If you own a widescreen monitor, you can buy a cable like this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&cs_id=1023104&p_id=2404&seq=1&format=2&style=

and play your PS3 on your monitor! all that is required of your monitor is DVI and HDCP.

Most widescreen monitors have both DVI and HDCP. If you don't know if your monitor have HDCP or not, just do a google of your monitor's model number or check out the manufacter's website.

Actually, you are wrong, the Xbox 360 does *the same* thing via the VGA adaptor. Hmm... so with both the PS3 and 360, I can purchase an extra cable to use a widescreen monitor as an HDTV, only with the 360 I can use an old monitor too!

Another common misconception, the HDMI cable on the Xbox 360 offered very little improvement over the component or VGA picture - the "pure digital" arguement is an absolute load of bunk, simply because going from input signal to screen is not a direct process. With good cabling, there really would be no particular reason to fret either way.

If you own a widescreen monitor, you can buy a cable like this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&cs_id=1023104&p_id=2404&seq=1&format=2&****

and play your PS3 on your monitor! all that is required of your monitor is DVI and HDCP.

Most widescreen monitors have both DVI and HDCP. If you don't know if your monitor have HDCP or not, just do a google of your monitor's model number or check out the manufacter's website.

remember this only work with PS3 (because every PS3 have HDMI), if you own a premium or a core xbox 360 or a wii good luck. Another reason why PS3 is future proof, you don't even need a hdtv to enjoy High Def simply by purchasing a 5 dollar cable and use your monitor as a HDTV.

Here's the OP, you can edit away, but you've attempted to claim an advantage for your "chosen system" based on a lack of knowledge of the competition. I think that's very telling of what happens in these forums sometimes.

Is this the part where you try to damage control your original post? Trying to say the 360 can't do something that the PS3 can?

Enough, let him go, he admitted he made a mistake, and there's a lesson to be learned in all of this about having blinders on. Though, please, TC, don't try and go back and make claims that you were discussing something you weren't. If you weren't aware that the Xbox 360 had a VGA cable, you could not have been discussing DVI exclusively. If you weren't aware the Xbox 360 had a VGA cable, I really don't think you want to get into a discussion about the nuances of PS3 / 360 picture quality with regard to a digital vs. analog signal on a computer monitor with me.
