The sheer visual prowess and aesthetics of this game simply can't be contained, not only is it one of the best looking game ever, it manages to surpass some of the older Pixar movies. Hats off to Insomniac as they have delivered the impossible on the PS4. Does pc have anything as visually pleasing and charismatic as this?

Older Pixar movies

Wow, it's almost as if 12+ years of computer technology is separating them!

I think the point he was trying to make is it's probably the first game to achieve this rather than be a dig at the older pixar films, doing this in real time vs on a render farm is quite a difference.

Whats your PSN ID gpuking/m3dude1/giovela2010/insertwhateveraltaccountname?

I bet you don't even play most of these games you hype up, like most other cows on this site, lol.

I see some better instances of lighting and that's about it, but continue with your shtick.

Older Pixar films don't have shimmering, aliasing, compromised lod distance. And they are rendered at much higher native resolution. I would say that real time graphics are catching up in some aspects though.

It looks incredible indeed. Even better if we compare it to 90s CGI movies:

OK i get that ere are 12 years tech separating the movies from this game, but those movies were 12 years ahead of even PC games back when they came, hell i say even more.

Toy Story was a 1995 movie is 21 years old,let me remind you how graphics looked back then.

You mean a great game from 2016 beats out nearly 20 year old films in visuals?

I'd damn well hope so or I'd be worried.

You need to get your eyes checked.

Even Toy Story still looks better than Ratchet and Clank.

The game has low res textures and low LOD along with a bunch of other stuff.

The foliage is particularly bad.

From a lighting point of view it will look better then a Pixar film using 10+ years old lighting technology.

But from an image and asset quality point of view it's still behind.

But it's still the closest any one has got this far.

Yes, it looks really good.........but settle down TC. Youre doing more harm than good.

R&C has shimmering and jaggies from the AA method used, not to mention the texture quality and level of detail. The final image may LOOK close, but close scrutiny says otherwise. Dont do that to yourself or the PS4.

Consoles are still at least 10 years away from even the first Pixar movies in terms of visual fidelity. It takes months to generate a full movie because of the image quality and at least 10 hours to generate a single frame....with huge server farms. Youre not doing that in real time on a console.

@scatteh316: each frame of Toy Story took a minimum of 2 hours to render. Meaning the PS4 would have to be well over 200,000 times more powerful at minimum to even attempt pixar graphics. So no.

The overall look and feel are definitely better than 90s Pixar movies, yes some areas like image quality may not be reached but that's only a minor concern.

Errrr yes..... Regardless how long the frames take it still uses lighting techniques that are 2 decades old and there are much much better techniques around now.

When I first enter this thread, I honestly thought we were talking about the actual Ratchet & Clank movie vs Pixars movies. Talking about Ratchet & Clank PS4 vs Pixar was the last thing on my mind.

I'm sorry but the first Toy Story movie still holds well in today's standards, even A Bugs Life as well and sorry to say but those two movies beats out Ratchet & Clank PS4. Also As much as I like Pixar, even Dream Works animation movies beats out Ratchet & Clank game.

They really don't. The textures are extremely weak in TS1 and A Bug's life, not to mention the simplistic lighting, they look suitably dated in comparison as they should.

It looks really good but I'm not overtly impressed, in play it looks a lot like Knack, it almost looks like the same engine even.

Now it's a 2 year newer game so obviously there are numerous improvements, but overall it seems like the natural progression for a game like this..

The pre-rendered cut scenes are pixar level and likely pulled directly from the movie, the game is not.

@davillain-: No they really don't.... I watched the original Shrek and even my girlfriend commented that games look better now. The new stuff like Big Hero 6 or Wreck it Ralph is still ahead...... but the older stuff doesn't hold up.
