Now that this gen is almost over, in retrospect and in your personal opinion, which console seemed to have not delivered (or delivered the least) on the pre-launch hype it received regarding its potential?

So it sold 90 million in 2 weeks? That must be a personal experience, because I know many that have enjoyed the Wii a lot. See most people dont game like we do. It isnt the major activity in their life. I say PS3. 120 fps, 4d or some non sense like that was said.I'm going with Wii, everyone was hyped for its controls but got stale like 2 weeks later

All of them in some way.
Wii's motion controls didn't revolutionise gaming (although did broaden its appeal).
PS3's blu ray did not change the games played in many meaningful ways beyond staying on a single disc.
360's challenge to the PS3's all round nature was given a kicking by the abandonment of HD-DVD.
1 day for me.. was thankful super smash bros brawl didnt require motion gimmickness. biggest joke is wii fit though...does anyone know of anyone who actually lost a reasonable amount of weight from it?I'm going with Wii, everyone was hyped for its controls but got stale like 2 weeks later

No offense, but the only thing that works in losing weight is the person that wants to. Any calorie cutting and regular excercise combo will lose weight, regardless of whether its doing it on a console, exercising along with fitness shows, going to a gym. "nothing works". you either do or you dont work at it. True, but I was just saying you can lose weight with Wiifit.[QUOTE="cainetao11"][QUOTE="freedomfreak"]
Yeah,it really works.freedomfreak

4d, backwards compatibility, OtherOS, 120fps, revolutionary graphics, 380+ exclusive AAA titles a year, ultra secure online system....
Yeah, the ps3 provided none of those, and was therefore incredibly overhyped.
Now, I know originally models had OtherOS and some even had bc, but those were removed and do not count.
Sony's PR was hilarious at the beginning, and then when they were humbled, their fans stepped in to compensate. Cows remain the biggest fanboy clowns in the industry. So obviously the PS3 has received the most overhype.
PS3, teh cell... teh cell only delivered slightly better looking games, if at all, and slightly worse multiplats for the most part. Followed by the Wii... the motion gaming really was a let down except for a handfull of games.SaltyMeatballsPretty much this.
TEH CELL! we don't need the pc! too cheap! $1200 if you can find one on store shelves! it's a supercomputer! work more hours to buy one! i have no concerns about the competition!
Do you guys really forget how the PS3 was supposed to make the 360 look like a last gen console when it finally came out? Typical arrogant Sony kept saying how it was going to BLOW the competition out of the water or that there really wasn't a competition.

Don't forget the 2 ethernet ports, something like 7 USB ports, 1080p native and the rest of sony's broken promises. Clearly the ps3 is the most hyped and the one that delivered the least.I'm going with Wii, everyone was hyped for its controls but got stale like 2 weeks later

Hmm....you know what? I'm going to have to go with the PS3. Keep in mind this is the launch we are talking about and not the current PS3 because it's a great system, and IMO the best console on the market.
But Sony over hyped the PS3 to death! They hyped up all these super specs and all these other things and tried to convince people that it was worth paying $600 like it was a down payment on a car.
It launched over priced, lack luster online service (PSN is GREAT now of course), very little games, inferior multiplats (of course today the majority of multiplats are identicle), and the controller didn't even have rumble.
And yet Sony STILL tried to hype the hell out of it, it wasn't until the PS3 Slim that Sony changed for the better and the system started selling like crazy, it became a very good system after that, Sony improved it a lot!
The Playstation 3 easily.
I can go on. The PS3 was a crap console until 2009 when Sony got their dumb act together.
The PS3 was overhyped by Sony, and it lead to the rabid fanboys coming out of their holes, but the Wii was so hyped up that it was hard to find one on store shelves for two years straight. Also do you remember the E3 where it debuted? The line for the console was soooooooooooooo loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong.
I think gamers were hyping the Wii much more than the PS3
