PS3 Will OWN Next Gen!! (not this gen, but next gen) heres why..

I just thought of something. What if right now it might seem like Microsoft is winning, but lets say 5 or 6 years down the road when the PS3 is very well established and the true power of the cell and rsx is utilized, what if by that time it will be a better console even better than the next gen xbox. I mean seriously, lets think hypothetically. Most likely the next gen xbox will use HD-DVD for its main format, sony is already using Blu ray for its current format, just imagine in 5 or 6 years how great the PS3 games will be once devs finally crack the blu ray/ cell code! So that automatically puts sony at a 5 year head start of the next gen format with blu ray!! AND by that time the PS3 could be $200.00 cheaper which would put it at the same price as the next gen xbox. Now also imagine this.. In 5 or 6 years imagine how advanced "PShome" will be and how advanced the overall online will be! It also could be better than the next gen xbox online.

The bottom line is Everyone thinks sony did everything wrong this gen but in actuality they did everything right. They arent thinking about winning this Gen, they are thinking about winning NEXT GEN! I mean "PSHome" is the future for consoles, Its fully 3d virtual matchmaking system while xbox live isnt on par. Also with blu ray, in 5 or 6 years when the new xbox comes out, Blu-ray will be the mainstream format and everyone will have bluray by that time and ALSO PS3 games will be amazing because also by that time devs will know how to properly develop for the cell and utilize blu ray to its fullest potential. So Just something to think about, while Xbox might win this gen.. PS3 could very well take Next gen!!

In 5 or 6 years if PS3 has not found it's legs, it never will. And Sony is not going to sit buy while the competiton steals their costomers with new machines.

Seriously, building a failing console is never an advantage, digital distribution will be far dominate the next generation, there is no proof that yet-another "HD" storage format won't come along in the next three or four years, and destroying your brand name isn't the best way to convince people to buy your fourth console.

The only thing the PS3 has been doing is draining Sony's bank account, so that when the next generation rolls along, they won't have the same cash to put towards risky new technology. Microsoft is the one doing things right - they're making a profit on their consoles, they have a high attach rate, developers love them, and they're revising their warranty to deal with faulty launch hardware. I don't see how blowing it this gen helps Sony six years down the road *at all*

I mean seriously though, It makes sense. If MS uses HD-DVD as its main format for the next xbox, Bluray will already have a good 5 year headstart with format. I mean this cell processor is a very very advanced chip along with RSX, its just the devs dont know how to fully utilize it. For instance lets take God Of war 2 for example, do you honestly think if 8 years ago they showed God Of War 2 gameplay footage when the PS2 first came out, that people back then would think its possible?! Ofcourse not, Heck God of war 2 still looks amazing to me! Now lets say if in 5-6 years the PS3 is fully utilized just like the PS2 was for God of war 2, just imagine how great it will be. PLUS by that time in 5 or 6 years, the PS3 will be $400.00 while the next xbox might be $400.00 as well. and also Home will be very well advanced by that time and it will still be freeAhammer80

Yeah the PS3 is probably ahead of it's time, but what do you expect, that is like saying the original Xbox will be #1 this generation, yeah some games suport hd resolutions, and it did have a HD. However it's not the case the xbox is still in last the 360 came in and killed it. Your logic fails, becuse when the 360 successor is named all the other console manufacturers will follow suite and make a new console. Sony just put to much "new" technoligy in the system, and is now paying the price. Most console owners don't want bleading edge they want value.

I don't know if sony will win the HD format war, becuse it's not do well in (stand alone) player sales. only 30,000 of them, to HD-DVD's 227,000. Now the PS3 does have an effect in that war since so many PS3 owners are buying BluRay movies, becuse of the lack of games right now on the PS3. But I have a feeling that HD-DVD will make it to the magic 200.00 price point before the BluRay player does, and BlurRay isn't living upto the quality of the HD-DVD media anyways, since sony in it's boneheaded ignorance didn't sugest studios use the more advanced VC1 codec, on single layer BlurRay discs, instead they been using Mpeg 2.0 and have lost alot of quality compared to HD-DVD's, only now your seeing the studios coming around and mastering VC1 movies (can you guess who owns VC1? and who owns mpeg 2?) Hint M$ owns VC1, and Sony owns MPEG 2.

Now that Nintendo is much more secure in the Wiimote, they won't have to be safe by offering a cheap console.

While i agree it will be the only console on the market competiting with next gen, even the PS4 (see PS2), and MSoft will not have HD-DVD as its format, its losing the format war.....Oh and See Brian Hasting "10 Reasons why PS3 will win". Its funny how Xbox is in the lead but still trying to keep up witht the PS3 (hence elite 360), even M$ knows the PS3 is futureproof....PS3 will no doubt win this generation. The Wii fad will die out in 7 to 8months....360 will be left advantages that turns to disadvantages...Goku004

Your statements might have some fact to them if the PS3 launch had been about 1,000 times better than it was, like the PS1 and PS2 launches, but it wasn't, so all bets are off now.
