Punch-Out is Nintendo's most criminally neglected franchise

I know there's a bunch of others that people can think of, but when it comes to being consistent across the board, these games are a blast. I think it should be up there with their top franchises because the design is so timeless and perfect. Not only are the characters funny and full of flair, the joy comes from figuring out the boxers' patterns until you eventually find ways to take them down faster and faster. It doesn't get old.

It was fifteen years between Super Punch-Out and Punch-Out Wii. Now, who knows when they'll attempt another one. There really should be one per gen. Hate to see Little Mac regulated to being a Smash character for the rest of his existence only. I know Punch-Out Wii only sold just over a million or so, but they shouldn't let this series be down for the count.

Not sure how compatitable a new release would be with Nintendo's development culture.

Nah, that would be Mario Strikers.

Been going back and playing the nes one and it's still addictive and satisfying. So simple yet so perfect <3

Boxing itself hasn't been irrelevant in years after Mike Tyson left. If there were to be a new Punch-Out game, I assume they'll use Floyd Mayweather over Mike Tyson.

^lol, what is this bot doing here?

I'd say F-zero is their most neglected franchise.

I disagree. Punch-Out had a Wii game.

That's more like it.

Punch-Out is pretty fun, but it's also really simple. It feels more like a mini game than a full fledged game to me.

Mario Strikers was unexpectedly awesome. Thought the GC game was better than the Wii game, though. I'd love a new one.

@R4gn4r0k: Never heard about it, sadly. Looks fun. Seems like Strikers took cues from it.

For me I would say either Earthbound/Mother or StarTropics.

Only one Punch-Out game has ever had a celebrity. The games are fun because they're not anything like real boxing. Next Level did a great job with the last game, but they're on Luigi duty now.

They should develop one on a low budget and sell it on the eshop for $20. It would do very well that way.

@PurpleMan5000: yeah I would gobble up a lot of their just-for-fun games through that model.

Hell, I would be all over a "Wii Sports Switch" (I'm sure there's some 3rd party analog but I'd rather Nintendo fed me more of their formula)

Couple of fun boxing games in VR, tiring as hell though. 20 minutes you're fucked. Really makes you appreciate the stamina of real fighters.

The problem is the concept is too specific and doesn't really have anywhere to go. You can vary up the fighters Mac goes against, but any tweaks to the core formula and you're either going full into a boxing game or full into a rhythm game.

It's like Pokemon in that sense. Pokemon games where you don't throw balls and accrue a wide assortment of monsters while training your core team, don't sell even remotely as well. But Pokemon is far more successful so they can afford to branch out and be weird with it.

@Archangel3371: Tbf with Earthbound the creator chose to end it as a trilogy. Poor Star Tropics though, both games are great. I imagine the second didnt sell well for obvious reasons plus it's weird how it's a Japanese game not released in Japan.

Nah it's F-Zero. That franchise could have so much more stuff be done with it, and it's been shelved for so long. Punch Out's punch out. That game is solved as hell.

@Litchie: I think Nintendo hired the developer of Sega Soccer Slam to make Strikers.

Anyway, Punchout is great but such a simple game. One a generation seems unnecessary. I'd say once a decade at the most, and make it a cheap e-shop game.

Nah at least punchout had a Wii release and the classics get brought to VC fairly early/quickly. F-zero, Advanced wars, or Geist would be better suggestions.

Funny thing about it is he is arguably the worst character in Smash Bros Ultimate. At least Capt Falcon gets respect on that front.

I never got into them but I respect then. I think F-Zero is now far more neglected.
