Sony just had a price cut and they're about to introduce another SKU with wifi and a 40GB HDD for another $100 less. Anything is possible and likely. This gen it's a messy battle.

well the news on gamespot was that they had to sell a branch of the company to aid its video games division
i wouldnt say sony is ringing in the dough with its gaming division right now

Even if MS has a price drop, don't expect anything major. $25 at the most. They already have the momentum going into the holidays and that will continue at the price point they have now meaning they will see a profit for Q3 and Q4 putting them pretty much in the black which is where they want to be. They have the gaming lineup and now 360 sales are sky rocketing. No need to change things until early 2008. Then MS will probably have a nice $50 price drop to try and continue to momentum from late 2007.

That is great and all, but the division that houses the PS3, PS2, PSP, etc lost around 2 billion last year and they expect to lose another billion or so for next year.

MS actually didn't have the first price drop for the 360 until 21 months of the console being on the market which is the longest run in console history with out a price drop (PS2 held the record at 19 months).

sales will definately pick up when the price goes to 399, but that won't put it down to mass appeal levels either. the ps2 was successful because it had the madden gta crowd. most of those guys still haven't bought a next gen console yet, although i'm willing to bet some of them just jumped on board with xbox with halo. there just isn't a clear winner right now. (besides Wii, but to me thats not the same market.)

Yep. Even though MS lost 1.8 billion last year on EDD or whatever that division is that houses the 360, they still netted 15 billion and had 51 billion in revenue which I believe is more than what Sony and Nintendo pulled in combined. They expect those numbers to go up next year (estimates I believe are 56 billion in revenue, 17 to 18 billion in net profit).

Cuz Microsoft isn't seeing profits anywhere else. The 360 is in a place in its lifecycle where it's SUPPOSED to start experiencing price cuts. The fact that the PS3 has already had one cut and is considering another is....PATHETIC. To spin it any other way is purely blind fanboyism. They're contemplating another cut because the Wii is kicking their butt in Japan and the 360 is kicking their butt everywhere else.

And no, the PS3 is NOT outselling the 360 anywhere in the world other than Japan. The 50K that the PS3 outsells the 360 in Japan doesn't come close to countering the fact that the 360 is outselling the PS3 in the US by 100K units, Europe by 50K units or more, Australia by 10K or more...

that won't happen by next Christmas, 360's price will probably be down by $100 from where its at now. the ps3 price cut combined with good games will only get it up to 360 levels. it will have to pass the 360 by a great margin to catch up. another point is how much this price cut will hurt ps3 as it is.

no in Austrailia Jack Trenton confirmed its around 6 million cause he had a chart of all the sony consoles sales,i dont think you was watching the same E3 i was. cause i seen the Sony Conference.
