Windows Live, Gamespy, Steam, Xfire, Direct2drive, Steam, gogcom, Bnet, Bnet 2.0 and dozens of servers for mmos and private games and other services which are connect to the games compare to one master service like PSN. No body could do such a serious damage to an open gaming platform like the PC. It has no owner and thats best thing of the platform.

PC's need alot of maintenance, there are goods and bads of any gaming console or machine. Yes Steam is alot better then PSN but there are alot of games and features that someone would love more then what a PC gives them.

Be careful-- the Xbox fanboys said the same thing, and now there are hackers all over Xbox Live. :?

None of those services are impenetrable. Especially not BNET accounts.

I think he means if one gets targeted there's still plenty of other services to fall back on. For example if Bnet goes down I can still play CS.

It's already like that for pc though, always been people trying to get account info / credit card info. Our online is just much more robust and for stupid people it's extremely dangerous :D, like idiots falling for obvious wow related scams.

Why do people say something like this and never bother to explain?

Nope - just installed 6 new updates for Windows 7 64-bit...hackers stopped in their tracks, unlike consoles.:P

PCs on the whole have anti-virus and firewalls running, I doubt consoles have anything that can compare.

Hackers don't really matter because the admins can just ban them.

And I like the openness of pc as well.

Not really. I remembered when Left 4 Dead 2 launched, logging onto Steam was damn near impossible. I also had a situation a year ago when (I'm guessing here) Steam either shut down their servers, or was under maintenance...couldn't log in, and when I tried to check up my games, my whole list disappeared for a day (and every game I had installed on my computer got erased). I was going to contact customer service in the morning, until the program worked great the next day...I just had to re-download everything I had . Point is, even PC gaming has the same kind of flaws consoles do, maybe just not as frequently...but they do occur once in a while.

hackers have and always will be part of online gaming. Taking down multiple systems is much harder and time consuming than a single system. Plus only steam and windows live have significant amount of personal information, most is just usernames and emails. One system goes down you just go and use another one.
