A quote from neo gaf.
"Gamers almost always look for FPSs, RPGs and sports games. The failure of unique and original games like Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil and Stranger's Wrath means that it's less likely we'll ever see games like these again. Ever. "
is this true?? I am CRY!!
All the smart people from rare left when the company sold its soul to MS. Rare is no longer the skilled dev it was in the old days.
There is something about viva pinata that even my lil bro doesnt like.. where is PD2 Banjoo Kameo Starfox. Those are the games that need to be coming out...ByFly

Those are probably my 3 favorite games from last gen.
And the fact that they did so bad, makes me think that this quote might have some truth to it. :(
wow, Blue Dragon only got 6.5, I played the demo of that and although Im not a real fan of any RPG, I found it more interesting to play than Final Fantasy XI that I do own that scored an 8.0.
I guess GS reviews are starting to become ass.

2 completely different type of games man. I have been playing ffxi for so, sooo long now. Fun to me, just don't see how you could compare a mmorpg to a rpg. Oh, and I couldn't stand the demo to Blue Dragon.
Viva pinata simply wasent released on a platform that had a suitable audience.
Racers, Sports games, and shooters / action - the 360s big genres.
Viva Piniata is supposed to be a kids game, so it stuck out like a sore thumb, and didnt appeal to the vast majority of the userbase. As it was a new IP it wasent as if it was going to attract kids in droves instantly.
On somthing like the Wii the game would have had more sucess - a more 'family' and yes kid friendly console.
Viva Piñata is a succesful game. (Critics Average: %85)

Why did it sell not that good? Because Xbox360's audience is mature.

I haven't played Viva or seen it for that matter, but just because there is no blood in a game doesn't mean it's not mature like some people seem to think.

Please don't compare Viva Pinata to such excellent titles. Viva Pinata was quirky, sure, but it wasn't a whole lot of fun to play. Congratulations, watered-down Harvest Moon with Pinatas? I'm not biting, and the schizophrenic art design was more "sickening and strange" than appreciable. Mario Sunshine meets Harvest Moon in Mexico is not the design philosophy Rare should have approached this with. There are simply so many other games that offer a better gameplay experience in the same genre, not many on the 360, but still. If the target market really wasn't on your system, then why, as a developer for that system, did you put the game there?
Psychonauts actually got screwed over by advertising budget and the stupidity of the general consumer, Viva Pinata deserved its fate.

MS does not understand what Nintendo does really well. Ill admit right here that right now MS makes and gets much better shooters for its system, but games outisde of that are simply terrible on 360 save a few. Wii definitely needs more shooters but 360 needs everything else. Viva Pinata was a laughable attempt at that.

except that VP was a great game and as good as the best nintendo titles out right now
hell it says right in the gs review that its an awesome title that shouldnt be missed
I agree with Rare. Viva Pinata was a great game but i don't think any game would have a chance when it's released the same time as GeOW, which was the only game that people were talking about. It would have helped if it atleast had a demo though (or did it? i dont remember).

Very, very OLD.
so no one should try a psychonauts either again if thats the attitude you should haveFact is in the game industry:
93% of new IPs fail
Review scores do not effect sales
You can't develop games for an invisible audience, and expect profit

well not really, Psychonauts tried to push itself into an market where similar games had not done well in the past. On the xbox, and ps2 there was no known market for that type of platformer, there was no demand for psychic powers in games, and there was no demand for E/T rated games. Had it been one of the release titles on Wii it probably would of sold millions, but not as a ps2/xbox family friendly game nearing the end of the generation cycle.
As a gamer psychonauts is awesome but as a businessman it was just bad timing/market evaluation.
Viva Pinata is a great game, anyone who hates on it must've never played it and just say "teh kiddy" because they feel playing shooters makes them more mature.
xDonRobx
Or they love it and lie
Viva Pinata might look like a kid's game but it seems to me it was too complicated for a child to pick up and get into easily.
Please stop raving about BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL. It was an average game at best.

i agree to some extent. i think it actually is a little to complicated for a child to understand just how great viva pinata was with everything u can do, although they can still have fun playing it. I honestly loved viva pinata though, one of my fav 360 games. But the problem is ppl dont give it a chance because they think its a kiddy game when theres actually more to it, to bad ppl dont give it a shot

I totally disagree with that last statement. It was an amazing game. The stroy was incredibly mature and thought provoking.

It's not a bad game, but it's not a really good game either.
It has too much stuff going on, fights can get utterlly annoying at times.
Pinatas escape their enclosed space all the time.
You tell them to eat and sometimes they just ignore you.
It's a good game to relax and play, but by no means it's a great game.

I'd like Kameo 2 but this time I hope it's complete. That ending was ridiculous for the first one, it felt incredibly rushed.
