PS4 to support 4K video but not games.

Looks like Sony is pushing 4K video with the PS4 but its rather quiet on the 3D front.

Thinking of shelling out the (insane amounts of) cash for a sexy TV with 4K resolution so your PlayStation 4 games can look damn near godly? Well, you may want to rethink making such an (incredibly wild) investment solely for your gaming purposes. It turns out the PlayStation 4 will only support 4K for images and videos but not for games.

The official answer is that the PS4 supports 4K output but for personal contents, like photos or videos. Not games, said Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida in a statement to Polygon. PS4 games do not work on 4K.

Given how expensive 4K TVs are at the moment, Id say this is hardly bad news to pretty much anyone, but thats just me. Im certain theres a rich dude out there with a couple of 4K TVs whos really upset about this news. Sorry, guy. Better luck next next generation.

That made me laugh for some reason. But it also sums up my thoughts. I won't be that guy, so oh well.

Kinda obvious to all except some mad cows...

1080p with good AA and AF and stable framerates will be good enough for a number of years, still. (unless you use multi-screen sollutions)

lol dude crysis running at 320x240 still looks better than n64 games running same res.

res isnt everything it's actually the ingame asset quality.

4K games are a long ways off. 8 Gigs of GDDR5 is no where near the amount of memory needed for 4K textures.

Maybe when it becomes the standard of broadcasting, movies and games I'll get a TV that supports it. Too expensive and not much support. Heil68

I hope this 4K thing (for TVs) fails faster than the recent 3D fad. The extra resolution won't be visible at all in the most common scenarios, and I'd much prefer HDR,  and/or higher frame-rates.

I have a 720 HDTV. I could have upgraded to a 1080p, but never saw a reason with console not even doing 720 really. I will buy a 1080p HDTV when I buy a PS4. Anything higher than that is a waste of money.AmazonTreeBoa

Films have long been created the existence of 4K in mind, as that's what our cinemas have. I'm criticising 4K TVs. Even though I disagree with what you said about 3D vs 4K (in TVs), I'm not going to defend 3D, because that isn't the point of my post.
