One area that Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PlayStation 3 does fall a little short on when compared to the other versions is with regards to visuals. It's a nice looking game to be sure, but the whole thing doesn't look quite as sharp as it could. Colors are a little duller and there isn't as much use of certain effects, like bloom lighting and such. Some folks may appreciate that aspect to a certain degree, but beyond that it still doesn't look quite as nice as what we've seen previously. Some texture work isn't quite as sharp, and the characters aren't as detailed as what's found in the 360 release, especially in the faces. Weapons that have been dropped pop in and out of view as you approach and walk away when they're but a mere 50 feet or so away.

No, i read in interview BEFORE THIS GAME WAS RELEASED PS3 IS LESS POWERFUL THAN XBOX360.

ubisoft said xbox360 is more powerful, and ps3 has less ram so texture resolutions have to be downgraded to save memory.

Thats not the hardwares fault. Its the devs fault that they are not used to its hardware as much as they are with the 360 hardware.

Exactly. There is no difference really. Since the content on the 360 version is free on july 6th and anyone who bought the black pack will get they'er MS points refunded and tye fact the 360 versions £17.99....

Wow. The only reason games look better on 360 right now because the 360 architexture it fairly similiar to PC. Where as the PS3 is different because the CPU and GPU are almost as one. Where they work together. RSX and cell were made to work with each other. Soon PC will be like this were the CPU and GPU are one piece of hardware.

My brother has it for PS3, and I have it for 360. I haven't been able to notice any differences.

However my brother did think that rapelling was exclusive to the PS3 version, for some reason. :P

m8 before u say things like that make sure u have played both versions. what rulezzggdff said is true. i have and have both versions and im afraid the 360 version is alot better, but as eddie vedder said it is a ubisoft port. thankgod assasins creed isnt going to be a port from the 360

Umm, that's not saying much that's saying ps3 is really bad, because pc is the most powerful, unreal tournament 3 is a computer port to ps3/xbox360, if ps3 cant even handle a xbox360 port how the hell is it gonna handle a graphical masterpiece like ut3?

xbox360 will handle unreal tournament 3 much better, will have higher resolution texture's because of more memory avalible and that=graphics lol.

Actually yes it is buddy, it's a pc game originally coded in direct x 9 api, then ported to ps3 dev kits open gl es when sony started handing out their stuff, same with xbox360.

it's pc game by heart will look best on pc, second best on xbox360 and look like a turd on ps3 with washed out lower detailed textures.

funny how dreamcast came out before ps2 and unreal tournament was ported to ps2/dc and ps2 version ran/looked best because it had more ram.

The same deal is happening with ps3/xbox360, even though xbox360 came out before, sony put out a less powerful system a year later.

Even ps3 developers admitted xbox360 is more powerful.

They said it's easier for xbox360 to handle ps3 game without downgrades, than ps3 handling a xbox360 game without downgrades.

This automatically tells you ps3 hardware cant compete.

well I am dissapointed, but at the same time, not surprised by Ubisofts half-arsed approach. When are developers going to learn that systems these days cant be ported like they were previously. They need to look for ways to exploit system power.

DUDE, SO MANY PEOPLE ARE IN DAMAGE CONTROL, NO MATTER WHo PROGRAMMED PORTED THIS, IT WOULD BE DOWNGRADED IN GRAPHICS BECAUSE THE TEXTURE'S MADE ARE SO LARGE IN RESOLUTION PS3 DOESNT HAVE ENOUGH RAM TO KEEP THEM AT SAME RESOLUTION AND FIT WHOLE GAME INTO VIDEO MEMORY/system.

The texture's would have to be totally remade and then would look different and still wouldnt be as high in detail because it cannot hold the same texture resolution.

Pure ownage. Ownage for people who spend thier time carring which version of a port is better. I could care less if the PS3 version of oblivion looks better than the 360 version. I don't play them side by side so who cares. Some people need to get a life. Seriously.

It's still AAA fanboy. Get lost, you know PS3 will get better games soon and since you mentioned Vegas is downgraded, say the same about GRAW 2. GRAW 2 IS the superior version confirmed by Ubisoft themselves, so do us all a favour and shut up.

The PS3 has the same amount of ram. Only the PS3 OS CURRENTLY takes more than the 360's does. In time the difference wont be that much once the PS3 OS is finalized with HOME/ETC.

One thing that won't ever change is that the 360s GPU is the memory controller and there isn't a lot of bandwidth for both CPU and GPU with the shared memory architecture.

One area that Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PlayStation 3 does fall a little short on when compared to the other versions is with regards to visuals. It's a nice looking game to be sure, but the whole thing doesn't look quite as sharp as it could. Colors are a little duller and there isn't as much use of certain effects, like bloom lighting and such. Some folks may appreciate that aspect to a certain degree, but beyond that it still doesn't look quite as nice as what we've seen previously. It's a port from a system with a completely different architecture. I see no ownage. I've played R6: Vegas on PS3 and it looks fine.

So, if ps3 cannot handle a port from another system this means it's weaker than the other system.

funny how dreamcast came out before ps2 and unreal tournament was ported to ps2/dc and ps2 version ran/looked best because it had more ram.

The same deal is happening with ps3/xbox360, even though xbox360 came out before, sony put out a less powerful system a year later.

The PS3 has the same amount of ram. Only the PS3 OS CURRENTLY takes more than the 360's does. In time the difference wont be that much once the PS3 OS is finalized with HOME/ETC.

One thing that won't ever change is that the 360s GPU is the memory controller and there isn't a lot of bandwidth for both CPU and GPU with the shared memory architecture.

no 256+256 is not the same as 512 mb of ram unified.

xbox360 has plenty of bandwidth, 256 gb on the 10 mb edram for framebuffer which is the biggest bandwidth hog.

plus 22.4 gb shared between cpu/gpu.

ps3 has like 20.8 gb for video ram and 25.6 on main memory.

ps3's video memory will take a very large hit doing framebuffer use almost all of 20.8 gb and maybe some of xdr bandwidth so it all evens out.

xbox360 simply has more ram and this is the whole reason xbox360 is better well and more powerful gpu.

thats why its a sloppy port.

even if they were totally remade, they still couldnt handle the same resolution size as like 1024x1024, the ps3 textures would have to be like 512x512.

I feel bad for ps3 fans it truly is a piece of crap console and i know this for a fact just casual gamers that dont know crap about hardware think otherwise.

bit late with this topic.. has been discussed numerous times. but yeah, porting from 360 to PS3 will remain a problem. In a 1up podcast they said madden and other ea games (soccer game) has serious framerate problems: the 360 version runs ar 60fps and the Ps3 version at 30fps.
