i had an xbox 360 since launch and remembered always saying that i wouldnt buy a ps3, then as soon as the slim came out, i bought it the first day.

i wonder if ps3 owners made a similar decision in never wanting to buy an xbox 360, and now that the slim came out they either bought one, or want to soon.

its the slim effect

like mass effect

Vinegar_Strokes

it's smaller than the original, so yes, it can be considered a slim.

MS calls it the new xbox 360. others call it the Xbox 360S.

Technically, is the new PS3 called officially the PS3 slim? We call it the Slim, as does the media, but it just says PS3 on the actual unit. The name stuck.

As far as the 360 slim, what I've noticed in my personal life is my Xbox buddies are more excited for it (Wanting to replace their current 360 to get it), but I haven't seen PS3 buddies wanting one yet...but it's too early to tell, maybe?

Maybe that effect will happen down the road, maybe it won't. One thing the PS3 slim had going for it was a reduced price ($400 reduced to $299) and one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market. It had a "Deal" type of effect.

Unfortunately, the 360 slim or 360s doesn't offer that, but at least M$ added Wifi finally. I think the 1st Party games may have benefitted the PS3 slim's release timing as well, consumers felt more confident. However, the Xbox 1st party has dwindled due to layoffs / downsizing, sell offs, or complete closures. I know my buddies are well aware of the "momentum", it's hard to answer your question for sure. It doesn't seem like it right now, but maybe.:)

It would have been awesome if the 360 slim came with a price drop, that would have been incredible.

ouch reality

Yep! :P And it came out after the PS3 slim too! I don't know how they did it. :P

To think that a machine that came out in 2005 (360) could be redesigned in 2010 to somehow be smaller than the 2005 model, after another console did so...well, that is certainly "ouch" reality (I don't even know what that is? :P ).

Yep, the PS3 Slim made me sold my Wii and Xbox 360 to get it on the first week. Now I bought another Xbox 360 Elite because I don't like the Xbox 360 Slim.

smaller =/= slimmer. slim means thinner. The 360S is just as wide as the old 360.

I am trading in my old 360 for either an Elite or the newest model, I am leaning toward the elite because I don't have a lot of money atm and they dropped the price by 100 dollars and it includes 2 games (that I already own but I can sell them to buy more games)

Edit: Is this a good idea anyone? or should I go for the newest model

Not only are the older models brand new cheaper and a better deal, you get a THREE year warranty on those for RROD/E74.
The New 360 slim only comes with a standard one year warranty. So that's something to consider as well.

I didn't say that, only you did.

However, the Xbox 360 certainly had an advantage in time considering it came out a full year before the PS3, and the 360 was redesigned after the PS3 was, yet the 360 slim still has a giant powerbrick and using DVD drive. Just think, the original 360 was $399 or $299 back in 2005, now in 2010, the 360 slim is $299. It's amazing. It's something to behold.

As far as your opinion about a non-Blu-Ray playing redesigned 360 being superior to the Blu-Ray playing redesigned PS3 with a price drop, that doesn't surprise me, "ProjectNatalFan". Glad you love that 360 slim redesign so much though! :P

i bought an xbox 360 at launch (cost me like $600). i enjoyed games like halo 2-3 and gears 1-2 and ofcourse ninja gaiden. i remember being a total fanboy for xbox 360, everytime a ps3 commerical would come on it would make me sick lol. at the moment, xbox 360 was the top console imo. 3 years later, my xbox 360 had broke twice. i was too lazy to send it in and get a new one so i sold it for $200 with all my games and stuff. i bought a ps3 and it was an awesome investment. got my ninja gaiden remakes :). i miss halo and gears, but ps3 has great action adventure games that i like, metal gear solid, ninja gaiden sigma, god of war, uncharted, etc. PS3 is the top console imo, and now everytime i see an xbox commerical it makes me sick lol. the xbox 360 is dying

I think both had that new gadget hype effect that excited the people who like new gadgets just like the iphone 4. But the reception for the new 360 was better since more people thought it looks better aesthetically and it added things while it seems more people didn't like the look of the PS3 slim plus it still didn't have PS2 BC and took out ports.

I think both consoles are ugly.

The PS3 slim, for being slim, is pretty fat tbqh, and I don't like how the 360 slim just looks deformed with that bend in it.

I was going to buy one, until I figured I wasn't going to buy an enitre console for one game (Halo: Reach), and the fact that the console itself is a hardware problem, it has a tendency to overheat ALOT and RLOD

I like the new PS3 design. Don't care for the first one. That dang George Foreman grill thing is forever burned into my brain. I own the Foreman grill PS3. I can live with it :). But I think that the PS3 slim looks good as do all of the 360 designs.

The new 360 just looks like they built this thing on the San Andreas Fault, and the plates shifted causing an earthquake :P

I guess it's cool that it's their own **** but it just doesn't fit well with me. Maybe if I never had to see it from an angle ever again, and just looked at it head-on :P

I'm not sure but I read some where the reason why it has that "dent" because they wanted it to resemble an X, especially in that picture. I mean it is called an Xbox 360.

well anybody who doesn't have a 360 should really consider the cheap arcades now, theres plenty of deals where you're paying less that $150 you get a controller a mic, and a game included. Just hope you have a usb drive to use with it. But yea 360s and ps3s are getting relatively cheap now

I don't know about that but I hear they had Alienware make it.

Probably. I'm trying to view some Alienware products that really reminds me of the new 360 but I can't really find any. I found this though.

I think more people will replace their current 360s with a new one than PS3 owners will make the jump to 360. That's just speculation on my part of course, but that's the way i see it going. I know i want a new 360, simply because the old one looks so huge and well... old, under my TV.

Not that i'm taking either side here, but a simple fact correction: You dont need to live in the US to stream 1080p movies on Xbox Live. I currently live in the UK and there are thousands of movies to rent via xbox live and more added every week. The US-only period was very short, and ended a very long time ago.

I bought my 360 once the "slim" was announced, but not because I wanted a slim. The $50 price drop on the Elite (bringing it to $215 for the ODST/Forza bundle) was too good to pass up.

Since the ps3 slim version came out while the ps3 was still gaining ground I think a lot of people jumped to it when the slims came out.

I can really see the 360 slim actually convincing anybody to buy a 360 for the first time... I'm sure millions of 360 owners will rebuy a 360, but few gamers will be buying one just because the new model.

As far as sex appeal goes I find the new 360 slim to be the best looking console of this gen followed by the fat ps3, then the wii, then the ps3 slim, and last the fat 360
