it cost Sony $840 to make a PS3 and they sell it for $600
it cost MS $323 to make an Elite X360 and they sell it for $480
it cost Nintendo $200 to make a Wii and they sell it for $200.
yet they call us cows.Â

This is my main reason why i admire and respect sony. However MS milks lemmings and they completely deny it and after all the 360 problems are way higher than the Wii + Ps3 problems combined together. And the milkage goes on with the Elite, XBL ...etc
But still lemmings deny that but in the END the people with most benefits are Cows they get something that costs 840$ for only 600$
The ps3's 60GB HDD costs 54$,
the 360's 120HDD costs 43$ ???????

and MS charges lemmings $180 for it.Â
No matter how you spin it, the PS3 still costs $600, an unsustainable pricepoint which many are people are not incline to even consider it let alone purchase it. Sony would have keep its iron grip on the market if it was just $200 cheaper. They should have bit the bullet, it would have saved them in the end.Ultimas_Bladeyou talk as if this generation is already over...

I can see what you're saying, but I mean the PS3 would be stomping the living **** out of the 360 and possibly the Wii in sales if they had done that one thing.
I do believe that site messed up. The Elite does not retail for $399, the Premium does.InsaneBasura
just a typo.Â

ORLY? I think the credibility takes a hit if they can't get one of the most funadamental parts of the article right (ie the flipping cost!!!). Besides MS, Nintendo and Sony are businesses. Wait for it ... they are supposed to make a profit!!! The crazy Ken business model doesn't work and thats why he got fired.

This source is so wrong... According to this atricle the price to make a ps3Â HAS INCREASED.
$60 chasis? WTF (wasn't it $20 in the last article)
$54 for a 60 gig HDD and $43 for a 120 gig HDD??? why does the 60 gig cost way more, and why is it more expensive then the cost breakdown of when the ps3 launched.
$150 for "OTHER COMPONENTS".... WHAT OTHER COMPONENTS? they already listed everything. I cannot name a single thing they forgot... its not like adding the ps2 chip is still an expense.
And apparently ps3's are assembled by rich white guys whereas the 360 is made by starving people in a 3rd world country cause the ps3 costs 7 times as much to put together for some reason.
I SERIOUSLY doubt the credibility of this article, especially since there was already a cost breakdown of the ps3 and it differs GREATLY from this one.
Oh no... people are paying more for something than it costs to produce....... that never happens anywhere else in the real world.
The other PS3 cost break down was the same (total) before. The 360 numbers have changed and I don't think M$ is making money off of the 360 yet. This source is so wrong... According to this atricle the price to make a ps3Â HAS INCREASED.

The thing about really expensive tech is that it comes down in price lots faster than medium range to low range tech. That's why expect a PS3 price drop before the 360 price drop IMO.
I really don't care but if it were Sony, the haters would've blown this thread up to 300 post right now and that's a fact.:(Oh no... people are paying more for something than it costs to produce....... that never happens anywhere else in the real world.

To be honest I would like to know a lot more about how they came up with those figures.cakeorrdeathAccording to one of the articles I read, most of the the figures are based on a survey of wholesalers and the prices for their components (based on business-standard bulk purchases). Now, these prices may be subject to change--but likely only for the lower since Sony can streamline its manufacturing process and Microsoft (as owner in toto of the 360 IP) can shop around for cheaper providers, foundries, etc.
That's not really true, especially for really new technology like BluRay. It took about five years for DVD to really take off, and it had no real competition. The big factors are mainstream acceptance and economies of scale. BluRay has yet to reach either milestone. Meanwhile, many of the 360's components are already at the commodity level (sorta like genericized drugs), enabling Microsoft to shop around for cheaper prices. The thing about really expensive tech is that it comes down in price lots faster than medium range to low range tech. That's why expect a PS3 price drop before the 360 price drop IMO.

All the more reason fanboys should HOPE that these companies are still around next generation, and at each others throats. If it wasn't for competition people would be paying above the cost of each console and the companies wouldn't be worrying about penetrating living rooms around the world.
If MS's current and past behavior are any indication, if they are the only console company around(As Nintendo isn't really competing on the same field), they will corner the market just as they have in the PC world, which is plain ugly, and why MS makes so much money to begin with. There's nothing worse than monopolistic behavior, I don't care what your favorite console is, it's bad bad bad for the consumer.
Here's to hoping there's steep competition, otherwise, you all better invest in vaseline.........
360 has been out for about 18 months. It get to a point where eventually a product out for awhile starts to see a profit. This is that point for it to be doing so. PS3 has been out for 6 months, so it isn't going to be out of the red for awhile. This is how the market works, geez the fanboys are the biggest spinners of all time. Twist the truth wont ya.
