I got a PS5 for free the other day (im serious) Now the hdmi port is broken and it will cost $280 to fix it but I'm gonna sell it on ebay for $200 as parts instead 🤣

It's insane, but that's just the way it is in the current climate and economic landscape.

@AgentA-Mi6: That's BS because Sony has modified the way they make the PS5 twice that I know of using cheaper parts and STILL raised the price.

Sony can't blame the tariffs for this either because the prices haven't been raised in the US and the aforementioned countries haven't raised and tariffs on China.

This is so Sony can keep the price of the PS5 in NA the same because it's the most competitive market, and Sony thinks they can screw over the rest of the world and get us to pay extra, **** Sony.

They already seemed high, to be honest.

It's interesting how this isn't impacting the US prices, though. Blaming it on "the economy" sort of seems like profiteering in this context.

I'm guessing they're at the point in the generation and sales where they aren't moving as many units as they once did, but it's still a somewhat hot commodity, that this is the last time they can really stick it to the consumer before prices stagnate or come down (and they have to compete with refurbished units).

Raising the price of your platform is just going to gatekeep people from buying your platform. This is just stupid. Tariffs are stupid. The orange man is stupid.

Sony is being greedy. Now watch PS5 hardware sales slow down after this.

Silent Hill f is listed for $120 AUD at the moment, which is more than Mario Kart World and much more than the new Donkey Kong.

I wonder if that'll be the new norm, with Switch 2 games continuing to be cheaper than Playstation games?

I thought a little about this, and I now suspect this is laying the groundworks to raises prices in North America as well.

For what do these regions in common? They use English as an official language - and yes, English is one of the European Union's 24 official languages. So there is a higher degree of interoperability between these regions and North America. This is probably intended to head off the import markets.

I think Sony thinks they can raise the price worldwide except for NA because it's the most competitive gaming market, and thus for the world to pay more to cover off any future price rise in NA.

Because Sony never raised the price in NA the last time they raised the price of the console everywhere else.

I highly doubt Sony are forced to raise the prices because of a challenging economic environment. Normally, as hardware ages, it becomes cheaper, but I guess Sony likes it better this way.

Weird gen tbh. Somehow now the last gen Series S makes more sense and xbox instead of looking like a dumbass like they always do, now seems smartest in the room. PS5 digital at €399 - €430 I highly recommends it over xbox but at €499? Go get the last gen Series S if you want to buy consoles.

In all seriousness though, that does suck. If I was to put my tinfoil hat on, I'd say this is to capitalise on the release of GTA6. It's going to sell a shed load of console when it launches and the vast majority of those consoles in the markets mentioned in the OP will be Playstations.

At least that's Sonys hope. GTA6 could theoretically flop in sales....technically. It won't mind. But technically it could.

these consoles should have seen several price-cuts by now..

instead we have $700~800 mid-gen refreshes and base consoles that increase in price year-after-year.. this is certainly no way to grow a "stagnant" console market and it's pretty tone-deaf when the younger generation is increasingly moving towards gaming on mobile and PC..

Over here in Sweden, Mario Kart World is the same price as other AAA games, and DK is cheaper.

Silent Hill F costs as much as the physical edition of Mario Kart World. I am getting the digital edition of MKW. So MKW will be cheaper too.

i dont think this is all trumps fault...companies are just looking to raise prices as much as they can, because they know people will pay it. People bought the shitty portal, the ps5 pro, all the stupid collectibles in between. You guys need to stop buying shit at whatever price they set. Even PC gaming is a sad pos...with gpu prices skyrocketing. I personally used to buy AMD gpus, but nowadays I stick with intel. **** nvidia, never bought a single thing from them, or apple either. This is how you vote with your wallet.

I don't have any loyalty for any of these companies...but I will buy their shares.
