I predict that Japan will be the saviour of the PS3 with the Xbox 360 selling a paltry 250k units in 14months- its the best chance for the PS3 to gain a huge lead on the X360.

the X360 will beat the PS3 in NA but the fight will be closer in Europe (Europeans are big Playstation fans)

They'll have to start selling more PS3s in Japan if that's to happen.

The point is Japan does not make a console winner. XBOX did literally nothing in Japan last gen and GC did admirably there. Except it didn't do as good everywhere else and XBOX sold more units worldwide.

Japan will make the PS3's thumping look a bit more respectable, but the x360 will lead in both USA/NA and Europe.

The PS3 will be lucky to sell 60million units this gen.

Remember, PS2 sales never took off until it hit the $200 price point. The PS3 may be lucky to hit $200 in mid-2009.

look at january numbers... the PS3 didnt even do much better than the 360, if it keeps this pace japan is definitely not enough to boost its overall sales over the 360

360 has WAY more games that appeal to the japanese people (comparing with ps3) wait till games, then ps3 sales will go up

No, the Wii is bigger, but it isn't in the 360/PS3 market. Honestly.

As a lemming, why are you even mentioning the Wii anyways?

let me put it this way
lets say the gaming market is a test.  20% of it's true/false, 50% is muliple choice, and the other 30% is essay.

Now durring the test you answer A for every single multiple choice.  You'll get some right, but your arrogance isn't going to give you a good grade.  You do perfect on the T/F portion and get all of them right.  Next is the essay portion which you decieded to wait until after lunch to start so we don't know how you did on that.  Now even if you ace the essay (unlikely) you're still sort of screwed.

Japans is important to the game market, but it's not the most dominant area.  Gaining Japan does not ensure victory, and loosing Japan does not ensure defeat (though it helps).  The sad thing is PS3 isn't even doing good in japan, it's just doing better than the 360.

Yes it is. Especially in Japan.

There will be plenty of people who will choose the Wii as there only next gen system.

What seems apparent now, isn't going to be the case in the following years. Just watch.

Nintendo realizes this, and don't consider themselves competition, they are "New Gen", and Nintendo is right.

Right now, it may look grim for the 360/PS3 market, but that will change in time.

I agree there will be much more multi system owners than in previous generations but there will still be a significant percentage of people happy with just the one system. Expecially in Japan, where graphics aren't seen as that important.

Well, I guess that's up to Nintendo's support. If they can keep the customers loyal, great..but looking at their division for N64 and GC, it tells me there are going to be droughts.

Then, if you look at the Wii's upcoming lineup, you can see the droughts already coming.

Heck, the biggest games for me are the Big 3, Mario Galaxy, Metriod, and SSBB...whenever those hit. Sure, they are porting Paper Mario over, etc...but they need to get A LOT more 3rd party support to keep people from looking over the fence at those Cheaper PS3's/360's when they are more affordable.

If they keep selling the support will come.

Japan is a small market for consoles now. America is much bigger of a market than Japan now and 360 has it locked down along with Wii.

The Japanese Market isn't big enough to sway the race like that. It is a huge player but not that huge.
