PS3 Will Have To Double 360 Sales For The Next Year To Pass It in ONE year.

They will have to sell Double what the 360 is selling for the next year to pass it in ONE year. Or, sell 1.5 times the 360 sales to pass it in TWO years. Not that far of a stretch, because thats how much the wii is selling. The PS3 has the most AAA titles comming out for it, as well as all the multiplats, and will soon pass the 360 in total AAA at gamerankings. Now that PS3 is in the mass market window, and with a christmas bundle for GT5, their momentum will be going strong. They have to do what they are doing right now, doing everything in their power to keep the PS3 slims current momentum where it is right now for the next year. and take as much marketshare from nintendo as possible. Also, during christmas their will be the Blu-ray push, from all the HDTVs being sold, and all the media attention being on PS3 right now everything points to "BUY a PS3 now". PS3 is quickly becoming the manditory console to own.

I'd say PS3 passes 360 in 3 years, maybe.

Well, its not the "mandatory console to own" considering theres another HD console with a bigger (and better according to critics) lineup out there. Just keep it like "another good option". And im sure PS3 wont sell 2x more than 360 and overtake it in a year!!! If i were you, i would be happy if the PS3 sold as much as the 360 this holliday.

I dont think Sony's goal is to pass the 360 in one year. I think more along the lines of 4-5 years from now when the 360 support drops from MS while Sony continues to support the PS3 and their next gen console.

I thought the gap was 8,000,000. Even if the PS3 outsold the 360 2 to 1 it would take about 2 years for the PS3 to catch up.

I really don't think it matters. The big mouthed Sony execs that made a debacle of the PS3 from the beginning, aka Kutaragi ( "Your gonna want to work 2 jobs to pay for this.") are now gone & others will spend the next few years cleaning this mess up. So, Sony needs the 360 sales to stop their trend of increasing every year while doubling their own sale. I'm feeling pretty safe in saying that's not going to happen. Even 15M would still take 4 years to cut the gap if the 360 sales stagnated at the current rate as that would only cut the gap by 2 million per year.

That's just it...no one knows...til Febuary, no one can make an accurate judgment on effects of PS3s price drop. Next year MS line up looks strong. and if they are still being outsold, by August of 2010 I'd bet money they'll be dropping the price of there consoles to $149.99 and $199.99 for the Arcade and the Elite, Also, it's not like MS didn't have any games this year...I believe Halo Wars outsold Killzone 2....

Doubtful. While I do think the new PS3 slim will outsell the 360 this year, however I don't think it will double Microsofts' sales. But Microsoft has sold so many 360s' at this point, that they can now sit back and collect mass $$ from Xbox Live and game royalties, even if they don't continue to sell well. That's what it is really about, collecting revenue from your console, and that's where I think Microsoft will continue to succeed. They already have enough of a installed base to continue to be a strong contender for the next couple of years to come, while the PS3 willcontinue its' upward trend, and will make it a really interesting console race, although the Wiihas a far lead.

...which it will be practically impossible but at least the PS3 won't end in a far distant 3rd place, and devs will continue to support it as well as the 1st party ones Son ps3 owners can rest happy lolGiancar
