I love the way people think MS is just going to sit on thier asses and not update Xbox Live with new features while the PS3 does. Everytime PSN gains a new feature, so will Xbox Live. First major update coming this spring.

XBL gets 2 Major updates twice a year, Spring & Fall. So we will see what we get this year, i know this Fall will include IPTV.

I remember back in the day when MK was causing so much controversy because of the violence featured in the game. Felt great when my uncle bought me a copy for x-mas even though I was very young at the time. Too bad it was the whack snes version that featured no blood!!!! Booooooo!

MK II, my personal favorite of the bunch. I will enjoy playing this online and for only 4.99. Sounds good to me. Thanks for the info.

Yep...XNA.

"The XNA team is proud to announce the availability of the 1.0 release of XNA Game Studio Express and the XNA Framework, aimed at helping students and hobbyists build games for Windows and the Xbox 360. This release supports both Windows game development and Xbox 360 development (subscription to the XNA Creators Club is required in order to run XNA-based games on the Xbox 360)  "

I know that Xbox Live has some classic games but do not usually feature any enhancements. DaddyDC650

Do we want enhancements? For me I perfer to play them the way they were meant to be played. Excally the same. The only imporvement I would only want is better framerate than original and higher resolution.

but they sell for around 10 bucks and do not usually feature any enhancements.

DaddyDC650

All old games on XBLA feature quite an excellent array of enhancements. High-resolution, graphical updates, achievements and online play. And as much as I enjoyed MK II, I'm happier to have UMK3.

No it will NOT hold an edge, not by a long short. The XBOX 360 has Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate! It should cost more then MK2. IT HAS ONLINE! IT HAS LEADER BOARDS (does the PS3 have those for MK2???), and ACHIEVEMENTS (which PS3 games will never have, owned).

Depends.

Arcade cab montitors have higher resolutions than different TV's (and their are varying degrees of resolution increases in cab monitors as time went on as well,) so running these games in a higher definition makes more sense.

Like Smash TV Live for example, it's optimized for HD TV and it looks perfect.

As for games like SotN (that ran on standard def TV sets in the home,) I believe they will offer both the enhanced version and original version if you don't like the look of the new one.

Still, I don't know what the TC is talking about, all the Live multi games have been made online and given the same enhancements.

sony needs more good news like this, especially with the announcment that the european PS3's will be partially gimp compared to the american and japanese ones.

i was never really in to the mortal kombat series that much but i use to rent the games back when i had an snes. i liked mk 2 more than the other ones though. idk what it was... it seemed darker than the other ones. like mk1 was ok but it was too plain because it was the first game. mk3 didn't have the same magic that 2 had. mk2 online would truely be an awesome thing especially if it includes all the levels.

oh yea and baraka was f****** awesome!

They're HD optimized with leaderboards and acheivments, and on the games that originally had mutliplayer or were intended for multiplayer they're given online play.

Haha, Yeah, Dig Dug. You got me. The original Dig Dug where you had to wait for the player to finish completely and then trade off turns was in fact removed. Be that as it may, THE GAME IS STILL ENHANCED (acheivments, HD, etc.)

You said they "usually" don't have the enhancements. Other than the removal of Dig Dug's bad primitive multiplayer, that's is 100% false. The games feature the enhancements 99% of the time.

Yes - ALL of the games are enhanced.

The fact that the bad multi was taken out of Dig Dug (OH NO! DIG DUG's terrible wait 'n play multi!) is an ultra rare exception.

This url does not list it with online play, which worries me because all the reports listed that it would have online support enabled.  I hope this is just something they left out on the overview.  This is going to be HUGE if its online enabled.

Yes I was wrong to type that not all of the games featured enhancements but you were also wrong about how all the classic games had online functionality. Who cares really. Let's get back on topic please.

I know, it's a silly argument - but I never said all of the games had multi, just that they were all enhanced.

To tell you the truth I didn't even know Dig Dug was multi originally (I thought it was an old 1p ColecoVision game,) I just assumed all of the old games that were originally multi had it, because I hadn't found one that hasn't (I didn't get Dig Dug though, so that's why.)

Yep...XNA.

"The XNA team is proud to announce the availability of the 1.0 release
of XNA Game Studio Express and the XNA Framework, aimed at helping
students and hobbyists build games for Windows and the Xbox 360
. This
release supports both Windows game development and Xbox 360 development
(subscription to the XNA Creators Club is required in order to run XNA-based games on the Xbox 360)  "

Decidedly more limited than what I understand the PSN is doing. BTW, Sony was doing that kind of stuff ages before Microsoft..Net Yaroze anyone?

What do you think XNA is about. And where did Sony ever say they would support user generated content and even if they did could it be another Sony lie?Nugtoka

Didn't recall XNA, it was hardly an original idea in any case, Sony has been doing it for over ten years now, so its at least going to have something like that. Regarding your question though...

"As for online, it's true -- we are at stage one of what will be a very different approach to online vs. the competition. Right now, our biggest difference is that we are free, right out-of-the box, and beyond that, we are working on exciting, online initiatives encompassing user-generated content and virtual marketplaces, that the competition can't offer. We'll be giving more detail around these strategies during GDC, so stay tuned."

Its not a lie because we already know theres going to be User Generated Content on Singstar: PS3 User Generated Content

Um, they already have that...XNA Creator......
Tulak_Hord

Sony has had that for more than ten years, that is if you consider that User Generated Content...its would be more accurate to call it an "Amateur Developer Toolkit" in any case, its not like anybody just can just post up whatever game they care to, theres an approval process and subscription fee to the service in addition to XBL.

[QUOTE="zero9167"] no because xbla already has UMK3 with online :|

Which was on the SNES, Genesis, and Saturn to begin with, and SoTN was on PS1..OMG MICROSOFT COPIES!!! :|

Does PSN have any new arcade games like Ultra Marble Blast for the 360? Probably not!

I remember back in the day when MK was causing so much controversy because of the violence featured in the game. Felt great when my uncle bought me a copy for x-mas even though I was very young at the time. Too bad it was the whack snes version that featured no blood!!!! Booooooo!DaddyDC650

funny stuff right there.. lol
