Resident Evil 5 (skip to 2.50 for gameplay)

LittleBigPlanet

Although this is probably just for demo purposes, it's interesting to see it in action. :)

RE5 so far looks a bit more like wii type controls with a normal controller. If this can be taken further, we'll have to see. It looks like it can work provided they incorporate it into a normal control scheme.

LittleBigPlanet looks very interesting and takes the gameplay further... but in the demo they use 2 people: one using the wand, one moving the character. I'm having a hard time imagining whether it'll work with a single player only with the type of puzzles that they showed off.

All in all, seems to be a step in the right direction, but they are going to need spend some time refining the controls.

What do you think?

DISCUSS!

Edit: forgot the mandatory "sorry if old" :P

I agree, for now it looks decent at best, but eventually i could see it work. But this is only if they don't cripple the ps3 control scheme in favor of the motion controls. it needs to be added on, not replace.

You can't hold a whole controller when playing on the Wii.

little fact in life, multi billion dollar companies steal. If not from each other, from no name companies. Nintendo has done it, microsoft definitely as and sony has as well. Thats business for you.

In this case, Microsoft and Sony saw that the motion thing works to get more money out of casuals. So you know what makes business sense? Do something similar, but don't get sued.

I think it sucks that you have to hold a Dual Shock in your left hand. I'd much rather use two wands, with the left one offering a thumbstick. That way, you could have twice the motion control fun! (Not to mention the potential for dual wielding guns in other action games!) I heard they may do this, and I want to see it in action, like the E3 demo with the sword and shield. THAT was awesome imo.

aint that the truth, companies dont 100% rip others off, often they are influenced by something but try to improve on it. N64 controller had just 1 thumb stick in the center, but it made it so it was hard to use the dpad if you needed it. the PS1 introduced the duels which is the norm today. technically the SEGA saturn used an analog stick before sony did which eventually inspired the dreamcast controller etc.

well the Wii remotes looked silly as heck when i first saw a video of it lol, but that caught on well...next thing ya knew families everywhere were shaking their hands all over the place and knocking their kids in the heads by mistake when swinging a virtual bat in wii sports and doing it with pride! of course i told my kid "wooooops! my bad!"

pretty sure this is still the prototype stage anyways, but who knows...

well im under the impression from most press sites about it that its a prototype, so perhaps they could eventually at least shrink the orb down a bit lol. i saw some early wii mote designs and they looked rather weird at first too...then when it was official its done, magically the thing looks reasonably normal...i'd hope Sony goes that same route.

I think I spoke about this in a similar thread when this announcement came out.. How the bloody hell will you use a controller & the wand at the same time.. It looks extremely cumbersome.. The only way this will work is if Sony releases a "nun-chuck-like" attatchment for the wand and then you're talking more $$$$.

Yeah my Wii remotes look sweet sitting in their docking station beside my Wii, but if I get these PS3 ones their going in the press out of sight I can't have them eye sore's beside my PS3

well the guy in the video is only using the left half of the regular controller, the analog for movement etc. i tested it out by holding the controller just in my left hand and i can easily use the stick, the d-pad, and the L1, L2 buttons with ease. i could see the controller in the left hand feeling heavy after a long while, but its cheaper for them to not develop a second controller to use in the left hand.

I could as well (as i have large hands) but I highly doubt this method will be adopted by the masses.. Especially when the wii offers a more comfortable solution. I could be thinking inside the box.. Maybe the great brains at Sony will dev games that won't require two controllers. But for games like RE5, I don't see this working well.

What is so bad about a sony wand? It would be used for sword and shield games I am all set. That tech demo was easily the best in which all the weapons he used with its physical properties was really amazing. It needs an analogue stick...

sony uses standard ways to control games such as analogs etc and are considered to be stealing nintendos ideas. Microsoft has the same stuff sony has from nintendos pads yet no one mentions them in the slightest.

very true. Just because we don't like it doesn't mean it's not popular. There are constantly people on there doing god knows what... And sony has admitted they were surprised that people were buying so much for their online spoace and avatar. Failure for us, success for sony
