Do you guys think that Sony possibly has realised they f'ed up with the Ps3? Maybe they see there's no light at the end of this tunnel and are possibly already deep into development on it's successor, which could possibly be released before the next Xbox? I see this as a possibility.

They said PS3 will last 8-10 years, so I doubt their stubborn ignroant attitude will ever make a Ps4 anytime soon.

There is no way the PS3 will last that long, not with its current sales and competition. We all know that in about 5 years the next Xbox will be out, and most likely the next Nintendo console, so there is no way the PS3 could hope to sell for 5 more years after the competition already has their next gen systems out. The PS4 is definitely already in the works, just like Nintendo and MS are readying their next consoles.

That's to be expected once a new generation of consoles releases they begin developement on the next incarnation, Microsoft and Sony and maybe even Nintendo are doing it right now.

Hey, I only quoted what Sony said. There's still a chance PS3 can pick up - not a huge one, but it's still there. If high-profile games like MGS4 come out regulary enough, and developers tap into the PS3 what they can't on 360, PS3 may go on the up. Then again, consumers may not have the patience and may just get a 360.

PS4 is in development, but I doubt it'll be here before 2012, unless PS3 does worse than GC.

Well the sales wasn't so much my point as it was that both MS and Nintendo will be on their next gen systems within the next 5 years (MS for sure, Nintendo likely), and there is no way the PS3 can expect to sell (well anyway) for 3-5 more years with a whole other gen of consoles is available.

why not ? ps2 is still selling after the other consoles died, the story was the same with ps1. sony always has the ace up their sleeve that is the slimline incarnation of their systems, its like a second launch and it prolongs the life of their consoles. and what is up with the lemmings putting this master debater stuff in their sigs now ? im not bashing but im just saying thats not really a title you give yourself you usually earn it, know what i mean ?

Every company starts working on their next console as soon as they've finished/released their previous one.  That being said, I think it's pretty interesting to consider which one of them will try and get their next console out first, as it's looking like they'll all have good reason to.

First, I'm not a lemming by any means, just so far I've only bought a 360. Hopefully I'll have a Wii by the end of the year and a PS3 once the price hits $300 ($400 if BR beats HD-DVD). I got the master debater thing from a drama presentation I did back when I was in grade 10. Lets just say the teacher wasn't pleased.

But this is just a year and a half after the first current-gen console from the competition in the case of PS2 sales. We're talking about 3-5 years of PS3 sales after the release of MS's and Nintendo's next gen consoles. I'm not saying the PS3 couldn't last that long, just that it will have a hard time if it does.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....do you actually belive ANYTHING SONY SAYS...they lie ALL the time.....it is a flop in my eyes....they aren't selling because of the price...and they don't heve any good games yet

Wii doesn't have too many good games right now either...but atleast they are smart enough to have a cheap system so they can sell systems

im pretty sure xbox and GC were dead if not near dead before 360 launched, what was the last great GC game RE4 ? and last great xbox1 game ? i cant even remember to tell you the truth. the next gen console doesnt have to launch for the previous consoles to be dead. sony is not intending to rely on ps3 for 10 years and not release a new console, they can more than afford to release a ps4 in 5-7 years. i think they are trying to say they will support ps3 for the 10 year lifecycle, like they did with their previous consoles. ps1 was still doing great into last gen and ps2 is still doing great now, 7-8 years into its lifecycle ? they arent gonna wait to release ps4 till 10 years from now. 4-5 years or maybe sooner from now they will release the slim ps3 and then start planning for ps4 release IMO

They're going to support PS3 for around 10 years. But that doesn't mean they won't release another console to compete with MS's next one in 5-6 or so years (if MS goes for a new one in 3 years again they'll probably skip that gen). Guarunteed Sony and MS are looking into future technologies and planning stuff though......

Even if they did do that I think it would be a mistake. I mean imagine how much higher the PS3's sales would be if FFXII and GoW 2 were released on it instead of the PS2? We're talking millions of consoles sold in all likelyhood.

I mean continuing support for the PS3 after the PS4 is released. Thats what my point about FFXII and GoW 2 was about, those two games would move millions of units if they were on the PS3 instead of the PS2. But because Sony supports "dead" consoles so long after they release a new product they put two major exclusives on their old platform when their new product needs good, exclusive games.

what do you mean sony keeps supporting dead consoles ? i was refering to GC and xbox, ps2 is still very much alive and more than well. i know what you are saying but it didnt seem to hurt ps2 in the long run when they kept supporting ps1, im sure it wont hurt ps3 7 years from now when ps4 comes out and the slim ps3 would have been out for a couple years etc.

square and sony santa monica wants profits when all is said and done and production budgets wouldve jumped enourmously if they were next gen titles and they wouldve sold maybe half as much if they were lucky. FF12 is almost at 5 million as it is, you gotta remember it came out in japan like a year ago. it would be hard for a company to risk almost guaranteed success on ps2 for less profits and more production costs on ps3 this early in the game

The PS4 will be powered by an ultra high tech processor chip called the Perfect Cell. Sony will then threaten to destroy the world but will be stopped by a team of angry screaming wide-eyed men created by Nintendo, aided by a time traveller sent from the Future by Microsoft to prevent cyborgs from killing mankind.

I like the approach that Sony is taking. It may look like a mistake now, but when competitors are releasing their next-next gen consoles, the PS3 will be selling for 99 bucks offering similar functionality and a wide library of games. Blu-Ray gives the console longevity over its generational bretheren. Sony can essentially start their R&D phase well AFTER the other consoles are released, figure out what works and what doesn't and release their next offering accordingly. They will essentially be on their own life-cycle.

umm no sony is not microsoft, they dont rush consoles to market and create 4 year life spansspringz300

Even if that was the case, it's pretty wise to start designing now for a future console, then to wait at the last minute to develope. That means finding out all the good & bad things of the console that is out now. Doing this, will allow them to put years or research while the current console is running, and when ready, they will release the new console with improvements, upgrades and power.

I don't know why people thtink that designing now for a future console is a bad thing? People use it to put down the company  when starting now is tthe smarter thing to do.

80gb (Korea Only) ps3 is not an answer for 360 elite. Sony doesn't need to answer to an inferior system (1.2 HDMI, No Wifi and only 120gb).

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there a rumour of a new PSP ... just 2 years after its release (in PAL) ...

It's a new model, not PSP 2. It said to be smaller but with the same screen size.

that would be a dumb move.. there already losing crap loads of money from each PS3.. Making a PS4 wouldn't help... at all.
