First and foremost let me start out by saying this. I do own both consoles as my sig indicates so my opinions are totally unbias. First and foremost let me say that I think the console that will have the most sales in the end is the Wii, me personally I lost interest in Nintendo since the N64 so I personally dont ever plan on purchasing a Wii. While the Wii will come out on top of sales I honestly dont place the Wii in the same category as the PS3 and 360, this console war is really all about PS3/360. I mean the Wii is only $250.00 and is targeted to a younger audience Please note that is no way speaking bad about the Wii whatsoever, I respect Nintendo and think the Wii is perfect for the audience it aims for Ofcourse the Wii will have more sales. So getting back to the real console war which is PS3 VS 360 I think the PS3 in the end will come out on top and heres why...
I really enjoy my 360 greatly, infact I play it a lot more than my PS3, i havent played my PS3 in almost a week while I play Ghost Recon, Halo 2 and Gears almost on a daily basis, so yes im very big on the 360 and enjoy it greatly HOWEVER I personally think the 360 hardware on top of using just DVD9 will really hurt MS in the long run. At the moment it might seem that blu ray is highly unneccesary and honestly judging by the current PS3 library it does seem unnecesary because lets face it Gears right now blows anything on PS3 out of the water and its only on DVD9 BUT on the same token While Gears looks and plays fantastic it still is only 8 people on screen at one time with very enclosed maps. After watching the recent developer interviews on Lair, that game really has impressed me greatly and is really providing that true next gen look which honestly I dont think it could be possible on just your average DVD9 format.
Another reason why I think the PS3 will win is simply having to pay for xbox live. Does Xbox live right now surpass PSN?! Absolutly, for right now yes xbox live owns PSN. But, do I think once home is released PSN will exceed Xbox Live? Most likely, yes. And also with it being free that will be a huge advantage over the 360, The thing that really bugs me about microsoft's xbox live service is.. A.You have to pay for it which does add up over time, B. on top of paying a monthly fee you have to also pay for extra arcade games and such and C. You have to pay a whole $10.00 for just new maps on Gears?! That really disappoints me as a Hardcore Gears gamer, I mean we pay $60.00 for the game already on top of a $50.00 a year xbox live fee and NOW we have to pay a extra $10.00 for just more levels in a game?! I mean seriously when will it stop?
And last but not least I want to touch on Hardware reliablity. I mean after a year and a half the 360's are still breaking down, I mean there is really no excuse for that. And despite what "they" might have you believe, the defect rate is much greater than 3% and I really think this will really catch up to MS in the end, the bottom line is if 360s keep breaking and they are going to continue to charge for just something as simple as just extra maps, I really see people flocking more toward the PS3 in the end once the great games are released for it.
So to sum up what im saying is.. Right now the better gaming console is the 360 overall. I think the 360 will continue its momentum with titles such as Forza, Halo,Mass effect and bioshock on the horizon BUT I really think it will slow down after that and the Hardware limitations and format limitations of DVD9 will seem dated compared to what the PS3 will be capable of in the next several months. So in a nutshell.. The 360 has won the battle while the PS3 will win the war. Again im a very proud owner of both consoles and enjoy both greatly, all this is through my experience since owning both consoles, not based on blind fanboysim.
