To be honest a lot PC gamers act very hostile toward any thing that isn't a mouse and keyboard or a self built desktop PC as if it's out to replace what they love.

Anyway I think it's nice now that AlienWare released their X51 to attract newcomers to the platform.

I think what Razer needs to realize is that it's not the other "PC Giants" that won't take risks, it's their target audience that refuses to take one.

Mention anything that's not a mouse or keyboard, and the PC elitists immediately shoot it down.

Project Fiona could be the most bad ass piece of tech around, but hardcore PC gamers won't touch it, because they might get their "PC Elitist Cool Guy" card revoked.

I commend Razer for putting their money where their mouth is by taking risks like this. But depending on archaic and stubborn PC gamers to take a chance on a device like this is a recipe for disaster.

no different from console gamers really. the wiiu pad? according to most complete garbage. the wiimote, move and kinect? frankly there just offensive by "gamers" reckoning. dual analogue 360/PS3 controller is absolutely perfect, can not be improved on and should never ever be altered ever again...for some reason. many people hate and resist change. its not just a PC audience problem.

Never really cared for Razer products so far, but I would like to see them, among others, try to make an awesome racing wheel comparable to the offerings of Logitech.

Totally off topic, but this reminds me of something I once heard, In order to reap a big reward you need to take a big risk. No better ever made it big, by playing it safe all the time. And this may sound funny(to some) But sometimes you need to go with your heart , and not your head.

PC gamers do seem to hate new things, especially accessories, but truthfully I think its better then an overabundance of new accessories and plastic skateboards with plastic guitars and plastic DJ turntables.

They are really out of touch lately concerning comments they are making about the PC industry imo. In addition to what he says here, they also talk about how the Razer Blade is the 1st true gaming laptop, but it's only got an Nvidia 555M card in there - despite the $3000 pricetag!

That is me to a T. I couldn't care less to try anything for PC outside of mouse and keyboard or a normal controller. Just not interested. And building your own PC is a blast.

I like the way he thinks, though risks are still risks. Larger giants are subject to the opinions and votes of stock holders, Razer, being privately held does not "suffer" in the same way, so Tan can take those risks at his own leisure. Prototyping may not always yield a mass produced product, but the research and development involved can certainly pave the way for better products in the future that do get the green light.

Products like the Switchblade, Project Fiona, and Blade are all very interesting machines, with innovative features. While the high prices involved may deter mainstream users, enthusiasts and reviewers may find them of being high in quality, and that would further encourage Razer to continue developing certain lines and bringing the prices down in the process.

PC gamers, the self proclaimed masters of technology... also hate innovative technology. No crap Razer.... these guys wouldnt be rocking full tower cases if they had any sense of technology trends.

who woulda thunk these guys still using tower cases 2 feet tall while most people put their computers in their pocket, wouldnt be open to new trends in technology. Nobody could see that one coming.

I'm open to new forms of computing, but we have a valid reason to maintain the dominance of x86 since all of our games run on Windows on x86. x86 means relatively high performance at the cost of decently high power consumption too, but lots of flexibility, general purpose processing might and still plenty of support and availability. I think the Alienware X51 was a nice step in the right direction to bringing down the size and TDP of mainstream desktop PCs. Towers still should exist, but I'm by no means afraid of smaller form factors and laptops being used in ways that used to be reserved for giant towers packing many large, loud fans. I used to have a mATX slim PC that was a pretty decent machine for light gaming and general use that I had built. Eventually though I did end up relocating everything it it to a larger case so I could put a full size video card instead of relying on the low profile Radeon 5570 I had in it. There are not enough medium end low profile graphics options out there.

Well what should they do besides making hardware and software? That's what they sell after all. The only thing that could perhaps be made is a hardware standard for the PC, similar to what consoles have.

Stop using logic. I think people who complain about that stuff worry the industry will go in a direction they don't want it to go.

Companies do have gaming department but they are far from their main focus. Those machines are clearly aimed towards "high end users" but they aren't fooling those gamers. Pre-built high end gaming PC's are basically a joke.

So your saying because I prefer to have a mouse and keyboard as input device, I'm "PC elitist cool guy" ?

I don't get it... I love M&K, if there was something better for the main games I play I would use it. I also love having a big screen and all the eye candy a game can bring. I simply can't get that with this razer project thing... This is more competing the handheld gaming community.

You do realize that the mouse and keyboard are a better combination for FPS and RTS, and just about all MMOs? And we can plug in a gamepad if we want to. Choices!

The problem with taking risks on the PC platform is how far it deviates from the standard, and how much push you'll have to do to bring in a new standard. Like the motion controls for PC, they are generally terrible because every game made also has to support the basics. And thats just it, you almost an instant niche if you change the the way PC behaves because every PC in the world is going to have some sort of base functionality that people expect. I also don't believe the tablets will overtake pc gaming in the core crowd, in order to be successful with any hardware innovations you'll have to make something that fits into the standard or completely enhances it making it a necessity going forward.
