Either buy both if you have enough$$$ or else check out the game libraries and some up coming releases and see which one suits you taste in games/ hand-held games. Also check out Drawn to Life.

Buy both if you can, but if you can only get one, get a DS.

I'd recommend Mario Kart, Pokemon, and Zelda when it comes out.

If you like Sonic games, buy the DS (Sonic Rush is the best Sonic in years); if not, buy the DS for all the Marios, Metroid, Castlevanias, and Zelda (when it comes out)

The DS IMO has a lot better games. The only reason i liked my PSP was becuase i hacked the crap out of it becuase the games arnt worth the money you pay.

The DS is quite possibly the best puzzle console of all time, which make for great handheld experiences.

It also has a very nice 2d platforming selection, 2d adventures, some very good jrpgs (with many more on the way), some excellent strategy games, some very good sims, one of the best rhythm games ever made (EBA), one good FPS (with potential for others, but devs don't seem to be jumping on that one with much fervor at the moment), and a ton of other games that you could probably fall in love with, but would never expect it, just because you've never played anything like it before.

Already got 2 DSs, including the crimson covered one, looks real slick.

I'm aiming to get the PSP.  You guys did see the PSP 2000?  It got an Editor's choice over at CNET.

My killer app is going to FF7:Crisis Core.

Get a DS. The PSP doesn't have much to offer in terms of addictive games. Try Elite beat agents, its really good.

PSP = better graphics, better online, and in myopinion better games, plus it can do tons of stuff the DS can't.

DS = fancy stylus and teh touch screen.

hence the error in judging a platform soley on the NUMBER of AAA's and AA's. (plus; aren't they equal in AAA's here? the original quoter makes it sound like it has more of both)

Especially when someone is asking which of the two he hsould buy, not which one is "better by system wars, a forum, standards".

to the topic creator. It really depends on your taste. Normally, i would recomend the DS over the PSP, especially now since a PSP redesign is on the way it would be crazy to buy the older model! I've found the DS to have a much greater variety of good and great games, including a number of excellent games you just can't find anywhere else(like hotel dusk).

To be fair, the DS has more AAA and AA exclusive titles.

A another thing to think about is if you have a PS3 now or may get one later you can access it via remote play on the PSP from any internet hot spot on the planet. Most of the PS1 games will play on it via remote play as well. When HOME is released there may be a lot more features added to remote play.

The PSP has 32 mb of system memory, and now the slim one has 64 mb. I saw some people making a big deal out of this, but if you save your games on the stick... what does the system memory do?

That's RAM, not storage space.

It's RAM, used to make games run faster and lower loading times.

Ahhh, thanks guys. I am not sure exactly how much the extra 32mb will speed things up, but it's nice they did. Gamespot's take on loading times seemed a bit better.

bulletmath

you know just because you didnt like the PSP doesnt mean other people wont it, thats the problem with system wars, the system whith most users wins the threads, wheater they are right or no

Anyway ill try making a list for you as unbiased as possible i´ll tell you for front that i own a PSP

DS (lite):

Pros:

cheaper than the PSP

2 screens one of them a touch screen

Inovative controls (the touc screen part)

Great and famous franchises like mario or zelda

more exclusives AAA than the PSP

lots of new famous franchises like brain training and pheonix wright

CONS:

Some people consider its games childish (mostly because there´s no GTA games or god of war and stuff like that)

net play inferior to the PSP (sorry guys but the friends codes and stuff makes it inferior better get my flame shield on)

fewer exclusives AA games than the PSP

processor power and graphical power inferior to the PSP

PSP (slim) :

PROS:

Wide screen (its basically do you want 2 screens or a big one? except one of the 2 screens is a touchscreen)

Techninally superior to the DS

more EXCLUSIVE (no ports no remakes here) AA games then the DS

Allows homebrew and emulation

there´s always new official sony firmwares that give the PSP new functionalitys

media straming like music, movies and photos

great franchised like GTA syphon filter and metal gear solid

CONS:

more expensive then the DS

you will need to buy memory card for the music, movies, emulation, homebrew

psp games have loadings DS dont

many of its games are PS2 ports

Fewer exclusives and not exclusives AAA then the DS

DS, its just fun and cheap. It tries to be different and it does, even used to say touch screen will never work...guess they were wrong.

The PSP has some great games but it tried to hard to be a multi entertainment system. And you got UMD movies £2 cheaper than the DVD version, ported PS2 games £5 cheaper than the PS2 version.

i find it quite sad that POSP fanboys cant accept that their handheld flopped. You dont hear dreamcast or Gamecube fanboys crying but the little kids that bought the PSP are always in tears

it's pathetic

Both have great game. But when it comes to games, it is your personal taste. DS games are more simple, less dept. PSP games are similar to ps2 like silent hill, FF 7, god of war...
