I'd like to state all of the pros and cons for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

I'll start with the PS3

Pros:

1.Beats 360 in month-by-month sales

2.Free wireless, built-in Blu-ray, and free online play via the PlayStation Network

3.internet broswer

4.Blu-ray won the format war

5.ALL games are on Blu-ray discs (that's a whopping 50 Gigs per disc!), allowing great games to be born!

6.VERY low failure rate

7.Great connectivity between the PS3, the PSP, and the computer

8.Small, light controllers

9.Sixaxis wireless controller for certain games

10.PS3 is quite adaptable to user needs .

11.Cheaper upgrades too .

Cons:

1.Few great games, but plenty of great games coming soon

2.Not as many people on the PSN compared to XBL

3.Demos, add-ons, and such are on the PSN after the XBL Marketplace

4.Some (very few) PS3s have disc drive problems that don't read the discs properly or will not accept the discs at all

5.No rumble controllers (but seriously it's not that important); also, the rumble controllers have been announced

6. most of games data is needed to be stored on the pS3 hardrive

7.Marketplace is way more interesting than PS3, although the gap gets smaller

Now for the Xbox 360

Pros:

1.XBL has many people and a great connection

2.You can own noobs online while listening to your favorite music!

3.Beats PS3 in overall sales due to the fact that it was released over a year before the PS3

4.Great games

5.Demos, add-ons, and such are on the XBL Marketplace before the PS3

6.Rumble in controllers

Cons:

1.WAY too many callbacks and problems (RRoD, destroying of discs, etc.)

2.If you bought everything to as closely match the features of the PS3 it'd cost almost the price of the sytem itself (HD DVD drive, wireless hook-up, XBL payments) - these things add up!

3.No Internet browser

4.HD DVD lost the format war

5.All games are on regular DVD discs (a measly 8.5 GB of memory), which greatly limits games

6.WAY too high of a failure rate - about 17%, in fact

7.Large, heavy, roaring jet engine fans!

------------------------------------------------------------------

I myself am a PlayStation owner and lover, and was trying not to be biased. I gave facts and only facts.

Give me your opinion please, i'll count the votes later.

Thank you

Tapty

Had my PS3 for a year now and its a great console... Lately got a 360 too and i have to admit its a good console too... I think in the end its all about games, at the moment Xbox 360 has a better library but PS3 is catching up with great multiplats and some interesting upcoming titles being released later this year / early 2009...

This thread isn't unbiased, it's pretty clearly swayed to the PS3 side.

I think for traditional gamers, the 360 is the best choice atm. I personally am not interested in most of the titles so I'd go with PS3.

Considering you stated that the 360's DVD media only holds 5 GB when it actually holds 8.5 GB (it's dual layer DVDs), you didn't try nearly hard enough.

Everything on SW gets really overhyped followed by extreme bashing. I think enough of that would make anyone be dissapointed by games they would otherwise think were good.

First off, i love gaming.

Wanted a 360 in the beggining.

Then a wii.

Then a 360 again.

Then a wii.

Until finally a ps3.

I got my ps3. I think its great!

Online is free, i can watch blu ray dvd and recently plug my sony ericsson into my ps3 via usb and transfered songs between the two.

However, the ps3 has not many great games. Thats when the 360 comes in. 360 boasts a range of games and great online play even though u have to pay.

The biggest drawback is the red rings of death, which means you pay microsoft to fix it and that takes ages.

The ps3, is realiable, online is free ( exspect for game downloads) and has a built in blu ray player.

But, its the most exspensive console, has not many great games (but that should change towards the end of the year), and you need a HD tv to get the most out of it.

The 360, has a great selection of games, good online and is cheaper than an ps3.

The cons are online is roughly 50 pounds and is not very reliable thanks to the red rings of death. But apart from that its pretty good.

Im not taking sides but in my opinion its ps3 all the way.

But depending on what you want its 50 50 between the two.

In my somewhat try not to be bias view ...

Software (current) - PS3 45% 360 55% (AAA count)

Hardware - PS3 70% 360 30% (bluray gets PS3+ RROD gets

Online - PS3 50% 360 50% (360 has more content, but PSN is free)

Future software hype - PS3 65% 360 35% (MS likes to look year by year, Sony likes to project the future, both good and bad. We have to wait for Sony games yet at the same time I can't foresee anything good coming for 360 late 2009 and beyond unless something gets delayed)

to sum up really if you put 360 and PS3 side by side, 360 edges out in games and PS3 everything else. MS should really push their own 1st party exclusives and not trying to get games to be multiplats

Good of you to correct that mistake (DVD being 8.5 GB, not 5) but you still take the stance that this "greatly limits the games"?? So, you would subscribe that long, expansive, content rich games require blu ray media? That it is simply not possible on 360's DVD discs?

I'd like to state all of the pros and cons for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

I'll start with the PS3

Pros:

1.Beats 360 in month-by-month sales- how is this a pro??

2.Free wireless, built-in Blu-ray, and free online play via the PlayStation Network- Free wireless, i belive that is includsed in the price, and psn is free for a reason

3.internet broswer- A terrible one at that

4.Blu-ray won the format war- No blu-ray beat hddvd, DVD is winning the format war

5.ALL games are on Blu-ray discs (that's a whopping 50 Gigs per disc!), allowing great games to be born- only one game takes advantage of this , mgs4 , multiple disks are way better than 10 min installs, think final fantasy 7

6.VERY low failure rate- ok this is a pro , but iv had as many problems with my ps3 as i have with my 360 , non

7.Great connectivity between the PS3, the PSP, and the computer. PS3 and psp ok , but the 360 - computer is way way better than the ps3's connectivity with pc

8.Small, light controllers- How is this a pro?? the controllers are terrible , i had to buy a duelshock and it still feels too light and flimsy

9.Sixaxis wireless controller for certain game. so far iv seen one game make good use of it, folklore, apart from that its a gimmick

10.PS3 is quite adaptable to user needs . No more than the 360

11.Cheaper upgrades too .like? when my 360 controller battery dies i have to spend £9.99 on a new one, when my ps3 battery dies i have to spend £39.99 on a new pad

Cons:

1.Few great games, but plenty of great games coming soon- Like?? little big planet , and .....any with a realese date?

2.Not as many people on the PSN compared to XBL- True

3.Demos, add-ons, and such are on the PSN after the XBL Marketplace- or sometimes not at all

4.Some (very few) PS3s have disc drive problems that don't read the discs properly or will not accept the discs at all- mines terrible at dvds

5.No rumble controllers (but seriously it's not that important); also, the rumble controllers have been announce- there are rumble pads but not standard

6. most of games data is needed to be stored on the pS3 hardrive - true

7.Marketplace is way more interesting than PS3, although the gap gets smaller- after the next 360 update, there will be no more comparing the two

Now for the Xbox 360

Pros:

1.XBL has many people and a great connection

2.You can own noobs online while listening to your favorite music!

3.Beats PS3 in overall sales due to the fact that it was released over a year before the PS3

4.Great games

At the end of the day they are both game consoles. I bought my current gen system because I wanted to play games. I did not want to browse the internet, look at the weather and watch movies. I wanted to play games. So, far this gen,(and this looks to be the case in the future as well.) the 360 is the place to be for playing games. That is why I prefer 360 over PS3 this gen. Imo 360 has a far superior game library to the PS3.

I stopped taking your opinion seriously when you put 'better sales' in the pro's column. This a factor that shouldn't matter when deciding on a console.

Thank you

A good post, but its obvious you are biased towards the PS3, which is ok, but some of your point are off and/or wrong. I like your approach though, its the "if I dont say it I am not lying" type of view . Ok now onto the points you made that I disagree with: Under PS3 Pros: you mention controllers, adaptability and an internet browser. Those three points are subjective, the controller is not liked as much by many people as the 360 controller. Points number 10 and 11 under ps3 pros, what do those even mean? its like you ran out of cool stuffy to say about the ps3 because you love and decided to add some extra points to beef up its score. 360 is extremly easy to get into and can be personalized quite nicely and also the upgrades for ps3 are not cheaper than the 360, they are roughly equal. For the 360 pros you left out a TON, and a couple of them are just stupid. I mean, owning noobs online well listening to music...your just showing your bias towards the ps3. For both systems you mention sales. Honestly nobody here should care about sales...but many do. its really stupid, sales are not a pro or con of any console, they do not mean GAMES...which is what this is all about right? Merry XMAS ALL! Even if you dont celebrate Xmas, I hope you have a fantastic day! I will be busy drawing satanic circles in the snow.
