Question about PS5 vs XSX

So, the XSX is more powerful. That's a given. All I know is that there is a teraflop difference. If the power difference comes down to some other metric, then please enlighten me. Or don't. Up to you. Doesn't really matter either way. For the majority of Sony's history they've had the underpowered console yada yada yada done fine yada yada yada.

The point of this thread is to clear up some confusion, if at all possible. I meant to make this thread like last week but was too busy lounging on a lawn chair in my backyard. I was also watching these two lover squirrels chase each other up and down the old oak.

Question: what is the actual power difference between the PS5 and XSX? There has been so much going back and forth with crazy spec talk that I'm dizzy. I keep hearing that the difference in power is small....but then at the same time I keep hearing that it's HUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!!! DUDE SO HUUUUUUUUUGE!!!!! PS5 IS DOA TCHBO!!!!!!

Anyhoo. Can somebody please clear this up for a non-tech type of person? Is the power difference indeed small, or is it HUUUUUUUUGE!!!!!!.....or perhaps somewhere in between?

As a side note, at the beginning of this gen this board was rampant with claims (read: lemming claims) that the difference of power between the base PS4 and base XB1 was so minimal it was practically non-existent. I've come to determine that the claim was sort of true. There wasn't much difference, after all. Anyway, I've heard yet more talk that the power difference between the PS5 and XSX is smaller than what it was between the PS4 and XB1. Is this really true? And if so, well, you get the drift. Exaggeration-nation up in here.

Isn't that cute. A Sony fanny stressing about power difference. The reality of how much of difference in power between the two is unknown and will be for a while. So, you have several months to be sleepless at night over the power difference between the two systems. The funny part of it all is that regardless of the outcome no sane gamer is gaming with the other console in mind. Key word is sane. :) So, why do people care? Because they are losers and I like making fun of losers.

Doesn’t Digital Foundry have some sort of comparison/analysis video on this that has already most likely been posted here? I would imagine that something like that would be your best bet on getting that kind of information instead of from the people here.

Ultimately what matters are the games. Minor variances shouldn't be the metric to picking your system.

You shouldn't care. At the end of the day you are going to game on the PS5 regardless of the power difference. So, why bother about silly things like this?

Now onto the less interesting subject. Power gap is under 20% going by the specs, smaller than PS4 / XOne gap, way smaller than PS2 / Xbox gap. Relatively small then.

The difference is so small, you may wonder what this fuss is all about???

Going by the Tflps metric, 15.46 difference is the smallest gap ever.

At the end of the day what will matter is their price and GAMES!!!

All the rest is SW material, and you shouldn't pay much attention to it.

Go where the games you play will be, consoles are meant for that not some fancy power numbers!!!

You don't know the base clocks of one nor do we know the actual performance of either systems to make ANY claim of how much faster one will be over the other. Simplifying things to TFLOPS of the GPU while ignoring other factors is just silly. The only thing that is absolutely certain is that one is faster than the other.

That is all. Anyone spewing ANY percentage is really just speculating without any real data.

EDIT: As I have said before, it doesn't really matter to the gamer that owns one of the two.

The rest of the architecture is almost similar with a faster ssd on sony's machine.

Overcomplexity is also silly.

One is faster, sure. But not that much!!!

Going to have to wait until these systems are out and actually playing games to get that real world data.

Do you know the base clocks of the PS5? Are you factoring the slower CPU? Are factoring other features like VRS? Are factoring performance difference with Ray tracing? The fact still remains that you DO NOT know the real world power difference. Stop pretending like you do or that it can be simplified with TFLOPS ratio.

Watched a tech video last night that was saying the PS5 will be the better machine because of I/O speeds or something like that. On paper there seems to be a small difference in teraflops, and a huge difference in SSD speed. In real life each console will have certain advantages over the other.

Your asking in the wrong place,SW crowns a ‘Winner’ by sales,so if you have a gtx 2080 ti and it hasn’t sold as many as the PS4 then your poor old graphics card just doesn’t cut the mustard..unbelievable right? Well it has been stated several times it’s all about the sales HAH

You do not know the real world performances either, so stop pretending that we cannot guess estimate from what we know : what we can expect.

Why would you post this here of all places...lmao. Your question was to know what the actual power difference was between the two? No way to actually know until games are being shown; specifically 3rd party games as you'll see how developers are able to work with both consoles and see how much they can get from the two.

It seems to be about 20% or so if you want just a simple percentage difference. I would say how the Xbox One X is now over the Playstation 4 Pro.

I thought you were getting a PC though and/or the Playstation 5 cause of VR?

@dagubot: I am getting a PC. Build is ready to go, just have to buy it, which I'm waiting on until I'm off freaking lockdown. And yeah, I'm definitely going PS5/PSVR2 as well. I was curious about the PS5 vs SXS power thing because I'm trying to learn more about the tech side of things. Getting into PC gaming is really showing me how much I have to learn. But I get what you're saying. We need actual games to base things off of. Makes sense.
