So I have both a PS3 and a 360, both hooked up to the same router, and I have 10mbps internet. Recently my 360 gave me the RROD for the third time, so back for repair it goes. Off topic, my 360 has died 3 times in 18 months, and my PS3 has died twice in 12 months, so to me, they both break down about the same.

Back to my topic, because I am without my 360, which is what I have COD WaW on, and it is the game I play the most, I rented COD WaW on my blockbuster pass for the PS3 to play until my 360 gets repaired or replaced.

Now after playing COD WaW on the 360 since it was released, and now playing it on the PS3, I have noticed online with the PS3 is really bad compared to the 360 online.

With the 360 online, I maybe have lag issues or games dropping because it says no acceptable host found about once every couple weeks, so very rarly. However, on the PS3, COD WaW cannot keep a decent connection ever. On the PS3, the online games are almost always laggy, and at least a half dozen times an hour, the game lobbies close due to no acceptable host.

There is really no comparison for COD WaW online between the 360 and PS3 as the PS3 version online is almost un-playable.

This got me wondering what other games on both the 360 and PS3 are like this. Since I am without my 360 for a couple weeks, I rented some other games I have on the 360 for the PS3, such as GTA IV, COD Modern Warfare, and Fracture to name few.

What I have experienced with the PS3 is, online is really bad compared to the 360.

I actually find this kind of odd because the PS3 does fine with Socom and Warhawk, but those both run off Sony servers, so I guess that makes a differnce.

Anyway, if it is a third party game, I will stay away from it on the PS3 becasue chances are the online portion will be almost worthless. First party Sony games seem to work perfect, but for all other games, I gotta go with the 360 for the best online gaming.

I wanted to see if anyone has played the same game on a 360 and a PS3 and see if anyone else has noticed the same thing, or if its maybe just me.

not to mention cross game chat, cross game invites, standard headsets bundled with 360, custom soundtracks............

This wont go over well. System Wars is at least 60% cows. Truth hurts but they dont want to hear that the competition has a better feature then theirs.

Im not sure about everything you said (or where you were going with it lol) but ive had similar experiences with the online. First party games tend to excel online mostly because of dedicated servers, but the vast majority of 3rd parties can afford to create and maintain the online components. Thats one thing MS got right with LIVE, MS handles EVERYTHING online related so the devs dont have to. This is also why multiple multiplat games have more modes on 360 (GTA4, Team Fortress 2) and some are missing online altogether (virtua fighter) its almost no cost to the dev to make an online component for 360 as opposed to PSN, which is also why alot of XBLA titles, and Community games have multiplayer. Not saying i dont like PSN, because it serves its purpose to let you play online, but the little features that is behind XBL that most dont notice, make it superior.

Honestly, I lag or drop out a match maybe...once every 2 days on CoD4 on PSN. I think that's very acceptable don't you?

+, all I'm gonna be playing till CoD:MW2 is Killzone 2, which has dedicated servers, which means ZERO lag. How's ZERO lag vs some lag, and the ZERO lag is free?

We don't even pay for PSN, yet Sony still puts out dedicated servers for it's first party games. How come Microsoft can't do this for their games when their customers are even paying just to play vs other people? Doesn't that sound ridiculous to you? Couple this with the high failure rate, I just don't see Microsoft as a respectable company. They don't seem to care about quality, just about sales.

I noticed the same thing with PES 2009 on PS3, though the game is not so good on both systems, I needed to create a Konami account and every game had noticeable lag. Whereas on 360 is was more stable.

I don't think anyone can say PSN is better the X-Box Live because it's simply not true but to some like myself it's not worth $50.

alot of people here will agree with you, but im sure developers and XNA game creators love it, myself included. To appreciate it, and to understand why people pay, you have to know what goes into online development on both platforms. with PSN, the devs pay for everything to make online components, from leader boards, to friends lists, trophies, in-game music, and all that stuff. That costs money and dev time. With XBL, you just plug into the system MS has created AND maintains on their end, devs dont have to worry about it. Everything on XBL is always connected, no matter what you are doing, or what game you are playing. Its not like that with PSN, and thats one of my gripes with it.

For me its PSN that wins. Sure XBL has more features, but what matters the most to me is the dedicated servers Sony has for all first party/Sony Published games. And luckily, the games that Sony makes/ publishes usually turn out to be the best on the system :D

You know I do admit that I wish PSN had the instent invite and Party chat, but to be honest thats all that makes XBL "better". At the end of the day I jsut want to play my games online with the PSN I can do that for free. I find it silly I have to pay extra to play online after I just bought a 60 doller game. XBL has some nice features, but not 50 bucks worth.

I've played my games online on the PS3 and World a War is my favorite, but i've had the most problems with it. It's only that game though, and it doesn't seem worth it to me to pay for Online just to play that ONE game.

Pretty much. I'd say XBL had a fair amount of important advantages when the PS3 first launched, but they have nearly all gradually been nullified. Once PSN gets cross game voice chat/invites, that's Live's last major advantage down the toilet. But hopefully it'll push MS to bring more improvements to the service.

Well it was great hearing YOUR experiences! Now, let's look at mine: About a third of the Halo 3 online games I have played have either failed or been almost unplayable due to lag. Several other games I have played on the 360 are completely ruined because of lag. I have experienced lag on the PS3 ONCE. Now, with our different experiences with lag in comparison, how do you decide which one is better? You cannot because it depends on your internet connection. The 360 I use has a bad internet connection so it is terrible for playing online. The PS3 I have is has a stronger signal strength, and is therefore better (for me) when it comes to playing online. Because if you have lag, it is your fault. It's your own internet connection. So we have to compare everything else about both systems together to decide which one is better. Live's main argument imo is the cross game invites, the private cross game chatting, and generally being able to interact with someone whenever you are doing anything. For a little less than 50 bucks a year. PSN does not have cross game interaction, but it is free. They both have a friends system, both have message sending to people you have met online. I could try to fit Playstation Home into this argument, but I can't really see how. It a lame MMO made ONLY for meeting other people. If you intend to go there for any other reason, you will be disappointed. Both systems have online stores. Now this is the main reason why, if I ever get a 360, I will not use the online store. Microsoft has implemented an absolute SCAM to gain money from their online store. The Microsoft points system works like this: Suppose you have no points and you want to buy something. Instead of buying the exact amount of points you need for that item, or charging a card directly, you have to buy points in bulk. Imagine havein to spend money on 50 points when you only need 10. I don't know the exact amounts of buying points, but this is what happens. Couple this with an monthly fee, and you are seriously shelling out money. However, I have HEARD that the Xbox online store has more content than the PSN store. As far I know, this applies only to demos. Even with just the demos, PSN's selection pales in compaison. Both Consoles have their extremely pooplur games meant just for great online gaming. So in the end, there is no winner. Live and PSN's flaws even each other out to make an online experience that can only be decided upon based on what you want. Live is not better than PSN, PSN is not better than Live. If you like one more than the other, great. It is not better, it simply suits you better. Lag is not a viable argument, because if you get it, it's your own fault. So please, stop arguing and making false points. They are both bad and good in there own ways, it just depends on which one you want. That is my two cents. Goodbye.

XBL is worth every penny of the $30/yr I pay. :) Yes, it's easy to find the $30/yr deal since both Amazon and Best Buy runs those specials every once in a while (like 2x or 3x a year).

PSN is fine and it works, but XBL is just much more streamlined. More people on XBL use their mics. The Party System on XBL is amazing and makes jumping from game to game with friends (without ever being disconnected) so easy. I also love having Custom Soundtracks for every game I play online.

Oh and I forgot about Netflix on XBL. Awesome service as well. I use it at least 4x a week.

Ive never noticed a difference in online (cable) with exception of some guy from Europe or Asia trying to host a game.

Do people honestly believe that Live is some sort of separate "net" from the rest of the Internet?

If anything, Live might have different local host preference settings then PSN but there is no magic juice being funneled into your Internet connection.

erm, third=party games like MGS4 (Konami) and LBP (Media Molecule) don't lag at all. Konami's servers are awesome. very fluid transitions and no lag whatsoever. it's not about psn or xbl, it's about the companies' servers. when nba 2k9 was down (like on its first 3 months wtf), both xbl and psn connectivity tothe game are in the dump. like 6 feet under, can't even load rosters. what i'm saying is, it doesn't matter if you're on xbl or psn, because it all comes down to what servers perform the best. Gears of war 2 still lags as hell, my friend said to me. not about being on xbl or psn.

Because if you have lag, it is your fault. It's your own internet connection.

I'm curious how you see it as my fault my PS3 has lag on some games. My 360 and my PS3 sit right next to eachother, and they are both ethernet wired into the same router. They are both on the same thing the same way.

So your saying if both systems are ethernet wired into the same router, and the 360 has less lag, the PS3 has more lag, its the internet connection? Not sure how that makes sense.

That makes alot off sense, the PS3 costs $400 out of box and the XBOX 360 costs $200 out of the box. So the PS3 is obviously 2X better.

It isn't just how fast your connection is. It also has to do with the servers you're connected to. If you have a super fast download rate, it doesn't mean you can download at that max speed if the site doesn't allow a download of that speed. It isn't just your connection, it's also the amount of servers and the traffic on the other end

I haven't had many issues with PSN and free is good, but I do think XBL is better. If you have a lot of friends, the party chat is the best, really helps to play as a team. Playing your music with the in game soundeffects is great too. $50 really isn't an issue with my cashflow, so to me it doesn't really bother me a whole lot. Both do the trick fine, PSN just needs a few more features, though I love that the new update allows PS3 to play DIVX, bye bye crappy divx player!

One better feature? Have you tried XBOX Live? I'm sorry, but as an owner of both consoles there's no question XBOX Live much better than PSN. I like the fact that it's free, but you can't escape the fact that XBOX Live is better. You'd be lying to yourself otherwise.

I've played plenty of games on my PS3 that I have on my 360 due to my GF's brother having the titles I own on the XBOX 360, on his PS3. Call of duty 4, GTA IV, And a few others are so much better on XBOX Live it's not even funny. There's alot more features as well, but i rather not argue with a bunch of biast PS3 fans.

Like I said, I like the fact that it is free, but you can't escape the fact that XBOX Live is better.

Oh and I forgot about Netflix on XBL. Awesome service as well. I use it at least 4x a week.

I wish the Netflix feature was available in the UK :(
