The PS5 Pro does a worse job of selling itself compared to the PS4 Pro. The “upgrade” requires Digital Foundry zoomed in comparisons in most cases. There are a few games where the difference is clear, but the average consumer won’t care enough to make up the price difference.
Console hardware is in a real awkward spot right now. They are still pretty far behind PC, but not far enough to make generational leaps like they used to. This generations leap was the ssd’s. Other than that, the imbalances between CPU clocks, RAM capacity and GPU power will hold these consoles down.
But PC gaming has been pretty rough lately and is only gonna get worse. The GPU prices are outrageous and the tariffs are making things worse. The GPU generational leaps are smaller than they’ve ever been as well because Nvidia and AMD are moving away from consumer grade GPUs as a focus. The margins are much better elsewhere. I know folks are expecting new consoles In the next 2-4 years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this generation sticks around until 2028-2030. The current batch of consoles are still quite expensive to produce, and the “next gen” console would need to cost $1,000+ to offer any real upgrade.
