First high selling and high scoring RPG this gen maybe? Persona 4 is the only AAA console RPG (as far as I know) since this gen started, but its a last-gen game. The RPG genre certainly does not need saving though, there have certainly been less titles then last-gen when I typically had a great RPG to play every 3-6 months, but I'll live. The RPG genre has some good titles available and upcoming, but we could still use more.
I just don't see how FFXIII will change things. It will sell really well and will probably be amazing to play, but what will it do?

I think the JRPG genre could use some new ideas - the whole town dungeon town dungeon with tons of battles and sterile npcs in between is getting a little stale. Vyyral
Haha. I hate that, especially when a game doesn't live up to your expectations. You find your self trying to complete a story, only to be burden with poor dungeons that waste time. From what I read about the cost system and Final Fantasy XIII it just makes combat more cinematic. It also adds a touch to turn-base combat when making a strategic decision.

110million
Well I figured that, but what exactly will that do for the market of RPGs?
I guess it is more of a question to the people who wrote the article because most of us here think the genre doesn't need saving.
I am going to say the JRPG genre in the States is dead. Maybe i am just not caring, but i am not hearing about all that amazing stuff about any JRPG other than FF (which i am not a fan of anyway). IMO, Western RPGs is where it is at.PEELEDbananaI think its more that you are not caring, although the bulk of my favorite RPGs have been on handhelds this generation, so maybe that is telling.
JRPGs are sagging a bit. It would be nice if they would try and shake things up a touch....heretrixAgreed. [QUOTE="TheOwnerOner"]JPRpg is dead, RPGs in general, NO Ditto. At least for me.
