PS3 will win in both sales and games by the end of this gen. (2012-2013?)

I honestly think it'll happen. The Wii will continue to sell at a high pace right now, for about a year longer depending on what they have in store at E3 maybe 2.

By that time I see PS3's price becoming 300$ or less, which will fuel many PS2 owners that havent gotten a next-gen system to get one now. I also see PS3 having the best exclusives by then. I predict Wii will have trouble with 3rd party support this entire gen, it wont get better and they'll have to rely on 1st party games the entire time. I doubt you'll see another Mario, we'll see another Zelda, and maybe Starfox and Donkey Kong, the rest are niche games.

PS3's 3rd party support for exclusives will grow more and more, due to the amount of people who own the system rising as the price lowers and more games arrive. I also think Sony will start paying for exclusives more and more as of now if they havent already.

Now you could say but the Wii and 360 will also have a price drop by the time PS3 comes out. With the Wii, I think whoever wants one, will get one within the next year or so, or already has one. After that I just dont see the Wii lasting, technology-wise.

As for the 360, by the time 360 has a price drop, PS3 will be the big name. I feel like the PS3 is just getting started in 2008, Sony has only shown very few games compared to whats expected to release on the platform (When you think about it MGS4 is only 1 heavy hitter PS3 has released, in a swarm of many to come). All of 360's heavy hitters have come out (i know this is an old argument let me continue). Lately all i've seen from Microsoft is the buying of a bunch of RPG's. The way Microsoft is doing things are the spend spend spend way. They kept thinking of now and not the future. The 360 launched with overhyped mediocre stuff while people waited for the big guns in 07'. The big guns were released (literally since almost all were shooters) and now Microsoft is realizing you need more then shooters to win this race, so now they're buying up all the RPG's ...ok and if that doesnt work? Buy up all the strategy games?. It doesnt work like that, Sony is the most well rounded company reputation and game-wise imo. All of their previous consoles has had the widest variety and I think the same will happen this gen.

I honestly don't think so. I mean, the PS3 is pretty far behind, it's sales would really have to jump for it to surpass the Wii. But I fully agree with the Wii currently having weak third-party support (who knows about the future) and the PS3 having good exclusives. (Metal Gear Solid 4 pwns by the way ) but we'll see. I do think the PS3's sales will improve greatly though, and I think it stands a good chance of surpassing the PS3, but there are just too many people buying the Wii. (lord knows why. aside from a few steller titles, that I myself love, (Twilight, Mario, Metroid, No More Heroes) the games on display are pathetic) whatver. i'm going to sleep lol.

Based on what? The same was said in its launh. "it will only sell that good on chrismas", "it will only sell that good for 6 months", "it won't be selling at that rate more than a year".

I'd take a Forza 3, Spinter Cell and Mass Effect 2 to that stack anyday...

I know a couple things though... wii sells great (mission accomplished) 360 planted itself as a legitimate contender for the xbox brand and is currantly ahead of a console that had 100+ million install base last gen. 1. I dont consider DS a console, or in the race with 360/Wii/PS3, at all.

2. You're right that many people have said the Wii will only sell for this long or that long, but I wasnt one of them, because I knew they had another Zelda to be released, more 1st party titles etc. But as of now, I dont know what other 1st party titles other then Zelda, Starfox, or Donkey Kong, can release within the next 2 years ...ones that are huge games for the company, and not niche titles from SNES or random ones that have a bunch of Mii models as main characters.

3. As for strategies working for Sony/Microsoft, how can Sony's strategy NOT work? Blu Ray is supposedly being adapted at a faster rate then DVD was at its time. Many games have yet to be shown. Games will become much more progressive as the years go on, and Microsoft still has a group of people without a hardrive, Microsoft will have to make games hardrive-manditory if they expect to get the same quality as a game like MGS4, and doing that will cut out all the arcade users, potentially making them angry enough to buy a PS3.

Nope, no one is saying that MGS is worst than Splinter Cell, we are just saying we also have a very good stealth game.

The original ME is a AAA (gamerankings) just like Uncharted is. Which will be better, ME 2 or FF13, no one knows.

Yes, I would absolutly take Mass Effect 2 over FF13... based off, well for one, story alone was outstanding, It was also the most replayable rpgs ever made. It was a blast from front to back. By the way, don't play it up like the FF series has been this unstopable AAA force for the pasat few years. Its been good, not great.

The bigger point, which unfortuanatly you missed, is that even with heavy hitters starting to trickle out for ps3, the 360 has just as many bullets left as well...

So we are using gamerankings.....well why not metacritics then? How about we use IGN? My point is here on this forum it's not a AAA game, like Uncharted. The moment we start using different sites it throws out all the rules of system wars. ME was a great game but I'd choose the FF series over it in a heart beat. Why would Force Unleashed be a plus for X360? you realise it's even coming out on the PS2 right....not to mention Wii, PS3, and handhelds.

Who says Sony isn't buy RPG licences.......you really think Sony didn't pay anything for the FF game? Who knows if Sony is trying to buy the KH3 game. All I know is Sony seems to be buying exclusives from 3rd parties......they are just delayed as usual (like MGS4 was delayed for almost a year).

There is a slight chance that it will happen this month, because of MGS4. Although I have been seeing PS3s sitting on store shelves where I live but that could be an isolated incedent.

Even if it does I doubt that it will outsell the wii next month.

Why would the Wii stop selling? There's no reason for it.

Think about why the Wii is selling. Is it because it's technologically current? No. Is it because it has the best games? No. It's because it's easy to use and accessible, and it has a lot of hype around it.

So why would a shortfall in games cause it to stop selling, when it was selling out before with nothing more than Zelda to its name? Why would it being behind the times in terms of tech cause problems, when it was never current?

The Wii is going to sell, and sell, and keep selling, and at the end of the generation, it'll be number one in sales, whatever the game situation is.

Neither do I, I just used it as an example why not necessary all the people who want a Wii have already got it.

Actually, there are so many people saying that the Blue ray isn't addapting that good as people saying it is. Will Blue-Ray work for Sony? No one knows. The betamax and the UMD didn't.

Nice list, I've never said the PS3 isn't getting good games. I'd add White Knight Story, of Level 5.

What I'm expecting:

Gears 2, Banjo, Halo Wars, The Last Remnant (timed exclusive), Infinite Undescover, Star Ocean, Fable 2, Too Human, Forza 3 (later), and Mass Effect 2/3, Splinter Cell Conviction, Next Bungie project and more, and tons of great multiplats like RE5, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Enough to have every 360 owner happy and to call new public. Add to that some excellent games that already ame out (you know, Halo 3, Gears, ME etc).

Yeah, there are good games coming for the PS3, but the 360 has also enough of them.

The PS3 has been getting jolly-stomped by the Wii for 2 years now... non-stop. You can hold up the magic shield of "it's my opinion!" if you want, but I for one would want to see some small sign somewhere at some point that the PS3 could stop getting it's arse kicked monthly, let alone break even, let alone take the LEAD, let alone close the gap with the Wii, and finally, let alone actually win this gen, before I would make such a bold prediction public.

If a baseball team had beaten another 100 times in a row, and it was never even close, would you actually honestly think that the losing team would break the streak? You might hope it in your little heart, you might bet on it because of the potential for a long-odds payoff, but would you actually believe it? Would you bet on it if the odds were 2-1?

Games will become much more progressive as the years go on, and Microsoft still has a group of people without a hardrive, Microsoft will have to make games hardrive-manditory if they expect to get the same quality as a game like MGS4, and doing that will cut out all the arcade users, potentially making them angry enough to buy a PS3.
