If you worried about your new portable's battery life......Sony has an answer.Yoshida-san,president of SCEO Worldwide, confirms an external battery.

"Sony's focus for TGS 2011 has undoubtedly been the upcoming launch of the PlayStation Vita. During its pre-show conference, the publisher revealed that the battery life for the new portable will last somewhere between 3 and 5 hours during normal gaming usage.

For some gamers, that amount of battery life is unacceptable. Fortunately Sony is preparing an answer. In our interview with SCEA Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, we finally received confirmation that Sony is in fact developing an external battery for the Vita.

Personally if I was angry about the battery life and needed more I wouldn't want to carry around an external battery pack in order to play it. Unless I'm in a car or plane.

I hope this means third parties can make their own batteries.

So will it be like that Rechargeable Dock thing that they have for the 3DS that you wear on your wrist or something?

I can't imagine that happening because the vita has a back touchpad. Now unless this battery also has one I wonder how it would look like. Come tomthink of it, I'm pretty sure they have pictures of it from all those peripheral they showed. I think I'll have a look.

True, but I mean I 5 hours is long enough to be able to go out on the town, play your vita and then return home and charge it. I don't see the huge fuss to be honest, especially when Sony is packing a PS3 into that tiny little handheld.

Well, at least there's going to be a Extended Battery Option.

I'm happy with the current estimated battery life, but an external battery option is very welcome for those long car trips.

wonder if it'll be pricey, and if Nyko will make a cheaper one like they did for the 3DS

Cool, I guess. Unless the thing makes it weigh over five pounds, I think I wouldn't mind the extra boost :D.

How can we forget piracy.? The first one could be hack using the battery, and downgrade as well using just the battery.

I remember when the PSP came out I used to visit the Sony website forums all the time, and I remember horror stories about some of those third party batteries blowing up, and stuff :P Sounds scary. I don't think I'd ever go with a third party electronic accessory for any of my game systems.

yup, that along with the new vita exclusive memory cards, I think they are hoping to prevent widespread piracy like on the PSP.

I'm already happy with the battery life, 3-5 hours constantly gaming is enough for me. It's not like I have that much time when I'm outside anyway. :P
