If and when Bluray emerges the format of choice, how will PS3 compare to other BR Players in terms of functionality and price?

Good question. We all know as technology gets older, it usually gets cheaper, more compact, more efficient, and overall better. If B-R dominates the HD video market, I can see cheaper, faster players. At the he point when the BR player alone is cheaper, than the PS3, I can see that creating a problem for the PS3 as a B-R player. Unless the price of the PS3 drops as well, the lure of it being a cheap B-R player will fade away. But that isn't all bad for sony, as long as B-R becomes a dominant force in the HD disc market, they still make royalties on each B-R disc and player sold.

IF blu ray is the format of choice, by that time br players will be cheap. so i figure ps3 gamers would end up buying a blu ray player to play movies. but that is just my opinion .

I have 3 Bluray movies and they are awesome. PS3 is the best bet for HD movie viewing. No matter how things turn out you always have an HD gaming console to fall back on.

It's a great player for most people's HD needs.  It does have some limitations compared to other stand alones in that it can't upscale DVD's, can't play 1080p/24 video, and a few others. Â
