This pleads a very strong case for future 3rd party games on the Wii.

Who says just the mini games will sell?

Certainly took Capcom by surprise... they just revised their earnings forecasts because RE4 Wii edition is doing better than expected

Theonly thing that this proves is that a port of a very good and well selling game will be very good and sell well.

Espcially if there's not that much to play on the console it's been ported to.

Hmmm, it didn't say how well RE4 was doing. That'd be fantastic if it actually became a million-seller, haha.

It also proves that there's a market for violent and mature action games on the Wii.

That's just sad if RE4 Wii edition is selling like that. Shows you what games Sheep have to select from. I remember beating that game a looooooong time ago. Regardless, good for Capcom I suppose.

Resident Evil 4 For Wii Increases Capcom Results News

Japanese publisher confirms an increase in income and revenues over the year; Resident Evil 4 for Wii and Phoenix Wright 4 helps drive figures...

Capcom has today confirmed that its financial fortunes in the first quarter of the 2008 fiscal year were helped by sales of Resident Evil 4 for Wii, and the Japanese release of Phoenix Wright 4 on Nintendo DS.

The Japanese publisher, which revealed a year-on-year increase in net sales of 35.1% to 14.28 billion Yen (£58.9 million), also confirmed that the continued performance of its PSP title, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, also spurred on its figures for the three-month period.

Operating income rose by 57% on the year to 2.08 billion Yen (£8.6 million), with net income topping 1.13 billion Yen (£4.7 million), up 39.7%.

As a result of today's release, Capcom has revised its expectations for the first six months of the fiscal year, ending September 30th. Net sales are now forecast to reach 30.35 billion Yen (£125.1 million), with operating income of 2.40 billion Yen (£9.9 million), and net income at 1.35 billion Yen (£5.6 million).

Exactly. Hopefully this will show 3rd parties they can make money this way and, if they insist upon doing so, how to properly do a Wiimake of a game.

Capcom internally predicted sales this fiscal year to be at around 420k units shipped. Given this I'd say it's safe to estimate it's well over 500k units shipped.

All this negativity from a bunch of hypocrites...

Had they game been selling like crap, the forums would be littered with 'See - 3rd parties make no money on Wii!!!'
But, since the game is selling pretty good, we are forced to revert to the 'Well, there really isn't anything else worth playing'

How very sad... :(

Dont worry. The Wii is going to be destroying the 360 and PS3 all gen long and its only going to get worse for anybody who's anti-Wii. Just sit back and enjoy the show ;)

I'm loving RE4 on the Wii, as I just got a copy of it in the mail yesterday. Being that i haven't played an RE game since I had a PS1, I see that the game is much more action oriented than adventure oriented, which is fine with me.

If they put money into it, and I'm assuming you mean a ground-up RE title instead of a port, then I would imagine it would've already crossed the million-sold threshold.

This is good news!

Well I wouldnt say that. Even after 2 years RE4 is still a very good game compared to new releases, not many last gen games can stand up like that. I think this will help the Wii get more, new, core games, because this along with this coming fall/winter line up is proving core games can sell on the Wii not just mini games and half assed shovel ware.

As well in terms of gameplay I thought RE4 was a good example of how to have a Wii game control, I really hope that design is used for some more game, hopefully Disaster will use it.

Considering it breached the top 10 in June NPD while only being on the market for 10 days of that month, ourselling new IP's like The Darkness is pretty damn impressive for a 2 year old port.

Forget that, wouldnt be good. Id rather get that REmake style RE4 that got dropped on the Wii or a different, exclusive, RE4 style game designed for the Wii, not RE5 downgraded for the Wii.

I think fanboys who still believe that 3rd parties are not going to be all over the Wii are deluded. It's all about the $, and the Wii is looking to be the best option for 3rd parties in that regard.

No one's denying the amount of 3rd party the Wii will have.
I'm just questionning the quality of it. And no a port of an awesome last gen game doesn't count if you ask me.

And if 3rd parties are all about the $$, wouldn't it make more sense for them to not put in the effort and the bigger budgets that make games turn into quality titles? Seeing as how the Wii is so much about casuals and non-gamers who have a greater chance of buying anything rather than a good game than the less casual, more educated gamers of the PC/PS3/360. Generalization of course, but still valid.

There's a pretty good formula for this.

Budget title + Former Game of the Year + Wii + New control scheme + Large core base = Lots of money for the company. Easy right? (I'm expecting people to change/comment on this formula to make me look stupid)

The argument that quality 3rd party games wont come to the Wii is absurd. All marketable games on the Wii have proven to sell well regardless of their genre. The only reaosn 3rd party Wii titles are lacking right now is because 3rd parties never had faith in its sales potential before its launch, and we are now seeing the result of that initial lack of faith. Things change... and in the Wiis case it will be for the better. Much better.

 Touchy ferocity and a sense of insecurity is strong with this one.

I don't understand? Why are people SURPRISED!?? RE4 isn't even a new game, if it SOLD 1.7 million for GC then it will sell well for Wii given the "fanbase" for the game. Jesus christ stop having an orgasm about RE4 wii's sales. When an original M rated games sells well on Wii then come give me a shout.

Capcom was sure surprised. That's why they had to revise their earnings forecast ;)

And I thought coming in here, you would say something stupid like Resident Evil 5 is going to the Wii again, silly me.
