PS5 to support New Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1....Will X-Series X?

This is great news for me as I currently only use my Wi-fi for all my Consoles in my family room and only my PC is plugged in directly through a hardwired cable near the router up stairs.

I don't have space to run a giant cable through my house to get to my console downstairs though. I really hope X-Series X uses Wi-Fi 6 as well cause I saw some tech specs and it said x-series x was still using last gen 802.11ac dual band wi-fi technology.

I'm planning on upgrading to a Wi-Fi 6 router and if x-series x can't do it its gonna throw my whole wi-fi setup out the window by not using current gen technology.

Like I said I can't run a giant cord throughout my house to get to the family room and wi-fi is my only way to game on my console I need wi-fi 6. I'm more casual player on console I do my hardcore gaming on PC so wi-fi 6 is kind that perfect balance.

Uh....why? WiFi 6 is backwards compatible with older standards. I mean, yeah if the XSX doesn't use it that would be a blockhead move on MS's part and make your downloads comparatively slower for your Xbox. But it won't "throw your whole wi-fi setup out the window".

Too bad Sony wasn't this forward-thinking with the original PS4. I still have mine and since day 1 it's always been disgusting to me that it only supports god awful 2.4ghz wifi(I believe it's only just Wireless N as well) despite the fact that 5.0ghz Wireless was mainstream for over half a decade before the PS4 came out. Not to mention Wireless AC routers were already released before the PS4 as well, so there was no excuse to not put a Wireless AC chip in the PS4.

I could go run a speed test on my PS4's wifi rn and get like 8mbps, then plug in Ethernet and suddenly get 300+

Not everyone has a house setup so they can hardwire a cable from there modem or the router mines in a completely different area from my family room. I need Wi-Fi 6 for download and gaming speeds. This site said the x-series 802.11ac wifi and we got you and Pedro defending before its announced.

I am extremely happy for this. I am glad sony really took the time to gather feedback on PS4 problems and solve them like the PS4 Pro especially is loud so R&D went for a more expensive solution for PS5, PS4 wifi card is shit so they went for a better card this gen. I just hope all that upgrades doesnt cost us a lot.

@ProtossRushX: How did you manage this gen with your PS4, considering it didn't even support 5ghz WiFi, which X1 did?

I used 802.11ac on my ps4 and xb1 I dunno what 5ghz is I don't even think I have that. Now were in 2020 we need wifi 6 802 was last gen.

BlueTooth 5.1 could have interesting implications with directional positioning. The WiFi upgrade won't affect me so long as there's a wired option on the back of the system. I always hardwire my Playstation.

Bro I live in the present and now a days I'm more of a wi-fi snob than I used to be. I believe the ps4 slim and pro both support 5ghz so its not even an issue for ps4's anymore.

quick snapshot of what Wifi6 benefits are. It seems the most useful ones are

1. Faster speeds over a greater distance. With Wifi 5 and 5Ghz you have a relatively short distance you can be from the router to get full speed benefits, supposedly wifi6 will extend the distance.

2. Allow transfer speeds over 1Gbit/s where current speeds on Wifi 5 are capped at 1Gbit/s (this only matters if you have an internet connect faster than 1Gbit/s

As for the Bluetooth, XBOX does not use bluetooth in connecting the peripherals to the system because of latency issues with bluetooth.

Bluetooth is the industry standard for PC gamers. Why turn your back on the best? PC gamers use bluetooth for their wireless controllers on PC. Theres nothing better than it.

Theres a lot of pc gamers like bassman who play on the couch with the pc in the living room. Bluetooth is very good right now I dunno why the launch xb1 controller didn't even have bluetooth microsoft atleast learned quick how important it is.

their connection apparently has less input lag than bluetooth.. so why not use the better tech that they developed. Just because there is an existing tech does not mean that you shouldn't develop a better one
