First off, I own all the system and this is a simple math question.
360 has sold 17 million systems, we can all agree on this.
16% RROD rate so that makes it 2,720,000 360s with RROD.
Is it just me or does this look to high?
kaos-hero
It's just you...because it is actually too low. The failure rate is not 16%. That 16% is the number of customers one single company has who experienced a faulty 360 and used their warranty. It does not track all 360 owners in that region, it does not track all 360 owners, it does not track how many had more than one failure. It does not track the number of customers who just went directly to MS because of an RROD issue.
I guarantee that for the time being, the number is higher than 16%.
They put aside 1 billion $$ for repairs,
and, one of their own showcase systems died at GDC,
I have pictures of my RROD, wanna see them?

I believe RROD has hit GDC twice now.

It's not simple math, the 16% rate was determined out of a sample of 1000, not 17 million

A lot of them RRoD more than once. They break you ship it in it's refurbished it breaks again and the process repeats. If you take that into acount the number of TIMES they break is a lot more than the actual number of systems that have Ringed. Probably 4 or 5 times that amount
it's too high, ofcourse. but no reason not to buy one. gamers that use this as an excuse are no gamers or just lack the money to buy one.

Oh man. Don't tell me that after 7 years of lemmings bashing the PS2...now the 360 has a DRE failure? Lol. Wow.
around 70 of the 80+ ppl on my friend list have had the rrod at least once. Ive had it 3 times. So 16% seems very low. SaintTheKing
I recently spoke with two guys I used to work with who both own 360s. One has never had a problem, and the other guy is on his 9th.
The failure rate for a 360 is like around 30% but with the Falcon chips its like 16%Sony_92
Can you prove this? Any information to back this claim up? Because it seems to me like you are just making crap up. The falcon chip is a new CPU. It is widespread belief that the RROD and other hardware failures are caused by the GPU...not the CPU.
360s still have the same GPU since launch and will continue to have the GPU until August 2008 at the earliest, according to MS themselves.
Seems to me you have taken two fanboy misperceptions (that falcon would fix the problem and this 16% BS) and combined them into one fanboy pipedream.
all 360s will RROD eventually, just waitRigga911
Wow, what a stupid comment.
ON TOPIC: You know, when you look at the numbers squarely, that does look like an inflated number of consoles. But what needs to be brought into the equation were the numbers that Microsoft realeased...how much money were they spending on returned 360s. I don't have the exact figure, but I know they took on a 1.89 billion loss last year. That's prettty high.
30% is probably closer to reality. Either way thats MILLIONS of bad units. Unacceptable!ThisCurse

Not really, I'm pretty sure that Microsoft said all of the 360s have the problem and they have a chance of getting RROD every time you turn them on. It's kind of like the lottery, only your console dies.
sorry but stop talking out your ass.
They never said that, and its not a crapshoot or lottery, its a general hardware failure.
If the number was 100% who the hell would buy it? Noone would buy a console if they knew it would die.

No, I'm pretty sure I didn't pull this out of my ass, I think I saw it on the news or something. Guess I'll go try to find a source.

Its actually statistically 67% of 360s that get RRoD.

who the hell would buy it if there is a high chance of fail. anything over 5% is unacceptable and far to high. can the lemon law be applied to the xbox 360???? i don't plan on buying one till they have this fixed because i don't want to end up buying multiple consoles because mine is not under warranty anymore. i wounder how many of the 17.7 million sold are because people had to buy new ones because they no longer had a warranty? i know at least 2 becuase 2 of the 6 people i know with ones got screwed b/c their consoles were "not under warranty". anyways, i am going to sleep so please bash me as much as you want because i won't be around to defend myself!!!

The 16% isn't some random poll, on a random site. It was done using over 1,000 consoles and over a course of a year, its the closest thing to an actually statistic offered at this time.
17.7 million bought it lolbond21
Yes, some don't research their purchases, some bought it at launch, some are on their second, some take risks, and some are idiots.
IMO a 16% chance of failure are decent enough odds for the best library this gen.bond21
In your opinion.

even 16% is absurdly high. Inexcusable if you ask me.you get what you paid for. from what i've seen in forums and on youtube, any model other than the elite has a higher chance of crapping out on u. so dish out that extra dough and get top of the line stuff...the ps3 lol.
ps. thats what ms get for rushing a product out to market without throughly testing their machines. they make money on the expense of their customers (e.i. time and loyalty). ever noticed the growing trend? "**** microsoft and **** bill gates."
I love how 360 owners are feverishly trying to downplay the RROD.
When you come down to it, the RROD is a fact of life. I personally would hate to own a system so unreliable that every power-up of the system is as suspenseful as a horror movie.
it's too high, ofcourse. but no reason not to buy one. gamers that use this as an excuse are no gamers or just lack the money to buy one.
Always-Honest
thats just lame. just because somebody doesnt like their console breaking on them when they have paid alot of money for it doesnt mean that their not gamers. gamers are still people, and people hate having expensive products break on them. i havnt bought a 360 cause it breaks so much, im still a gamer - i play on pc, ps2,ps3, i still play zelda on my gba still as well. i love going to my mates house and playing on his Wii as well.

and how many times did the ps3 die at e3 2007? its more then likely they died at GDC as well.
I have pictures of ps3 retail demo kiosks freezing up.
First off, I own all the system and this is a simple math question.RRoD is the main reason I haven't gotten a 360 yet. Got a PS3, but no 360. I keep saying I will get a 360 once they fix the RRoD, but to be honest, I don't think I will even get a 360. I figure by the time they get off their asses and actually fix it, it will be about time for Microsoft to abandon the 360 just like they did the first Xbox. I don't want to be part of that at all. Maybe they will get it right next gen.
