I'd give it a 7.

Most games are decent but hampered by load times and awkward control schemes. I couldnt care less about skype or UMD on it.

i never understoud why the ds sells so much all the games look alike. well all the rpg seem to look the same. pokemon dimond, blue, red ect. the ds to play those graphics over and over again would drive me insane. i know my son and daughter have one as well.

lol drive my car tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. my son playing mario parrty again. tip of the ds pen tapping the screen over and over again drives my off the road.

I'll rate it AAA. I used to think the PSP was kind of a waste and that it didn't have many good games. Then I bought one and I'm very impressed with it. Makes the DS feel last-gen to me.

If you look at specs, the PSP blows the DS out of the water, but if you look at games on the other hand DS blows the PSP out of the water. That seems to be the story with Sony this gen, and it really is a shame. Let's hope the PSP turns around like the PS3 appears to be doing.

I'd say a solid B. I had fun with it; though I felt most of the multimedia features were cool but ultimately unnecessary (Strictly my opinion) because I had a Zune. It had a pretty nice internet browser and some generally appealing games. But the damn thing always seemed to be running outta battery power. Screen glare was kind of annoying in the first generation of PSPs but both those points seem to be getting rectified. Now if only it had a second analog "nub"

Edit: We're doing number; gotta pay attention. 7.5.

9.5. I have the same issues with DS that I have with Wii, I just can't get into the games. My PSP is an original launch one, it hasn't had a single problem with it.

I like mine so much I may just get a PSP 3000 soon to upgrade for the hell of it. If the PSP died tomorrow, I wouldn't care, I'd have enough to keep me busy for a long, long time.

Personally, the stylus is just as gimmicky as the Wii remote, and it ruins a lot of games for me. I just don't understand how Nintendo sells so much of whatever they put out.

Without the CFW the PSP is a solid 7. With CFW, the PSP is a solid 9.5. The secret of the PSP comes from modding it, so many extra features that its impossible to number them down.

8.0.

It's alright for a first attempt but it tends to feel like a watered down ps2 on the go. That and the analog nub sucks.

I'd be a bit more conservative and give it a 6, for the exact same reasons that you pointed out

Also devs seem to have abandoned it before its full potential could be realised (which is a shame)

That's how I feel too. I actually bought two DS units before I got a PSP. I wasn't even that excited about it at first. I just got it on a good deal, but now that I've had it for awhile I love it and use it even more than my DS units.

The psp is a great console, I mean it has inrcredibly specs, graphics and features for such a small console, graphically its on par with the PS2. There are two main problems which let it down for me though. Firstly, a lack of second analog stick really hinders the controls. Also, there aren't nearly enough games on it. Its a shame because the some games for the system are incredible, e.g. Syphon Filter DM and LS, Tekken 5, Daxter, R&C, God of War etc. If only they could pull out more games like this. Portable Resident Evil or DMC would be insanely fun. I guess you could say the fault lies with the damn pirates.

Its a good handheld but better for multi-media, the ds is best for games IMO

Still a good start

And I think PSP 3000 has a worse battery life than PSP Slim and Lite

I totally agree

I liked the PSP at first but as there wasn't enough games for me I went for a DS and fell in love with its library

I'll also give it a 7. A solid entry for a first portable, and doing more against a Nintendo portable than any other company. With some useful improvements, 2nd analogue stick, built in GPS/Camera, tilt controls, removal of UMD/addition of HDD, microphone and a touch screen, PSP2 could do well (if sold for the right price!).

Excellent handheld imo. I like the games also. The only negative thing about the console is the lack of games compared to the DS.

After playing my DS some more, I'd give the PSP an 8.0/10. The only thing it lacks is a stronger variety and line up games. That and a second analog nub. :P

if sony releases PSP2 they should drop the UMD disk and include a hdd and use memory sticks for the games but for the 1st handheld they did good. sony has so many great psone games all they have to do is update the graphics and port it to the psp.

I have not been playing the PSP ever sense I got my Ps3, but I think the PSP is much better then the DS... In terms of Games and Tech... I can't figure out why anyone would think the DS is better... I'm waiting for a few games and then I'll get back to my PSP...

really needs a second analog nub for action and shooting games, screen and faceplate smudge and scratch too easily, bettery life wasn't too great when it first came out, a little better now though. loading is terrible for some games. ghosting was terrible for the first PSPs. almost impossible to play outside with the glare. aside from all that, i still enjoy the system, hopefully the PSP2 addresses some of these issues

i gave it 72/100 battery life is so so, somewhat acceptable, loading time takes FOREVER in few games (ncaa09), UMD movies are useless, and it's a gaming system that i have the least amount of games for

It survived and sold well (25+ million world wide I believe). That is an accomplishment against Nintendo. Its something that no other comapny has been able to do.

Overall as a system I would give it an 8. The low battery life, the very dull screen in the sunlight, the size, and the lack of a 2nd analog sick really hold it back from being a 10/10. It has a great selection of fun games, it has enough media options to make geek fall in love with it, the graphics are very advanced for a handheld, its wi-fi capabilities are strong, and its a solid machine.

No nothing new, just a portable ps2 without the good games, lack of game, low battery power, too much budles and remodel, too much unneccesary feature.

Buy a Ipod Touch instead of this let down.

Sony was bragging that they would take over the handheld market, this thing will never compete with the DS.

Awesome little device. If it was also a phone it would have it all. But Sony has yet to implement that feature. After owning a DS I think the PSP 2 should have a touch screen and tilt sensor in it. The ultimate device has yet to be made...

As a system: 9

The problems are battery life and d-pad unsuited for beat em ups.

The library: 7

It needs more shooters and platformers.

I prefer my handhelds and consoles to give different experience. I'd rather the next PSP not to become a carbon copy of the DS. Sony should just just do with the PSP2 what MS did with the 360 this gen.

Both of you are way of the mark. The PSP is ALMOST as powerful as the PS2.

Look at games like FF7 Crisis Core or God Of War Chains of Olympus.

This handheld gets an 8.5 (if it wasn't for the weak battery, I would have given it a 10). 8)

I think, when they said that, they were talking about how, in the Lynx's lifetime, Nintendo dominated the market with superior software support. It also had less inconveniant battery usage, the price was higher, and so forth... Graphics are obviously different.

Compared to the Ds it's not great. But considered it's Sony's first foray into Nintendo's home turf, they did very well. They have like 1/3 of the market, don't they? That's pretty amazing for a first effort. It has some nice games too.

Their next portable could be amazing. If they fix the analogue and forget gimmicks like UMD movies and Skype in favour of securing more games, Ninty could be in trouble.
