The cows usual response to claims that the PS3 has no good games is that the good games are on their way ("buh buh buh... t3h p0tential" anyone?). My question is, if the good games aren't here yet, why did you drop $600 now instead of waiting for the good games and probably a price drop?

The PS3 has plenty of good games. Just because a game is multiplat doesn't mean it's not good.

I have RFOM, VF5, F1, Motorstorm, GTHD and Ridge Racer. That's 6 very solid PS3 exclusives (at least for the next 5 months) I also have 12 Bluray movies and tomorrow I will add the awesome Casino Royale. After being on the market for 4 months, I'd say there are enough reasons to own one. Maybe not enough for someone with specific tastes or not looking for a HD movie player to drop 600 bucks, but there are reasons to own a PS3 right now.

Because you get a lot more with a $600 PS3 than you do with the other consoles.  Blu Ray, Cell, HDMI, 60 gigs.

So basically what I am getting here is that you guys bought it for extra hardware, non-gaming features then (besides the few "quality" exclusive games you mentioned (GTHD???))? Why not just pop a Blu-Ray player in your PC?

The same could be said about any console launch (especially the Wii).
The difference is that the good PS3 games are taking longer to come.

no. your classifying EVERYONE who bought a Ps3 into your one sentence which is false for alot of Ps3 owners. everyone has certain features that their fascinated with that encourages them to buy it, you stated sum of those reasons. but theres plenty more.

I could say the same thing about the $3000 laptop I have my eye on. Why not buy it 4 years later when it will be under $1000? Because I want it now.

Dude, beleive it or not, but everyone who doesn't like the PS3 might not be a fanboy. I love my PC and I plan on getting a 360 and a Wii.

Because in 4 years that laptop will suck. In a year the PS3 will be better than it is now.

Those are not really convincing. I would buy a PS3 based on Blu-Ray if there was no competing format.

You read it wrong. I was making the point that it wasn't a valid comparison. I agree the PS3 has potential. The point I made in the original post is why buy it until in fufills that potential.

Yeah but your not buying the PS3 for the device. You buy it for the games. So the device will be more useful in a year. The laptop you are buying for the device.

There are some seriously fun games on PS3. I currently own and enjoy Resistance, Ridge Racer 7, and Motorstorm. You're only denying yourself fun by not purchasing PS3 because of fanboyism.

Yeah I would. There isn't really an advantage in early adoption, unless you just absolutely love the release games. But so far, only 1 or 2 people have said that they bought it because they like the games on it now.

Wtf??? Ok PS3 for the device.i'd rather watch movies on that thing then to buy A stand alone 1,000 blu ray player and plus with the surround sound i like the fact i can play music on it as well.See chimp the argument can go both ways.As for laptops you can do just as much as the PS3 but will cost you alot more. The PS3 in the next few years will still be running won't need to worry about spending money for upgradeable parts but you will still have free software updates. You give a Laptop 4 years and u will need to bring it into a PC shop to buy the latest parts in upgrades and buy new software just to keep up with the technology.

I have a 360 to fall back on, but I doubt the PS3 will be completely useless regardless of what happens. I really don't want to have to buy that HDDVD addon.

Are you seriously trying to argue that the PS3 has as much functionality as a laptop? Honestly, how many PS3 users are actually going to put Yellow Dog on their system?

I have a 1080p HDTV and a nice surround setup.  DVD's don't cut it for me and Bluray had more support.  I already had a 360 so I figured I'd go ahead and get it for the movie capability.  Gaming has been lean on the system but I've enjoyed it so far, especially resistance.

Anyone out there want to actually explain this to him?Because he's young and has a lost soul that needs to find his way. Lets try this since you don't understand technological comparison's i'll make it easier for you. PS3,I can watch movies listen to music and playgames and have Online.I can have this for 5 years and get free software upgrades without getting replacement parts.600$ for all this. Laptops = all that and can do Much more but.in 5 years you will have to go out and get new parts for your laptop and buy new software. ^Over a grand just to have spending money to upgrade parts over time, will cost you as much as you bought the laptop for.

Why did I get a ps3 already? Well lets see...

-I just got a broadband connection so I was eager to play some online games. My PC was a sweet machine...when I built it 5 years ago. It won't come close to handling new PC games. Plus I plan on getting a laptop soon, so I'm not throwing money into upgrading my desktop. So, Resistance and its 40 person online seemed like an entertaining option. Plus, I live in a fraternity house and several people own a 360. I can play Halo pretty much whenever I want.

Why did I choose PS3 over 360?

1. I was not impressed with the original xbox, I thought it was totally half-assed. I won't buy another MS system, until they prove to me that it is worth it. So far they haven't.

2. I've been enjoying PS games for over a decade and the franchises that have been established on the PS consoles.

3. Playstation has always had the biggest variety in games. I'll play pretty much anything.

I'm a huge movie fan and being able to watch HD movies is pretty cool.

I prefer the PS controller, because I've been using it for 10 years.

MGS4.

The only games I own for the PS3 right now are Resistance and Tekken DR. Am I happy? Yes. I was expecting more games to already be out though, but delays happen. I don't really care Resistance is taking up all my time right now anyway.

[QUOTE="Nike_Air"]Ask sheep and lemmings that bought early the same question , you will probably get the same answers.

bloodychimp

Yeah I would. There isn't really an advantage in early adoption, unless you just absolutely love the release games. But so far, only 1 or 2 people have said that they bought it because they like the games on it now.

I might be wrong , but Resistance and Motorstorm exclusively are more exciting games for a lot of gamers than what the competition has or had at the time. But the good news is for cows , the ps2 still kicked butt and people are not forced to upgrade yet.

Lemmings ? PGR3 , PDZ , Kameo , DOA4 ......... That doesn't seem all that exciting to me.
Sheep ? A forced gamecube game in Zelda , some mini-games , and wii sports (basically an eyetoy like tech demo game that appeals to aunt Sally or your 5 year old sister).

You can't be blamed for buying into the hype, but a person looking forvalue would do some research to find out which console has the best value.

I have a 360 to fall back on, but I doubt the PS3 will be completely useless regardless of what happens. I really don't want to have to buy that HDDVD addon.

This is what I mean. You won't be falling back on the 360 because it is a much better games console than the PS3. You also don't need a BR player for gaming. Your perceptions are based upon empty hype. Luckily you're in a position to benefit because you'll be able to see what I mean. Most cows won't.

The cows usual response to claims that the PS3 has no good games is that the good games are on their way ("buh buh buh... t3h p0tential" anyone?).bloodychimp

Anyone?  Hello? crickets chirp

My question is, if the good games aren't here yet, why did you drop $600 now instead of waiting for the good games and probably a price drop?

I don't know.  Why did people buy the PS2 at launch when it didn't have that many worthwhile games?  Why did people buy the 360 at launch when even the gaming media who worship it were calling it XBox 1.5 and saying none of the games show the potential of the console.

The simple answer is that people sometimes want new technology immediately.  If I had the money I would buy all the consoles right at launch.  Even when there is a drought of must-buy titles, there is always something worth a rent.

It's incredible how comments mutate from one thing into something totally different in less than 24 hours.
