DS: Long battery life, short load times, good portability, decent games
PSP: Short battery life, long load times, bad portability, insanely good games
EDIT: DS: bad graphics, good control
      PSP: good graphics, bad control
The PSP's flaws are that its a handheld that loads and has a weak battery. Other than that (and the crappy excuse for a analog) it's a great machine.
Â
DS on the other hand, has the flaw of limited RAM (which can be fixed with an expansion in the GBA slot ala N64), but is phenominal in it's almost limitless design potential... the Touch screen was an ingenious addition and the innovative software that sold it paved the way for a whole bunch of great traditional software.
im leaning towards the psp, but tell me some things that are good about the ds.canucks_luongo1
You have just read posts claiming DS > PSP, yet you are now leaning towards the PSP.....
I feel there is nothing more you can be told. DS is by far the better by. PERIOD.

EVIDINCE. Need evidence.Â
Tomorrow am i going to trade in my psp for a ds lite. So i have reading extensively on the two systems for about a month to make sure i am doing the right thing. The reason i am returning my psp is simple:
1) i have an ipod .. so why do i need the music part
2) same as first reason .. dont need the video
3) the internet browser is nice but it loads slow and i could just go on the computer ...
4) No games interest me, why you ask. Well when i think of a portable system its something i wanna play while: in a car, relaxing on my bed or couch, or playing at school. (before i go on i need to say this. PSP games are more for serious gamers that want hardcore games with nice graphics. DS games are simple yet extremely fun games, the graphics may not be the best, but that doesnt take away from the fun.) Now, with the psp, if i wanna play hardcore games and go online and try to be the best i am going to want to be sitting up paying strict attention to the small screen. I found that extremely unjoyable. If i wanted to go all out on hardcore games i would play my 360: bigger screen, better controls, nicer graphics, etc. The DS, from what i have seen and read, is a system you can just have plain fun with. I could see myself just relaxing on my couch having fun playing a game, even if im online.
Another thing i noticed is that people who favor the psp usually have either a 360, or a ps3. (Now that puzzles me, why would you want the same games you could have on the system, only watered down for the psp) The people who favor the DS usually have a wii. (Now this i can see why, the ds has totally different games than the wii)
So thats why i will be trading in my psp for the DS tomorrow and i am totallty set with my decision. I tried to be as unbiased as possible and i hope that this post was helpful. But the most important thing you have to remember is, these are just other peoples opinions along with some facts, you have to get what you want. Not get what other people want.
Both are good, but I prefer the PSP by far.
PSP has a few more problems due to it being a much more advanced handheld, but after you get past those problems I enjoy over the DS more; it's the best handheld ive ever had.
i got both. PSP for me.
DS to me is a great MULTIPURPOSE device. it's funny, the PSP was supposed to be all about that. the thing is, i got some puzzle games and a few others, but i really use my DS for other things. like BRAIN TRAINING. i even have a japanese dictionary on the thing. i rarely use it for games.
the PSP has funner games IMO. and they're prettier too.
DS>PSP
PSP with homebrew capabilities>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DS
I hated my psp, until I found that it can play PSX,N64,SNES,GBA,MSX,Sega,Atari, play yoyur music while playing a game, take pictures/video whats happeing on the screen, read txt files, hold a ton of games on a single memory stick, etc.
The PSP was absolutely a horrible piece of crap until I got homebrew.
But since sony is desperately trying to stop homebrew...
state your opinions on what you think is better, because im about to buy one of them. i just want to know the good things and bad things about both of themcanucks_luongo1i have both and there both worthy of a purchase Sony is getting more support for Jrpg and Turn Based Strategy games, Disgaea,FF tactics are coiming soon and those will be awsome. the DS is very portable friendly so if you plan on playing something on the go more then thats what you should get. if you plan on playing the system in your house more the PSP is the choice. the Online for PSP is 100X better in fact setting up the PSP was so easy it only needed the SSID and it can connect but the DS is so touchy you have to manually enter the settings for most wireless routers i think Nintendo did this so for those who can't get it to work will buy there WIFI adapter wich worked for me then i set up my Wireless to not use it and felt stupid for buying the adapter for 40. but there both good depends on what types of games you wanna play.
how can we even call the psp a handheld? it doesn't fit it your pocket!prozack28
Not all of us wear super tight jeans that attract the wrong kind of men.Â
DS, It offeres a different experience than what you usually get on consoles and the games are better overall.
PSP tries to be a portable console but it fails miserably since most of the games look , control and load worse than on consoles which make the system pointless IMO.
PSP myths:
Battery life is poor....
Depends on what you're doing. With games you can get from 3-7 hours of gaming on brightest settings (depending on game intensity). The DS can get about 5-9 on the brightest setting (also dependent on game intensity). When I use the PSP for music, I can get 10-12 hours out of it.
PSP has no original games, or games that can be found on the console...
"original games" like Nintendogs, Advance Wars, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright (some say this is original even though it's a port from the GBA in Japan), Elite Beats.... some of those original games have or will have a PSP counterpart.
Advance Wars = Field Commander
Phoenix Wright = Harvey Birdman (yet to come)
Elite Beats = DJ Portable Max (different kind of gameplay, but very similar type of game)
The only other two original games that I listed are Trauma Center and Nintendogs, but if you go by the "why play a game on a handheld when you can play the console version?", then you'd have to throw out Trauma Center out of that list. The only original game is Nintendogs.... hmm...
Lumines (for a time), Mercury Meltdown (for a time), Cube, Crush (yet to come), Jean D'Arc (yet to come), Final Fantasy VII:CC(yet to come), SWAT (yet to come, dunno if it will be any good though), Pursuit Force, EXIT, Ultimate Block Party, WTF, Gurumin, Field Commander, Sid Meier's Pirates, Daxter, Killzone: Liberation, Metal Gear Acid series, Tokobot, Loco Roco are all examples of games that cannot be found on a current or last gen console. The only problem is if these games have no appeal to you (that would be your opinion, which I cannot argue).
Load times suck on the PSP
In comparison to the DS, yes. On a number of games, yes. Some games have short load times. It's too easy to generalize, but a lot of people will just look at the really bad games and say that ALL PSP games have load times just as bad.
PSP games are more expensive than the DS
From this link: http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/04/09/psp-games-not-much-more-expensive-than-ds-games/
The average cost of a PSP game is $29.89, only $2 more than the DS average of $27.29.
EB Games lists 102 new games for the Nintendo DS and 94 new games for the PSP. There's no games for PSP? Incorrect.
The median game price for each system is $29.99
About 33% of all PSP games retail for under $25. (DS has about 41%.)

Not all of us wear super tight jeans that attract the wrong kind of men.
Not all of us wear super loose baggy pants either.
My coat, which fits my wallet fine, holds my PSP perfectly.Â
Well I'm getting a PSP for Silent Hill: Origins and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, since I'm getting a little tired of Mario games, as well as Pokemon(well, only some Pokemon games) and playing as a laywer doesn't seem to appeal to me. Elite Beat Agent is cool though, since some kid I know plays it all the time on my busride home. Who do you call when there is an unknown alein race terrorizing our beloved planet Earth? The military? Hell no! You call ELITE BEAT AGENTS!Toaster_Cell
DS has the better portable library. PSP is basically a little console, which isn't a good thing since the Playstation 2 already does all of that.Lilac_Benjie
are you just saying that because you're just following what the sheep have been saying, or do you know this for a fact? I can name so many DS games that have a similar experience on a console.
