Now admit, for the most part, the first thing we think of when we hear next-gen, is graphics. Now, since the birth of the 360, we have seen some truly amazing games with visuals that we have never seen on a console before. We also have the PS3, which has some impressive games and visuals of it's own(C'mon you have to give it that). And don't forget decent PC's that can run games with everything at max. Now my question is, in this gen (including PC), what was your first truly jaw-dropping moment? Visuals so good, you could'nt believe your eyes? Mine was the backdrop of Oblivion on the 360, when you first come out of the dark dungeon area and get outside. The scenery absolutely floored me. What was yours?xboxdevilFor me, gameplay comes first no matter what.
Halo 3 (anouncement Trailer)/ Halo 3 itself
Gears of War (Mad World trailer)/Gears of War itself
GT5
Mass Effect
KZ2
Ace Combat 6
Probably that level in Gears where its rainingGazzaB
Yupp...my jaw dropped when I saw that...literally.
GEARS OF WAR SPOILERS:
The cutscene in gears where your squad leader is killed. When the camera zoomed in on Marcus' face, you could see just how detailed the game was. The flames behind him were another great touch; they looked so vivid. It's still hard to believe that was an in-game cutscene.
Oblivion. Although I dislike the game, the visuals where amazing, too bad they didn't take advantage of their engine and vary up the environments.
And to think, I was amazed at Doom's visuals when it released back in '93.
The first time that you use your bow in Call of Juarez (rabbit hunting) - it was one the first times that I'd seen depth of field effects in a game, and it was amazing!
Either that, or seeing the awesome lighting effects at the start of Half-Life 2 Episode 1, or the reactor core.
I agree.GEARS OF WAR SPOILERS:

well then, its a good thing that good looking games often play well too. well, unless its on the PC. because if it looks good on the PC, it is automatically a tech demo. so, therefore, teh godbox is teh bestest console evar. SNES am pwnd!

For me, it depends on the genre. OUR THE System Shock 2 is a good example. I played it when it was first made and thought it was great. Recently popped it back it back in and blegh, not scary to me or enjoyable due to the graphics and my core playing time is still devoted to SNES. Thus, in terms of FPS games to me, without superb graphics, the gameplay will be terrible as stated for OUR THE System Shock 2.
Let's see..
I'd have to say the first truly jaw-dropping game I've seen this console generation was probably S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The dynamic lighting system in that game is simply amazing. The lightning storms during the night in particular are jaw-dropping.
Still waiting for that real"Jaw-dropping" moment :P hopefully crysis or hellgate will provide it form me,im keeping myself from watching too much videos from those games so i really get wowed when they are out!!!
Ps Company of heroes came the closest to wowing me,first mission when they go from CGI to graphics is just awesome,it looks even better now with DX10 patch8)
Also if that Mafia 2 trailer was in game then i have to say that is the prettiest game i ever seen! Also seems it wil be the coolest!;)
Edit forgot about the first X360 game that really had me amazed Fight night round 3
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast.
Jumpin' Christwagons was that amazing.

...Especially when you're in the church and the helicopter in shooting out the windows.
I had the same experience in Oblivion. Say what you want about the game, but when it came out, it's visuals were jawdropping.batistafan99
Def. Even with the craptastic computer I used to have (128 vid card 512mb Ram 2.2 AMD Athlon...yeah bad...)
Also Half Life 2: Lost Coast....god....those moments determined my future career....

Don't get me wrong, there has been better looking games released since then, but Farcry was the first that made me say WOW.
Lol you pffft Farcry, but praise Doom 3. Now thats funny.  :lol:For me, i think the first game to really pump up graphics to the level we see now was Doom 3.
That game looked freaking crazy when it came out, and still looks really nice today.. Farcry.. pffffft.
