congrats to Sony on sales, but is 3% of install base buying VR really that good?
Considering it's technology that:
1) Is in it's first generation as a product while PS4/XBox One are in their 8th and Switch might be considered 9th gen
2) Requires a PS4 of some kind to actually use, ie a buy in for a buy in
3) It's a technology that must be used to realize how amazing it is as someone who recently bought it
4) Doesn't have full support yet in the way of say a PS4 did
5) The hate for Playstation peripherals that people have
6) Most console gamers are fifa/madden/cod users.
Yes, it's selling very well, over Sony's expectations by a lot, sold out during black friday, is by far the best selling premium vr machine (competition is oculus and vive), skyrim sold very well, etc etc. The attach rate I feel is pretty strong on the VR headsets as well I imagine. Anyway it seems that bigger devs are interested, the last show (was it paris games week?) had a lot of psvr showcase, almost as much as ps4 stuff, apparently psvr will have a decent presence at psx, including 2 classified as legendary game creators talking on I believe the 9th about the issues and benefits to VR or whatever. (death stranding might be a psvr title considering kojima has shown interest in vr or it could be other people as well) Either way, it seems that it's a huge unknown game that we'll probably find out about on the 8th and they'll discuss it on the 9th and about PSVR in general. I'm expecting some big reveals for psvr at psx, and at the worst they'll have a good showing of new games, but even if they revealed nothing the future lineup for psvr actually is pretty good already.
But yeah as a general note, you'll realize that VR is literally the future of games (traditional tv gaming will co-exist), it's literally amazing. Motion controls and stuff like kinect have been gimmicks, same with playstation move, however move controls with vr is just a perfect combination, I can't tell you how immersive VR is. Like you put on the headset and you expect tvs and stuff and to turn around to look at things maybe, but VR does way more than head tracking like tilting your head to dodge a fireball/arrow, painball (rec room), it also has a sense of scale, depth of objects, etc etc, all I can say to describe it is that it feels like you're actually in the video game and I'm not joking. It's actually super godly amazing technology.
