If you look at Super Mario Galaxy, it blows away anything on the wii by miles.  Even the Legend of Zelda blows away all other titles to this point and it was made for the gamecube.  What in the world are these developers doing?  I know some are going for the quick buck but all companies do not run like that.  Some companies actually strive to make quality products and I have yet to see a decent looking 3rd party game on the Wii.

I know "graphics aren't everything" but to me they matter. Even Sonic is xbox quality at best.  Why are these developers stuggling to tap the power of the Wii.  It's suppose to be easier to develop for then gamecube, minus the controller.  I just don't get it.

the games that graphics have failed are aiming for a more realsitic aproch which is much harder than making unrealistic things...thats why SMG looks better than anything esle on the Wii its easier to produce that type of graphics

It will take someone like konami or capcom to try to make a graphically good wii game.

Most Wii games had short development cycles. They are ports of last gen games like most launch titles are. They can never touch the level of 360 and PS3 graphics, so most developers are not going to focus on the graphics, as that is not the primary reason people owned the system.

The saving grace is most Nintendo games really wouldn't benefit from normal mapping, HDR and other high end effects. So as long as Wii developers create games with a good art direction, it shouldn't really matter. It most definately could have benefited from HD resolutions and textures however.

The problem is that companies who make money, like EA and Ubisoft, had "early access" to the Wii, probably because Nintendo felt they wouldn't leak info about it. And these same companies are multiplataforms specialists, so Wii games were either poorly ported or slightly upscaled from the Xbox, PS2/P and GC. On the following months, these companies will shift their priorities to the 360 and PS3 (making HD textures) and probably downgrade textures, lightning effects (etc) for the Wii. So we'll see better stuff. And small studios or publishers targetting the Wii, who must either release good apps or die, will probably squeeze every little performance out of the white box.

well.. its only been about 4 months since release, and the first games always are a bit rushed, especially launch games. they just want to get something out there quick. besides i feel that many, especially many of the american developers, dont really know how to approach the wii yet. many of them seem to think that the controls alone will sell games, but that is just moronic, since there will be so many games for Wii, that they need to be polished in every area to stand out. right now many of them are thinking "ZOMG we make these controls and it will sell good!!!!!!" not thinking about the game as a whole. even then they have failed to live up to wii's potential with the controls. but when the good and talented developers start coming up with great games for the wii, the bar will be raised and people will see what it takes to make your game sell. and its not any unambitious ports and those kind of crap games.

Look at it this way. From a developer stand point, it cost several hundred thousands Dollars to license next gen development software and 3D engines, and even more money to develop their own. It wouldn't surpise me if any studio who hopes to make games beyond the wii hasn't already invested the money to do so. So this leaves the wii with scraps in studio budgets and last gen development software that studios already have purchased. Because of this, 3rd party wii games don't look much improved over GC and PS2 games. Of course the wii isnt a powerhouse, but it is capable of much more than we have seen so far. It will take time and money for 3rd party developers to make wii games look better than they do now, unfortunately its more practical and cost effective for them not to.

Here you go, Teuf's top 5 reasons for why Wii graphics have been mostly terrible:

5.  The Wii has severely limited hardware

4.  Most third parties never really bother to learn the GameCube's hardware, instead focusing on the PS2.  And now that the Wii's hardware is almost identical to the GameCube's, they still don't know how to properly develop for it.

3.  A lot of code and assets used in Wii games we're simply ported from last gen console versions

2.  Most games we're severly rushed to capitalize on the launch

1.  The Wii has severely limited hardware

The Wii's hardware is limited compared to the 360 or ps2 but not limited in the real world in any type of way.  It's said to be up to 3x more powerful then the gamecube.  That is alot of power especially when the gamecube does great graphic games like Rouge Leader, Twilight Princess, and Resident Evil 4.

Give it more time before we see good looking Wii games. Give it time. Same goes for the PS3. Even the 360 only just started getting it's top of the line games.

Devs either wanted a quick buck (Activisoin and Ubisoft) or they did not have enough time. Games later this year will be a different story.

it is not a realistic art style fool Its not "never ending toony." They cant make a game like Mario have realistic skin textures that would be weird. But it still rivals with some 360 games and will be one of the greater games of this gen. whether fanboys can come to terms with this or not.

Wii doesn't have "severely limtied" hardware, it has hardware that's perfect for normal res games, but can't handle HD.

The fact that it can't handle HD already implies that its limited.  The "severly" part comes from the fact that it still lacks  GPU features that were present on the Xbox, such as a proper vertex shader for instance.  Even by last-gen standards its still limited.

almost every wii game up to this point has been on a gc dev kit, thats why the graphics are gc-like.
