Rate the gaming company, Day 7: Microsoft

I don't consider them a game company. But I like Windows and stuff. But as a "gaming company" 0/10

Hard to judge

Pros

-360 was pretty powerful when it released

-Good online system

-Financial juggernaut, can advertise/buy whatever they want

Cons

-Completely focused on Kinect, despite advertising the 360 as a core gamer system.

-Online fee

-Pioneer for DLC

-RRoD

-Lack of exclusives

-Trying to find identity as a gaming company

I would say 5/10 right now.

As a gaming company... 5/10.

However, I do appreciate their Windows computer software.

Good at hardware, but terrible when it comes to first party games.

Based from past MS games I have owned:

Age of Empires - 8/10

Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far - 9/10

Combat Flight Simulator 2: Pacific Theater - 9/10

Combat Flight Simulator 3: 8/10

Flight Simulator 2002 - 8/10

Flight Simulator X - 9/10

MS Score: 8.5/10

I have to admit MS stood up and took it on the chin with the RROD death fiasco but as I remember they paid out of pocket for the repairs so that's good. I find all the focus on Kinect disturbing. Multiplats play better. If the 720 has bluray I may just jump the Sony ship and cross over. $5 a month for online seems reasonable.

but he is on too something tho , this place is filled with haters against ms for some reason .. fanboy thats sums it up pretty good .. they might not be top tier .. but all those 1/10 is the typical cows dont need to say more ..

and rating them worse than capcom ye just proves my point .

If SOny was rated first and lemmings spammed bad ratings, I would get even agianst them and gave Microsoft a bad ratings in their thread.

Err Im not comfortable doing this one. MS has a really strong fanbase here and I don't want to offend people. Screw it. lol.

MS have done a phenomenal job with Halo and Forza as well as making it worthwhile for Epic to keep Gears 360 exclusive. 3 franchises that have definitely made their mark this generation. Solid AAA franchises I am quite honestly sick of and as a gamer who values new IPs and variety MS have made nothing of note, Kinect focus has butchered their core focus even more and Rare is a shell of its former self under their control. On top of that they have shoddy hardware plus the audacity to put every app behind a pay wall including online play which imo is criminal. And as of late their XBLA rules are hurting other digital platforms as well as indie developers. I want my RCR!!!!!!!!

Im sorry but for MS, it's going to have to be a 3/10. One for Gears, Halo and Forza.

windows is a good operating system, any one who says linux is better and is willing to deal with absolute **** drivers on windows while turning around and blaming windows for an occasional **** driver is a hypocrite.

Saying that linux is more secure when in reality no one really attacks linux users, so its secure by not being a big target.

360 is also a great system, it has it's issues but M$ is through an through a platform develoeper and they made a great platform for people to build games on, smarter design in hardware and good software to back it up.

Also M$ has the only real online platform where all the games use features in the platform vs pc/360 where developers still have to build parts of the online system that M$ already provides for developers.

M$ is getting blamed for DLC when its publishers that are really abusing the system, by making games they can't sustain through normal sales. Publishers and larger dev's really don't know how to use their resources wisely and spend too much money on things that make little difference.

I'm not saying everything is picture perfect but

for me, they have a lot of developers that they aren't putting to good use.

Well, I guess they did a positive thing by giving PC a OS standard (Windows) and a graphics library (DirectX) standard (altho there may be free alternatives).

Not really interested in their consoles tho.

I got a 360 because of Rare's games but we all know how that turned out...

7/10, started well, finishing mediocrely.
