i grew up playing gameboy, nes, snes, n64... after that era was when sony and microsoft got into gaming and nintendo starting taking a whole new route in gaming imo.

the gamecube and the wii don't seem to feel like future classics. like, i played the new super mario bros and mario galaxy and it doesn't really feel like a mario game to me... im not sure if it's because im 22 years old now and games don't thrill me as much anymore or if the games just suck now a days... i haven't played the new donkey kong country but i know that their is no way in hell it'll be better than donkey kong country 2 for the snes.

anyone else feel the same? is nintendo almost done making consoles? the 3ds will be great, i think they should just focus on it and remake all the classic games like yoshi's island!

I always find it ridiculous whenever people relate lack of their interest in Nintendo games with their age.

I think with the Wii, there were longer gaps between good Nintendo games, but they're still as good as the old ones.

Nintendo does what is best for their bottom line, adapting to changing markets. People also change. It's okay if you don't enjoy them as much. It's also not their fault.

Just remember getting old and aging don't always mean the same thing as I'm at least a few years over 22 and I still enjoy a round of Super Mario on NES, and even just played a little bit of New SMB Wii. You probably just need to take a break from gaming for a little bit find something else to do, then come back. There are highs and lows with any hobby a person enjoys, and it sounds like this is one of the lows.

No

Nintendo's focus has always been children and casuals, the thing is they've just become really good at it by now

Nothing has changed, Nintendo's goals are still on target like they were 25 years ago

it's just you. They went the the same route when they made the gamecube, people just didn't buy them. Wii is going the same route as well, just with an EXTRA audience. The Gamecube is horribly underated. It was much better than the xbox, and as good or better than the ps2 imo. Wii is getting so many amazin games now it's ridiculous. Again, it's just you ;)

I think that nintendo is a bit wrapped up in things other than making great games atm. I don't criticize what they did with the gamecube at all though. Smash Bros Melee, Thousand Year Door, Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Eternal Darkness (it's nintendo, deal with it), Metroid Prime, Metriod Prime Echoes, Animal crossing, Fzero GX, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, and even Super Mario Sunshine. Incredible list of games imo. The gamecube's and n64's failing was third party support. I might fault nintendo for their hardware end of things, and they can be backward at times (n64 and wii in particular) but I can never fault their software abilities.

What do Microsoft and Sony have to do with what Nintendo is doing. When Nintendo started making kids/casual games both companies weren't even in the console race.

In some ways yes.. In others no.

Imo the series that have been going down hill big time are Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and Mario Party. Which get worse with every entry (with the exception of Mario Kart DS and Mario Party 2)

The series that are currently in a slump right now are Zelda and Smash Bros. Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass were pretty disappointing, and while Spirit Tracks was great it still wasnt up to that Zelda Standard that all the previous ones had. And Brawl was just too slow and too n00bified to get into it. I realize alot of people didnt have that problem but its just my and everyone else opinion. Im sure that HAL has heard these complaints and will most likely make it a bit faster/ more technical next round.. If they dont I doubt it will sell as well as brawl or melee, cause the series lost ALOT of fans with the last entry.. i mean.. ALOT.

But imo Mario has never been better. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were two of the best mario games AND video games of all time. The multiplayer in NSMBWii is one of the best aditions the series has made in the past 2 decades, while in some ways the game could have been executed better I see great things happening with multiplayer mario in the near future.

There's no questions to be answered, there's facts

Nintendo is a company that's always been focused on children and casuals, that's why when they wanted to make sure they were sold in all the toy stores they thought up R.O.B. as a gimmick to play games and called him a toy thereby making sure the NES was carried in all the large toy stores.

Although there's some truth in your statement, Jaysonguy is telling more of the truth than you are. Nintendo sold the The Nintendo Entertainment System as a Toy first, therefore marketing it to children.

Although today, Nintendo's Focus is to make a Game that ANYONE can play. That's why in most of their commercails you may see a Teenager play with someone past their prime with a game like Wii Sports or Wii Music.

Anyone can play those games.

Dude what the heck are you getting so butt hurt about?

I said that the NES was marketed to CHILDREN FIRST and was sold as a TOY FIRST!

Heck they're still doing that type of market today, look at the back of some JCpenny Catalogues. The VideoGames are almost always near the back where the toys are.

You can't deny that they market some stuff to children!

Wrong

If you bothered to learn about the history of gaming you'd know that consoles weren't sold in toy stores because they weren't seen as such. Actually if you researched just a bit you'd find out that earlier consoles were meant to be played with an adult present.

So to allow the NES to be sold in all toy stores Nintendo thought up R.O.B. as a easy gimmick to allow the NES to be sold there

Nintendo games haven't really evolved. The Nintendo Console has with its motion controls. Seeing as I dont like motion controls, it's irrelevant to me. I gave the Nintendo Wii a "go" but it's just not for me. I'll wait for its successor...

The Zelda series is one of the easiest mainstream titles to play

There's nothing "hardcore" about it

The only thing that made the first Zelda game longer (yet still not difficult) is because of the archaic system that had you find the last dungeons, otherwise it's simply a basic adventure game.

It's a video game console. The ps3 is a video game console. They are both toys, or they aren't.

*facepalm*

what is a video game console?

So you weren't saying the nes was a toy, and not all others?

you're getting old, definitely. is it the reason you're starting to dislike nintendo games? definitely not. is it somehow related to the quality of the games? nope. what is it then? it's up to you to find out... and you better find a cure quick.

I always find it ridiculous whenever people relate lack of their interest in Nintendo games with their age.funsohng
Why? It is a age thing, yes you can still enjoy nintendo games as you get older, but the appeal starts to die because nintendos main focus is kids. That is a fact. I wouls like to see a 19 yr+ person that can actually afford or has all of the consoles and say as a whole I prefer nintendos games, I have had more fun on my wii, then my ps3/360/pc all gen. If there was one I wouldnt believe him anyways.

Retro studio's made it. Did nintendo make super metroid? :o or twilight princess or any zelda? :o try and get yourself outta this one because those series are as hardcore as they go. cmon, I dare ya

theuncharted34

The Zelda series is one of the easiest mainstream titles to play

There's nothing "hardcore" about it

The only thing that made the first Zelda game longer (yet still not difficult) is because of the archaic system that had you find the last dungeons, otherwise it's simply a basic adventure game.

It's funny how you said Twilight Princess because lots of people consider that to be the worst of the series and why was it awful? Because Nintendo went away from what it knew and tried to make it gritty and what they ended up with was a flop. Same easy gameplay but the rest was.....lacking

Yes Super Metroid was a Nintendo made game and it's not a very hard game, it's a good 2D platformer just like a ton of other games that Nintendo makes

Not sure how any of this dispels the fact about Nintendo being aimed at children and casuals

2 things Iv'e gathered from this thread.

1. apparently all games are aimed at children, and we all need to grow up

AND 2. Twilight princess is awful. HOW?

1. No one said that all games are for kids, not sure where you saw that

2. Twilight Princess is awful because they tried to make it grittier but at the same time easier. What we're left with is a bad game that's somehow even easier then the normal Zelda games and lost all the atmosphere that made Zelda worth playing in the first place.

Awful story, awful character portrayals, awful gameplay
