Ready at Dawn is finally able to speak more freely with their game bound to hit shelves later this week, and some interesting tidbits are appearing on the Web from their interviews. For example, Ru Weerasuriya (The Order 1886 CEO and Creative Director at RAD) issued a bold statement regarding the difference in philosophy of working with Sony. From an interview just published on GodisaGeek:

"I think Sony is actually very different. Microsoft makes great games when it comes to things like Gears and Halo, and games like that have had a huge impact on how we perceive and play games, but Sony is more on the creative side, they do games for other purposes I think, they all have their doctrines that they live by. For us, The Order was not an answer to a hole that was there, it was more a great idea that I think we have, there’s a great platform that’s coming out, lets try and make the two work together."

This will probably attract some controversy between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fans, but it’s certainly true to a degree that SCE historically funded many creative projects which didn’t necessarily translate into commercial success. A few examples from the recent past can be Flower, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Puppeteer and even Tearaway, with Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Rime and The Tomorrow Children seemingly going down the same route.

Source. Never heard of the site...Then again, there are lots of sites I've never heard of...

When it comes to 1st party IPs? I...I guess so...Mainly because Microsoft doesn't have many notable IPs. (That they actually make big budget games for.)

If Microsoft brings back those old Rare IPs, Sony is going to have competition.

we already knew that. Sony are the only ones always bringing out the new IP's while M$ and Kidtendo only release rehashes.

Well they definitely beat MS with their movie department, Ready at Dawn's latest 5 hour movie even has some interactivity.

More than that.

Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Battletoads, Conker, Crackdown, Fable, etc. MS has the IPs. MS has the talent to make new great IPs. MS just doesn't bother with them. Why? I dunno.

The whole Sony imitation and not innovation was started for a reason. A real truthful reason.

This has been known for awhile. In terms of creativity Nintendo, then Sony, then Microsoft coming last with the least amount of varied and noteworthy in house games. Even the games they own that are noteworthy where requisitioned and not produced by companies cultivated or run in any form by Microsoft. They seem to rely on partnering with third parties for exclusives then either drop or buy the IP from said developers depending on it's success.

Sony dev speaks highly of Sony, more news at 11.

This is also pretty common knowledge. I wouldn't say that Sony is more creative but they tend to support creative/artsy games more than Microsoft (and even Nintendo).

Meanwhile: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2015/02/18/11-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-order-1886/

1. It’s the perfect game to pair with Mountain Dew and Doritos!

Here’s why: There are so many cut-scenes and moments where you don’t have to do anything but sit and watch, you’ll have your hands free. This makes it super easy to wolf down super delicious Doritos which can only be properly washed down with gulp after gulp of frosty fresh Mountain Dew!

7. Hey look, it’s time for some more delicious Doritos! And don’t forget the Mountain Dew!

This is because, no matter what RaD says, this game is not a $100 steak. You will need to eat something else.

I think Microsoft's golden years (Gears & Halo) are behind them.

It's the moment Don Mattrick took helm, that's when things went downhill.

It is true, Microsoft are only interesting in taking risks with stuff like Kinect.

Sony are more open to letting their devs teams do their own thing, especially when you look at stuff like Driveclub, it might be not so great but at least it's what the dev team wanted to do and Sony supported them even when they failed to deliver rather than shutting their studio down.

If being creative results in turds like the BOREDer 1886 and Drive Club then I'll take the Microsoft side, Or just take Nintendo and have both creativity and fun games to play, Thanks.

Xbox One has had Project Spark, Ryse and Titanfall so far. PS4 has nothing yet.

Microsoft policy is a bit different like last gen they got games like Mass Effect and Bioshock a year or two before the PS3, arguably these two games are more important than any new IPs on the PS3 in the first several years (Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword). Sony has some interesting unique games but is something like flower as much of a must play as Bioshock or Mass Effect?

He's not wrong. Sony actually introduces new IP's and games that are different from the norm. Microsoft is a much more reactionary company. They have market analysts that see what's popular and just cash in on that.

A lot of the hyped Sony first parties are new IP's while the most hyped MS games are usually something revolving around Forza, Halo, Fable, ect. It's not a bad thing though.

I feel bad for RAD. It's always heartbreaking seeing people lose their jobs and I think RAD won't even last this gen. Hopefully RAD gets more freedom and work on other projects on more systems because they aren't getting any help on one system. Other branch out or just close and rebuild and start a new studio.
