A) its not free
B) downloading 39GB for fucking 4 days of multiplayer is completely stupid.
A.) If I have PS+, how much does this cost?
B) For many of us, it's more like 5 or 6 hours rather than 4 days. But yea digital download gaming this gen isn't for you if it's that slow on your connection
A) If you have PS+, you paid something to play this. Its not free, its more of a reward for paying for something else. A benefit. Its not a hard concept.
B) I'm not talking about time to download, I'm talking about bandwidth caps which do exist for people even if they don't exist for you. I think its stupid to swallow that much bandwidth for a weekend event. If you disagree, that's great, its still not going to stop being stupid though.
A) That's fundamentally incorrect. It is free. The fact that it's attached to PS+ doesn't change the fact that it was made available for free to its members. Just like all those 360 games are free with the LIVE Gold program. They are free. That is, they did not have to be provided. Resogun on the PS4, for example, is free. They could charge for it but chose not to. It's an item that is otherwise sold for direct profit. As another example, I got an kit of items when I bought my BMW. Mostly trinkets. Keychains, Umbrellas, cuff links, etc. The items are otherwise about $100 in the BMW store at the dealership. They did not have to include them, but they did. They were free additions to my purchase.
Anything else you have to say on the subject is really just arguing semantics, which I'm in no mood for. It's intellectually dishonest and disingenuous. Specious at best. Nobody wants to talk to someone who's arguing just to argue. Or worse yet, arguing to try to not be wrong in the face of a more rational answer.
B) Most of us in the US don't have bandwidth caps, so it's largely a non-issue here. But yes, in countries where there ARE bandwidth caps, it's not going to be worth the download. And in fact, in those countries and submit to you that a digital download future is unrealistic at present. But that's here nor there. In countries and areas where you have a good internet provider and speeds, the download is not a big deal anymore. I'm getting 60mbps down/12mbps up here in Miami. If I didn't already own the game, I'd probably download it to see what I think, like I would any other demo. Start the download, go to sleep, and wake up to a finished and installed download. YMMV, but don't presume to speak in broad strokes about the value and validity of freely provided demos and MP options. Free weekends for varying games have been common on Steam for years. And yes, those free weekends required you to download entire games (sometimes 15GB-20GB) in order to play. It's a value proposition: "Is downloading this game for the free weekend worth the time to download and install it?" The answer to that varies from person to person. Maybe there is NO game you'd find worth downloading a demo of or for a free weekend. But you obviously don't represent everyone, as if you did they wouldn't continue to do it for years on Steam, right?
If it's not reasonable or realistic for you, then don't bother. Others will and may find a game worth purchasing. Speak for yourself in such matters.
