feel free to msg me whenever.....though i dont own any games untill GT:5P comes out since i never enjoyed any PS3 game with the exception of Uncharted. back to the point, all last year after launch thats what the PS3 has been doing, getting updated here and there and taking so long to download and instal vs the updates and update times the 360 goes through...which is usualy twice a year and only takes a few seconds. it just seems like if your a hardcore PS3 fan...your gonna have to be pretty darn patient in a not so patient world (if you live in US)

my wireless connection to ps3 stays between 70%-85% is that good for multiplayer gaming? anyways so i just started my ps3, first it gave me DNS error -_- then after trying 3 times it worked -_-, so i get the update, download and install it, then i go to download lost planet demo, it reached 30% and i got disconnected again for some reason, i tried reconnecting, nope same DNS error, then i restarted ps3 and it worked lol man ps3 has some disconnection problems....i have media servers disabled...i think the disconnections are cause of the update
