I started a thread but was moderated for trying to annoy. I honestly didn't. But oh well. Anyways, we never settled on whether Xbox 360 or PS3 dev kits (each with much more RAM than the retail versions) can produce better graphics than their retail siblings. We know that more RAM means more textures, geometry, (particle effects?), etc. Therefore,I think that dev kits can lead to better graphics performance because a game with more RAM can have more graphical bells and whistles. We know developers always try make their game look better than the final versions--bullshots, anyone? Well, if developers use bullshots, wouldn't it makes sense that they would also use the superior dev kits to demo their games in front of journalists? So why don't game journalists ever mention whether a game is demoed on a dev kit or on a retail version? HOW CAN ANYONE HYPE A GAME FOR ITS GRAPHICS IF THEY AREN'T SURE IF THE GAME IS DEMOED ON A DEV KIT OR ON A RETAIL VERSION? So after Xbox 360's failures (Los Planet 2, Alan Wake, Halo Reach) to meet the early graphical hype, I think it's reasonable to think that RAGE might not meet the hype as well. What if whatever has been shown of RAGE all come from assets currently used on the dev kits? And if dev kits are the main reason for RAGE's graphical performance, then how can there be any hope that an Xbox 360 game can match the PS3's best (Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, God of War 3)?

i still dont understand why you think a devkit is the reason for RAGE's graphical performance. It uses megatextures, extra ram in the devkit wont make any difference. And as for the geometry i highly doubt that any self respecting developer is going to make entirely new models apart from the retail build just to demo to some people, they could be using that time to say... making the actual game better.

Well, RAGE doesn't just use megatextures. It also has particle effects, moving vehicles and characters, etc., all which would benefit from the extra RAM.

particle effects is plausible, but for the most part in dev cycles the particle effects get better that what is originally seen not worse. And more detailed vehicles and characters rely more on the gfx than the RAM.

I guess GT5 is going to flop in the graphics department, then. Must have been running on a devkit.

I tink Mr.TC that uhhh..... Mr. Raymundo is trying to say these topics are just annoying to even think about any more. Remember when I told you that back in the day both systems were a mystery? or did you not read what I sent you in the message? Any one else ready for a new console yet?

How about all the physics that make a game look/runs smoothly? I think I am on to something. Dev kits are the main reason why journalists hype a game's graphics too soon. It boggles my mind how most people in the industry know about dev kits. But when journalists write about early "eye-on" impressions of a game, they never make the effort to see if the game is run on a dev kit or on an actual console. I stand by my belief that developers have been fooling us all along. Not to be mean, but every Xbox 360 game hyped to match the PS3 best always ended in failure. It's because the people who hype the graphics don't think about the dev kits.
