yes they can compare, live makes you pay 50 bucks a year to play a 60 dollar game online while PSN you can play online for free and pay for additional content. They both add additional content PSN Plus just gives you a better deal with extra features while Live makes you pay for online

Well seeing as PSN already provides the service of being able to play online, I say you're right. PSN plus does not give people access to play online. PSN does :)

They both give additional content. The only thing psn+ does different is the 4 free games a month.

Xbox live , in MY opinion, is by far the best online gaming console service in history.

PSn is very nice, and I love no payments. To me, plus is a great deal, but it's gonna take more than free games that I already bought way back to get me to cough up the money

Live has nice things like cross chat and a proper invite system, but PSN+ is a good deal for new PS3 owners, since i have those psn games its useless for me.

Until I see the same funtionality on PSN as Xbox Live it will always be the weaker. They have a long way to go.

Live does plenty of things which PSN just doesn't do however. It's way too easy to say all it does is let you play games online but that's not really the case.

explain please matchmaking and...

the intergration has nothing to do with live that has to do with the user interface. so what else is there please enlighten us.

Integration is a valid point because the interface was clearly designed with the Xbox Live community in mind. The Community section is proof of this. So is the Party system which is accessible at the OS level and runs in the background no matter what you're doing. No need to fire up a whole separate app.

Speaking of which... to answer your question:

  • Cross-game invites - In my eyes, more important than cross-game chat. This isn't a simple text message either. No matter what you and your friends are doing on the console (playing different games, watching a movie, listening to music, whatever), I can send an invite. All a friend needs to do is open my message and click accept and he'll be pulled right into my session. This works consistently in all games.
  • Party system - Up to 8 friends can party up and launch into games together, again, no matter whateveryone is doing. Or you can stay in separate games and just chat. Much like the Halo 3 party system, but at the OS level as explained abvoe.
  • Community staff - They are both visible and accessible. From Major Nelson's news and shows, Trixie's organization of girl gamers, StepTo's policy enforcement to the community developer and ambassador programs. Their response to the MW2 javelin glitch is a prime example. Although the onus of the responsiblity was solely on the shoulders of Infinity Ward, MS went above and beyond by actively seeking out the exploiters and suspending them. StepTo made public statement almost immediately. Sony's response was from a nameless rep with flat statement that they don't plan on doing anything. One is an example of service. The other is the absence of service.
  • Community events - This isn't just the themed game nights on the Community Calendar. It's the Game With Fame, gaming with devs and my personal fave, Community PlayDate where I can game with people from a featured fan site. These events are easily seen, even if I'm not looking for it. Which brings me to....
  • Better integration of features - Each feature is fleshed out and thought it put into how one part affects another. This isn't the scattershot, half implemented approach we see from Sony. We need only look at achievements/trophies, integration with Xbox.com and Playstation.com as good examples of this. It translates into the ease by which you can interact with the rest of the community as explained above.

PSN will ALWAYS be better than LIVE because it allows anyone to connect with others for FREE. Online gaming is to game online and to connect with other which PSN does it for FREE.

It has everything to do with Live because it's built in to the OS. Everything works at an OS level across ALL games. It's a unified service, not a patchwork of features which work with varying degress of effectiveness.

you get more for paying for live but you get more for free on the psn. simple as that. and on that note i say i refuse to pay for live as long as my ps3 does the only real important thing about gaming online for free and thats just playing online i dont need the extra stuff. because ive tried it for a year and never again will i pay $50 a year to play online

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony start taking out stuff from the regular PSN to make PSN+ look more attractive. I'm thinking they will just make the PSN very basic and the only feature that would remain is playing games online. I've seen many say just as long they get to free online then that's fine with them and won't pay for PSN+. So I'm thinking that's all they're going to get.
