alot of people seem to assume this, but I think that its far from being a universal truth about multiplayer video games. look at games like quake 3 or unreal tournament 3. they dont have half the modes and customization as halo reach, and yet I find them to be much more fun, well made games in terms of the multiplayer experience. The same thing applies to killzone 3, in my eyes. The overall gameplay and level design are more important to me than how many gimmicky modes there are.
