I really think Sony's gameplan on having the best technology for a console backfired , the system is $599.99 usd and much more expensive in the european front .i truly believe this will be their main bottleneck this gen .

It'll definetely lose to the DS, not sure if it will lose to the Wii yet. Brand recognition is a powerful force. Just ask anyone who's bought a Ford in the last 30 years.

Well, PSP was a hanheld, but it did prove that the playstation brand was not invincible. So I would say it's kinda neutral.

I think Sony is making profit out of PSP now, they might lost the war to the top. But the PSP sure as hell is not a bad decision.

I don't think it's quite the same situation as a car company. Ford owns many other companies, so in a sense when you buy either a Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Lincoln or a Land Rover, part of that is still going to the Ford Motor Company. So I don't think there is much brand relationship in that example.

I reckon the PS3 will lose to the Wii in the end. The little guy is definitely a force to be reckoned with and is proving to be a juggernaut in Japan thus far.

Oh and about the PSP, it did and is still doing well for Sony's first handheld. It stole quite a bit of marketshare from nintendos handheld market. I dont think the PSP failed, it just sold less than the DS. If thats what you call failing , then oh well.

The main thing why sony is losing is the Price. People want a PSP but it cost to much.

What, you've never heard a pickup truck owner say "I'm a Chevy guy" or "I'm a Ford man"? Brand loyalty exists in every market.

This may have been Sony's first foray into the portable GAMES business, but this is not their first handheld device. Sony has had plenty of experience in this field, this was not a one-off by some upstart; this was a huge conglomerate trying to expand their influence. And by comparison, yes, it has failed. But this is a DS/PS3 thread.

Of course. But i'm just saying though that with the way the Ford Motor Company is structured, it's not quite the same situation as the self-focused Sony empire. It's like comparing a family to just one man.

I don't think compairing someones loayality to a car company and a major investment like a car, to a video game console. I don't think there is as much brand loyalty as you think with video games, most gamers just want a good system with good games, and something that isnt to expensive. PS3 is expensive and has no good games now, so people don't want it now.

Most carbuyers just want a good, reliable car. However, among those people, there are people who will buy a car because of its blue oval or whathaveyou.

That may be true of Sony's game division, but they're a huge company. And when you're buying a Columbia/Tristar movie, or a BMG record, you're buying a Sony product.

Um nooooo you are completely wrong they would need about 10-13 million so you are about 7-10 mill off. Ds has sold about 38 Million that includes the ds lite, and the psp has sold about 24-25 million psp. Do your homework

What concept of time do you have when the competition is creating new IPs, cashing in on seasoned franchises, and giving gamers what they want now, GAMES?!? How can you sit back and tell people to be patient with a straight face full of optimism? No bashing here, just a real question from one gamer to another...

Handhelds and Systems are WAY different. Nintendo has always destroyed any handheld competition. Sony has always destroyed any System Competition.

Finally someone with brains (no sarcasm).

And Nintendo is probably very pissed that Sony took a big chunk of their market and also third party developers.

I think that the reason the DS was so good is because it was creative (the whole touch screen system) - the wii followed in those creative footsteps. PSP however, didn't show anything that was really new... Actually, i don't really use my PSP as a console - more as an ipod // video player.
