i debated on whether i would put this on the ps3 board or bring it here....i guess you can see how that turned out. i wanted to put it here so everyone can see my rant.

Semi-long story.

i just got Littlebigplanet yesterday and was lookign for some peeps to play online with (no noone in my friends lists has the game). and when i tried to choose the play onlien option before a stage i still wound up playing by myself. so i read the instruction book and discovered that if i make friends with people who have the game we canplay togetherand go through someplay stages together and whatnot, kinda form a little group. anyways i remember the COUNTLESS defenses here on gamespot about how good home is so i said to myself "hey, theres got to be someone there whos got the game, maybe if i make more friends i can have more people to play the game with" so i booted up home (for the 3rd time im my experience with it) now before i completely trash home as the most useless product singe the beta max, let me tell you it DOES have some good things about it but ill get to that during the end. so im wandering around home trying to strike up conversations about gaming and let me tell you. PSN, unless you already know someone on it has some of THE MOST shallow gamers ive ever played with. there was like a hundred guys there and maybe a few girls. now most of the guys there are trying to run the stupid thing like its somekind of online dating service and the females were so stuck up (probably from being hit on multi millions of times from the guys there) that its hard to strike up a conversation about ANYTHING other than "age, sex, location" WTF!?? the one person that actually did hold SOMEKINDA communication with me, he wanted to talk about the comming of Jesus or something, again, WTF!?? and i STILL didnt find anyone to play the game with so ill just have to try using the "play online" option again when i play the game and hope for the best

so what in GODS NAME is the point of home if noone there is actually there to talk about gaming? what i DID wind up doing on home was downloading the bowling game (wich i havent played yet) its full of mini games, and messing around with my virtual characters appearance.

so i ask you what is the purpose of home? why even tout it as something worthwhile when its a complete piece of crap....because of the users in it.

i do want to make mention, this isnt a one time thing either. the first time i tried home (well second i guess you can say) although i didnt talk with anyone, or TRY to, the whole damn place was full of stuck up girls and horny dudes just by the convesation bubbles i was seeing.

Yeah can't say I spent more than a couple minutes in home. To me it almost seemed like World of Warcraft crossed with the Sims except there's nothing worthwhile to do besides play Wii type carnival games or chat like I'm on flipping MSN.

The pool tables are in the same area as the the bowling alley. They should be the first thing you see.

Home experiences remind me a lot of my System Wars experiences. There's no real point to them other than to pass the time between the things you really want to be doing - or just need a break from them. But there's no dancing in System Wars ! *does the running man*

You need to put yourself in front of a plane and press one of the analogs in so it zooms! Planes are always available! You might need to move around a little though!

If you click play online on the levels people will hop in, or you'll hop into other people's games. Have you tried that?

hahaha that's so true when home was new we ran around with girls chars and had constantly 3-5 guys on us asking "where u from?"

what you should do is grab a friend and play LPB at home together, me and my friends always found others to play with online. Try to find someone playing and just set the option to follow him around while he's playing

Yeah Home isn't being utilized as a game launching system at all right now. It's just filled with idiots that want to chat and emote like they have never seen an MMO environment before.

I think the potential is still there for Home to be awesome. Gamers meeting up, discussing games, launching games together, with personalized game spaces, customizable apartments based on how high your PSN level is, you can display your trophies, stream music/movies to one another via your Home space.

The way it's actually being used is as a low-rent Second Life with 1/10th the features available and 10 times the marketing propaganda. I can handle the ads, I mean the whole service is free and the ads aren't intrusive anyway, but there is no excuse for how lame the community that uses it is. Maybe once people that have never heard of a Second Life type of concept get over the novelty it will find its legs.

Personally though as a gamer I never venture in there because I have an easy enough time launching games through the games lobbies themselves, and I know I'm not going to find anyone substantial to game with in Home. They need more features that go above and beyond simple lobby and matchmaking if they want to draw most of us in there. Right now it's cool for people who like it, but it's potential is being completely squandered.

Dude. I know what you mean. Even though Xbox Live does not have a place like Home where the masses can come together and communicate. The Xbox Live Party system is so much easier to make friends, andit only allows up to8 people in any given session. You can meet people at Home who "do" play videogames. But it just isn't that simple, ya know?

I'll admit that I hop onto Home all the time. There are many people who just use their PS3 to jump onto Home. And I'm being serious; especially with the girls there. At the same time it's not their console. What's disappointing is that Sony doesn't have an area for each exclusive they have, or even some of the more popular multiplatform games. To an extent you can go into the Warhawk area and find gamers to play. I figure this is a good way to create a team who uses headsets(which Sony really need to bundle a wired headset with the PS3) since there is always a Warhawk game going on.

I purchased LittleBigPlanet with certain expectations. One is online play and flippin' voice chatting.

Yeah exactly. The short version of my point is that I never touch Home for games because I don't need to. I think most people know that, and only go in there if they want to harass eachother.

Well maybe my experience was different because I played it right when it came out, but a lot of people had headsets and it took me like 30 seconds to fill a game of 4 with randoms.

Anyway I am on the fence about the whole headset thing. On one hand, it would be nice to hear more people communicating and cooperating. On the other hand, it would not be nice to hear more prepubescent boys shrieking curse words, people blasting T-Pain way too loud in hopes that his fellow teammates comment on how great his taste in music is, people arguing and whining and fighting and complaining and griefing and generally driving me to the brink of insanity.

If you could guarantee me that all these new headset-wielders would use their powers for good and not evil, I would be on board, but in my experience giving anonymous children a mic and some internets is asking for trouble. I am all for enforcing a filter on the mics where I don't hear what anyone is saying until their voices reach post-puberty levels. If the codec could just filter out annoying sounds I would be all for it.

but there IS soo much potential to home but ture indeed its being squandered by people who cant or dont have an outside life or by giys who cant get a date outside of home. id like to meet soneone whos about games and ACTUALLY WANTS TO PLAY THEM when i sign in to home and i thought thats what id find yesterday but im sure i wont fool myself into thinking that again. everytime i play xbl i find a potential friend, why is it soo hard to do on the psn...or at least on home since its FILLED with people who play games. i agree with you NeoGen having a game themed area would be FANTASTIC. you would know where to go when you want to play that game and youd always have someone to play with when youre ready. anyways about the headset i just used to headset i had for my phone since i had stopped using the headset a while ago. totally a great idea the ps3 is bluetooth

If the codec could just filter out annoying sounds I would be all for it.

i agree to an extent. i think they should make it available to all people out the box but....i think misuse of the mic should garuantee you a ban from said service at least in that particular game youre in....unfortunatly theres no way to track everyone who says something offensive in every game. and lets face it its not just the pubert kiddies are offensive some of these stinkin adults need to be muted more times than not...but usually the teens get targeted more.

Home may be crap, but tell that to all the people who use it, which I believe is over 4 million.

Its still a waste of time and resources. Give me more community features, and boards any day, other than a dull social networking service.
